About the IEC binary prefixes (your edit to 64-bit computing
editHi. I wanted to explain, more than I could in an edit summary, my revert of your edit to 64-bit computing. I personally agree with you that the IEC binary prefixes should be adopted. However, their use on WP was the subject of a series of edit wars followed by long and sometimes heated discussion. The conclusion was that WP must follow its sources, and the vast majority of our sources in the computing field do not use the IEC prefixes. The rule is spelled out, with exceptions where their use is permitted, at WP:COMPUNITS. If you feel this decision should be revisited, the way to do it is to open a discussion at the talk page under WP:COMPUNITS. Thank you for your understanding. Jeh (talk) 19:10, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
- I already read it, and figured that was the case before you explained. With my dictionary's size I don't know what to compare that to, but it's stupid really, especially since we're talking about massive number like petabyte, where any change on any number on either side of the decimal means worlds. I also figured I'll leave the subject alone cuz I'm not a master who could talk sense into a subject I'm starting to question my knowledge on myself. ----rautamiekka (talk) 19:20, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Yes, the space in "call gate" is in all of the article's best sources, so it should be used on WP.
Hyphenating compound adjectives (e.g. "16-bit") is required only when necessary to avoid ambiguity. For example, in "16 bit computing", could it be interpreted as 16 of "bit computing"? No, because "computing" is a mass noun, not countable, and "bit computing" makes no sense anyway, so the only reasonable interpretation is "16-bit". So the hyphen isn't required. No harm done, though.
Re the extra spaces - they do not affect the page rendering. It is not necessary to edit to remove extra spaces and similar things that don't affect the page rendering; doing so adds to the server's load and to editors' workload (as we check up on others' edits). Thank you. Jeh (talk) 19:16, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
- It's called perfecting, and it does create less confusion if a thing is correctly written everytime; I can understand the spaces, though. I would worry less about edits like these and worry much more about edits some ppl make which destroy an article in essense, that you can find by checking my list of edits. ----rautamiekka (talk) 19:23, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for March 26
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Resource leak, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Pipe. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Disambiguation link notification for May 1
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Advanced Vector Extensions, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page POCL (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
