Q1werty
editQ1werty was improperly blocked due to the fact that four administrators blocked this user infinitely four times. This is a minor notification that his block has been appropriately fixed. If it hasn't, then there's a bug in the MediaWiki system and should be reported. When I checked the logs on this person, I found that there were four infinite blocks on this user:
- 23:11, 10 October 2005 Rdsmith4 blocked "User:Q1werty" with an expiry time of indefinite (Vandal)
- 23:24, 10 October 2005 Redwolf24 blocked "User:Q1werty" with an expiry time of indefinite (Vandalisms!)
- 23:42, 10 October 2005 Katefan0 blocked "User:Q1werty" with an expiry time of indefinite (Page move vandal)
- 09:48, 11 October 2005 The Anome blocked "User:Q1werty" with an expiry time of indefinite (vandalism-only user)
One thing I noticed is that there was no notice on this particular user's talk page stating the user was infinitely blocked. Anyway, just letting you know what happened. --AllyUnion (talk) 09:17, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

Adoptfirefox.jpg
editI see you chose to delete Image:Adoptfirefox.jpg marking it as nonsense. Care to explain why you considered it so? The image linked to 8 people's pages, including me, had versions in a few other languages and was anything but nonsensical. I'm puzzled. Dunemaire 13:07, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
I thought you did it because of this:[1]. It's the only place where it shows an actual name of an user deleting something . The image doesn't show up. I understand you didn't do it, however I have no further ideas of where to look for it (or for the deleter of the image). Oh well, it wasn't that important. Dunemaire 08:46, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

Response to Friend/Fiend
editI used Fiend due to its simalrity to friend not as is arch enemy meaning, as a play on words. I keep a list so I know who everyone is? I will change it to other users but keep it for the same uses. I added her after she vandalized (from my view) my talk page, I am not sure about the prohibited, I have seen worse attacks see Alleged causes of Hurricane Katrina but wll change it.
You did not reply to my reponse on the talk page. I'm not sure if that means that you're satisfied with my reasoning or if you moved on to something else or if you still have not gotten around to replying. I'm looking forward to a reply on the talk page so that we can arrive at a soultion on that page that satisfies both of us. Regards, 172 | Talk 03:40, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

You sent me a message warning me not to vandalise wikipedia - I'm on a public computer and I haven't even edited one page today, so I guess someone else using this computer earlier was vandalising it.

Thanks for blocking Lysdexia, she was being a very annoying troll. I was wondering, however, why the indefinite block? It seemed to me a bit excessive, but I maybe don't know the whole story. --best, kevin ···Kzollman | Talk··· 15:30, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- No doubt about her causing trouble. After I left this note I read up on the RFC. What a strange person, she must lead a very unhappy life. I'm sorry for pestering you about it, I'm a young admin and I'm trying to get my feet wet regarding the blocking policy. My admin nomination
editI agree wholeheartedly that edit warring is wrong and I was wrong to do so. I do live in Omaha, NE, U.S. and all three of the IP's you listed are from the U.K. I have to defend against a false sockpuppetry allegation and did so on the nomination page. I do not nor have I ever used sockpuppets, meatpuppets are solicited for votes for myself. In fact, I did not solicit for the admin spot and have been fending off nomination attempts for almost a month.--MONGO 04:21, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
Dan, I am most assuredly not asking you to change your vote. I was merely ensuring you knew that I do not use any sockpuppet accounts...I only responded to your oppose vote because of that comment and I know you made it only due to a similarity of edits...I truly have no idea who that person is from the U.K. I realize you made your comment in good faith. That darn encyclopedic merit mess brought out the worst in a lot of people...and looking back, I really don't know why as, I mentioned another page already has the issues I wanted addressed, but I wasn't aware of it then. I live in La Vista, NE...but I was born and raised in Missoula, Montana. Nothing wrong with Nebraska but I miss the Rockies!--MONGO 05:26, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
Monegasque people

