Greetings!

Kalga (title) needs a footnote

edit

You wrote "The kalga appointed a successor to the Crimean khan or a trustee of the khan's family." I have done a number of khan articles and have not found this in Howorth or anywhere else. Thanks,Benjamin Trovato (talk) 05:07, 31 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the comment, Benjamin. My reference for that is the Ukrainian language version of the page, which can't be used as a source here. Note that that page does not specifically list a reference for that claim. I recall having seen the same comment in the wikipedia page for some other language as well, though I can't remember what other language and I might simply be mistaken. I'm not sure the best resolution at this point: should I remove the comment until a specific reference can be found, or leave it with the citation-needed note? I get the same thing when I paste the Ukrainian article into Google translate. Google sometimes reverses subject and object and 'kalgoyu' looks like an accusative or genitive. Maybe the Ukrainian says "the kalga was appointed as..' or something else. A Ukrainian dictionary would probably say what cases the verb controls. ???? You are right, the -ою in калґою is dative, genitive, or accusative, and very occasionally nominative for masculine nouns. I took it as nominative, partly based on the faulty translation from google translate. And the -ся in призначався (appoint,assign,...) is reflexive, which I guess makes this passive. Choosing dative instead of nominative, my manual literal translation is, "To the Kalga was appointed successor of the Crimean Khan or a trusted member of the Khan's family." I have updated it with a somewhat better paraphrase than that. But I left in the citation needed mark. Radzy0 (talk) 19:41, 21 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

February 2023

edit

Hello, I'm Sumanuil. I noticed that you recently made an edit to Sack of Baturyn in which your edit summary did not appear to describe the change you made. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 01:38, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Argh! I'm not sure what happened, but I was trying to make a one-line change. I don't know how the change that actually got included happened. Thank you very much for correcting my mistake, and my most sincere apologies that I wasn't careful enough to avoid this problem. Radzy0 (talk) 20:17, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Help me, DYK review question

edit

Please help me with...
Good folks: I did a DYK review, my first, of a nomination. The nomination included three images, one of which has been nominated for deletion, and that nomination has not progressed to a conclusion. Other than that picture being contested, the nomination looks good. What is the normal procedure to approve it subject to not using that image? Do I remove it from the nomination, or wait for the nominator to remove it, or just leave it there and indicate that the approval is contingent on not using that one? Any comments would be welcome. Radzy0 (talk) 21:00, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey there! Not a DYKer, by any means, but I would remove it from the nom and ping the nominator with your reasoning (it's not freely licensed and thus not eligible to appear on the MP). Hope this helped! Cheers! Fakescientist8000 01:22, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
