Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Bishnupriya Manipuri, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. You have removed large chunks of longstanding sourced content and sources and replaced them with unsourced text. Do not do that. Discuss your points in Talk:Bishnupriya Manipuri and seek WP:CONSENSUS per WP:BRD. You should not force your unilateral changes if you really want to brinf your points across. Thanks. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:52, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your message.
I disagree with the characterization that the edits were unsourced. The revisions were based on published academic works, linguistic studies, court records, government publications and other reliable references that were added or intended to replace material that appeared inadequately sourced, duplicated, outdated, or written in a non-neutral manner.
The purpose of the edits was not to remove sourced content without justification, but to improve compliance with Wikipedia’s policies on verifiability, neutrality and due weight. Several sections were reorganized to reduce duplication, properly attribute scholarly viewpoints, and distinguish between community traditions and academic scholarship.
I understand the importance of consensus and the BRD process. Rather than engaging in further reverts, I will outline the specific proposed changes and supporting sources on the article’s talk page so that they can be discussed individually.
I would also appreciate clarification regarding the basis for the revert. Several of the removed revisions were supported by academic publications, legal records and government sources. Before reverting substantial portions of sourced content, were the newly added sources reviewed individually? If there are concerns regarding the reliability, interpretation or weight of particular sources, please identify the specific passages so they can be evaluated on their merits and discussed with reference to the relevant policies and sources.
My concern is that a number of longstanding statements currently retained in the article may not fully reflect the range of available academic and legal sources. I believe these issues are best addressed through source-based discussion rather than by restoring earlier wording without examining the newer references that were introduced.
Thank you. Rajen09 (talk) 15:31, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I would appreciate it if concerns regarding sources or content were first raised on the talk page before reverting substantial sourced changes. I am happy to discuss any disputed material and work toward consensus. If there are specific concerns about particular sources or passages, please identify them so they can be reviewed and addressed collaboratively. Rajen09 (talk) 15:39, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Stop icon You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war, according to the reverts you've made to Bishnupriya Manipuri. This means that you are repeatedly reverting content back to how you think it should be, despite knowing that other editors disagree. Once it is known that there is a disagreement, users are expected to collaborate with others, avoid editing disruptively, and try to reach a consensus – rather than repeatedly reverting the changes made by other users.

Important points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive behavior – regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not engage in edit warring – even if you believe that you are right.

You need to discuss the disagreement on the article's talk page and work towards a revision that represents consensus among everyone involved. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution if discussions reach an impasse. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to engage in edit warring, you may be blocked from editing. As I said, do not make major changes to longstanding version of the article unilaterally without WP: CONSENSUS and also follow WP:BRD, which you didn't, instead resorted to edit warring. Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:20, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your message.
I have stopped reverting and will continue discussion through the article’s talk page. However, I do not agree that all of the disputed edits were unsourced or unsupported.
Many of the revisions were based on reliable sources, including academic publications, linguistic studies, government publications and legal records. My intention was to improve compliance with WP:V, WP:NPOV and WP:RS by reducing duplication, improving attribution and incorporating additional scholarly sources.
I also note that the revert restored a longstanding version without addressing the individual sources that were introduced. If there are concerns regarding specific passages, sources or interpretations, I would appreciate if those concerns could be identified individually so they can be discussed on their merits.
I am happy to seek WP:CONSENSUS and discuss the proposed changes section by section on the talk page. My preference is to resolve the matter through source-based discussion rather than through further reverting.
Thank you. Rajen09 (talk) 16:27, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
We will discuss teh changes individually in the talk page first. Also some of the sections you added in your version are relevant for the community not the language. ALso, I'd ping editors who worked on this article majorly, and I'd suggest you continue in the talk page. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:33, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I agree that the discussion should proceed section by section on the talk page, and I appreciate your willingness to involve other editors who have worked on the article.
I would like to begin with the lead section.
Section 1: Use of the term “Bishnupriya Meitei”
The current lead states that Bishnupriya Manipuri is “also known as Bishnupriya Meitei”.
I reviewed one of the cited sources (Ajiliu Niumai, 2021), which uses the expression “Bishnupriya Meiteis” when referring to the community:
“The Bishnupriya Meiteis from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Tripura and Assam use the Bengali script and speak their own language…”
This source appears to use “Bishnupriya Meiteis” as an ethnonym for the people rather than as an alternative name for the language itself.
Could editors provide additional academic or official sources that explicitly use “Bishnupriya Meitei” as an alternative name for the language? If the term is primarily used for the community rather than the language, the wording in the lead may require further discussion. Rajen09 (talk) 17:14, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Information icon Hello, I'm Sigma440. An edit that you recently made seemed to be generated using a large language model (an "AI chatbot" or other application using such technology). Text produced by these applications is not allowed on Wikipedia, and may contain factually inaccurate statements, fictitious citations, or other problems. You should instead read reliable sources and then summarize those in your own words. Your edit may have been reverted. If you want to practice editing, please use your sandbox. If you think a mistake was made, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or ask your questions at the Teahouse, a friendly place for new users. Thanks. Hi,
The content was based on published sources and was intended as a summary of those sources. I understand the concerns regarding AI-generated text and will ensure that future edits are based directly on cited sources, with wording reviewed and revised manually before being added to articles. Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Cachar College when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. Hello,
I was attempting to update the infobox and lead section to reflect Parimal Suklabaidya’s current position as a Member of Parliament and may have inadvertently introduced unsupported parameters. I will be more careful.
Thank you for restoring the article and correcting the syntax. Rajen09 (talk) 16:57, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
You also removed all sources from the page which is completely unacceptable. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:58, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I understand the concern regarding the removal of sources. I was in the middle of updating the article and intended to restore and improve the references as part of the edit.
Will take greater care of it. Rajen09 (talk) 17:05, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Bishnupriya Manipuri

[edit]

Dear Rajen09,

Could you kindly help translate this text into the brilliant Bishnupriya Manipuri language:

ঈশ্বর মানুষকে এত ভালবাসলেন যে, তাঁর একমাত্র পুত্রকে তিনি দান করলেন, যেন যে কেউ সেই পুত্রের উপরে বিশ্বাস করে সে বিনষ্ট না হয় কিন্তু অনন্ত জীবন পায়।

Your help would be gratefully appreciated, Thank you.