reverting edits
editHi
I am just wondering why you reverted my addition of "northomaha.com". I am new to Wikipedia but I thought that my addition was valid. Can you please enlighten me if there is something I do not understand?
Thanks
This list has been nominated for AfD by User:172.
I noted your comments on the talk page a while back, and thought you may like a summary.
- Some would like to delete the list because it is "POV since dictator is undefinable"
- Others argue that the page violates WP:NOR since agreeing consensually to follow a universal dictionary definition is original research. 'Nuff said.
- Some have argued that it should be deleted because it is POV to call anyone a dictator. Which is actually a required argument for deleting this list when you think about it. Otherwise why not just pare it down to a common denominator?
- Pushed into a logical corner some have argued that since POV could be added, the list should be deleted. Which would apply to every article in wiki.
Dictator is not a hard word to define - nor is it in any way controversial amongst dictionaries, encyclopedias, historians, the media or the public or on wiki, where it is used 27,700 times. So clear is the meaning that dictators and their supporters often concede the "dictator" part and merely add "benevolent".
It is long established that POV in an article is in any case no grounds for deletion - merely for its improvement.
People also seem unclear that NPOV is achieved through consensus not some theoretical construct that exists or not.
If there are such things as "dictators" they the list must stay, at least in some form. If it is deleted this implication is that describing anyone as a dictator is always POV. This of course would not only be egregious POV, but is relativism beyond any reasonable point, defies a universal understanding of a word amongst historians and the public - even David Irving.
The spectre of wikipedia refusing to list Hitler+Mussolini et al as dictators hangs over us. Please consider this matter.
Yours,
RfA
editHello there!
I noticed that you removed my RfA from the list. Yet, no decision was stated anywhere, neither at the RfA nor at my talk page. Is the RfA closed now? Am I an admin? Or no? Halibutt 03:19, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

My RfB
editHi Dan, I thought since I have a little spare time, I would reply to your comment on my RfB. Mainly I've avoided janitorial duties in the past months because of my limited internet access (as I explained), and I of course place a higher priority on improving and writing articles than janitorial duties. However, because I now have internet access at home, I have a lot more spare time to help out on Wikipedia, as evinced by my closing of AfD debates over the past few days. (Most of them were controversial because I focused on the backlog; all the easy ones had been taken by other admins already.) I already helped clear out some the "easy" debates today on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2005 November 25, and now I'm itching to find some other thing to do because I have *a lot* of free time on my hands (I have at least three or four more hours left with nothing to do before going to bed). Going through the RFA talk archives, I noticed that Uninvited Company (another bureaucrat) said it takes about half an hour to close one RFA debate. Usually I spend two or three hours a day closing AFD debates, which works out to four to six RFAs a day, without impacting my contributions to the article space at all. Maybe the need for new 'crats isn't that bad, but I'm sure you would appreciate the half an hour or two of your time freed up with a few extra ones helping out. Just some thoughts, and best regards. Johnleemk | Talk 12:36, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

I emailed back, saying I wouldn't unblock her outright, but I would ask you for more information/get your input. I haven't looked through all her contribs, just the last few dozen — I would say your block is justified, but I may be wrong. Just thought you might like to be aware of the situation. Luigi nom
editI disagree with your closing of the nom. It was quite borderline and it would be easy to close it as unsuccessful, too. It should be left open for a few more days to get a firm conclusion. Everyking 00:21, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm also concerned with the closing of this nominatiom. With only 72% support, this is the lowest support I've seen for a successful RfA. I think there were some very legitimate questions raised about his judgement, including the nomination of several schools on the mistaken belief that it was policy to delete middle schools. I'm not asking for you to reconsider the promotion, but I would have liked there to have been some discussion amongst bureaucrats about the closing. Thanks for listening. Carbonite | Talk 02:09, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Luigi vs. JAranda
editHi,
Not to bicker too much, but I see one 71% closed as unsuccessful, and another as successful, by the same bureaucrat, on the same day. I supported both, but I feel some discomfort at what appears to me, at first blush, to be an incongruity. I know you might have reason for your decision, so I'll ask what they are, please. Thanks, Xoloz 02:47, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Harro5
editI see on Harro5's page [4] that you recently gave him/her administrator status. Yesterday s/he deleted my first submission without notice. True, it was for testing purposes, but at the time I didn't know there was a test page. I was simply following the general direction to go ahead and post. There is a guideline for administrators that reads, "Do not bite the newcomer." From the looks of some other people's experiences with Harro5, s/he is abusing administrator privilege. You would do well to revoke this privilege, and I'm sure a number of folks would thank you for it.
This was my first experience trying to work with Wikipedia and also my last.
Perhaps you can tell me how to delete my account. I can't figure that out.
Thank you.

Prince and Betty
editHi, thanks for fixing my gaff on the P.G. Wodehouse page, have been rummaging more but still not really sure what's going on with this madness, if you get it would appreciate you giving a quick glance over Psmith, Journalist and The Prince and Betty to see if I've made any sense...
As far as I can tell from what you said (and the goggle), the P, J text was serialised in the UK, then as a book in the US called the P and B, and at the same time another completely different book called the P and B came out in the UK - is that right? The "1912 US Version" of the P and B that's on Gutenberg is very different from P, J, but has big chunks the same and Rupert Smith in - is that the US release of P, J then? Is the UK P and B more different still?
Sorry if I've infected you with my confusion... JohnnyZen 17:51, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Mornington Crescent
editWhat you wrote gives the game away right at the beginning of the article:
The game's secretive, complex-sounding rules and dramatic manner of play are thought by some who are unfamiliar with the game's rules as being a parody of strategy games and the deep analysis in which their players engage.
It's a bit heavy-handed too and ungrammatical ("thought...as being..."?). Hopfrog 19:31, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
It is not spurious reasoning, and is the increasingly distrusted Wikipedia "in the business" of jumping all over jokes in hob-nailed boots right at the beginning of an article? Hopfrog 19:50, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
When I said it was copyright, I was trying to enter into the spirit of ISIHAC with a joke. I should have known better.
...the most important revelation (that the rules are entirely fictional) does not occur until much further down the page, and is preceded by a spoiler notice.
What you say is a bit of heavy-handed "hint-hint, nudge-nudge" that will give the game away for many people. The article is a good example of Wikikrap anyway, so why make it worse? Hopfrog 20:04, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
What's wrong with using the "cross on octagon" for block messages?
editIn this context, I construe the 'stop hand' to mean an order for a user to stop whatever nonsense (s)he is doing, while the 'cross on octagon' means the community has taken its own action to stop that user.
-- Denelson83 08:45, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
When the various warnings began to be used, I tried out two variations: messages on their own and messages with a visual component. In a number of cases, people who had received a number of image-free warnings of rising seriousness as they committed vandalism insisted when they came back after a block that they had not noticed the warnings. (I found that myself. Recently someone was leaving messages on my talk page. Because their messages were being succeeded by others before I had a chance to read them I regularly missed them. They then got annoyed as to why I was not replying. Quite simply they were lost in the text.)
However when I used warnings with images, a couple of things happened:
- Vandalism often stopped without the need to go a grade higher in warnings, or
- the vandal came back to ask "what are you talking about?" (ie., they noticed the message)
- No-one blocked (and I mean no-one) then turned around and said "but I never saw the message".
I have dealt with a lot of vandalism and frankly I've found that using warnings with images far more effective than using image-less ones. In fact I've given up completely using imageless ones because I have found them so useless. It is vital IMHO that important messages such as warnings look different from ordinary text on a screen. A distinct image, and for serious messages a box, make far more impact than a few lines of undefined, indestinguishable text. FearÉIREANN \(caint) 23:32, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
spinning wheels
editG'day Dan,
I see you've deleted {{Help Wikiboxes}}, and thereby done your little part in keeping a wheel war going. Congratulations. Don't do it again. Wheel warring — even deliberately taking on a tiny rôle in same — is disruptive, and lowers the level of trust the community has in its administrators. You are a bureaucrat, and command a lot more respect amongst the community than most administrators, including Yours Truly, could ever hope to achieve. You should know better than this. Cheers, fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 18:05, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

if you still edit it please tell me specific things you take issue to and/or don't delete the whole thing but just delete empty boasting/non neutral unfactual claims

"std fmt" edits
editThese edits are just to create a formatting style consistent with the style used in the majority of "featured articles", and to stay conformant with the Wikipedia style guides. Sometimes there are several ways described in the style guides. I'm trying to get a list of the guide's text that concern internal formatting together so I can better answer this question with something better than "personal preference". The best I can do today, is to say compare the style I'm editing towards with the style used in the featured articles. I have noticed that with only one exception so far (that being Hubble Space Telescope ) that my edits towards internal style are left intact. The reason I prefer *[http://www.somewebsite.com/ the website] over * [http://www.somewebsite.com/ the website] is that this prevents the situation where the editor displays the "*" alone on a line when the URL text is long. If I edit other bulleted lists to that style it is just because that seems the existing style in the article when I get there for most of the other bulleted lists. - Bevo 15:50, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

editDan, why did you promote this user with less than 73% support? Several other editors asked why you did this. Have you responded to any of them? -- Cecropia 20:33, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I think you may have been relying on erroneous information that 70%-80% posted by one bureaucrat on the Bcrat page, but that is wrong. The gray area is AT LEAST 75% unless there is extreme behavior, like proven soxs, or bogus voters. Opposing for too few edits does not fall in that category. If you discount "too few edits" then consider a sampling of the Support votes: "seems good to me," "damn the editcountitis," "no reason not to," "That's hot," "t's no big deal, right," "We need admins," "Extreme heterosexual man support. -- Cecropia 20:42, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Commons Espanol
editDan,
I'm noticing a lot of Spanish language uploads to Commons, and while I'd like to offer extended welcome to newcomers, my Spanish is only at a level es-2, and I've not found a template yet at Commons comperable to the welcome template. Titling/redirecting advice - PGW
editHi, I've been ploughing through some of the un-started P.G. Wodehouse books (which I see you've kicked off a lot of yourself, well done); have got up to Money For Nothing, which currently redirects to Money for Nothing, the Dire Straits album; now, knowing you're a bit more experienced than me, I was wondering if you could advise - would it be best to a) hijack Money For Nothing, providing a link to Money for Nothing, or b) start up a Money For Nothing (novel) page, and do a redirection page (in which case, should it be at For or for, and should the for be renamed to MfN (album)?) (never tried any of this but sure I could figure it out), or c) do something else I've not thought of? Any tips be much appreciated, cheers, JohnnyZen 15:25, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Limbaugh.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Limbaugh.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Carnildo or ask for help at Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. Thank you.

Abreu Camp / Philmont
editI want to warn you that Philmanac is not always accurate in its history, and erroneously claims many things. I have corrected some of the errors in Abreu Camp. They were pretty minor, and had to do with the history. It's unfortunate that there is not a better guide. Maybe PSA should start a PhilWiki.
Donbas 08:13, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, there are other books on Philmont. Furthermore, I worked at Abreu, and the history is written all over the walls. There are materials in the staff box that document the family history, the building of the cabins, and other miscellaneous things. The cantina construction is firsthand knowledge, from a Tansatlantic Council Advisor who helped build the cantina and took pictures of it. Those are now at the camp. There are records for each camp too, in Base. Philmanac is not primary source, although the pictures are original research and cannot be cited.
Seeking guidance
editI am seeking your guidance and advice on a particular issue. Mahuri page on wikipedia was initiated by me, and I have contributed to the page from time to time. As per policy of the wikipedia anyone can use the contents of wikipedia, but I understand that use of such contents should indicate the source, that is, the wikipedia. The contents of the page Mahuri have been used in the site mahurivaisya without giving any reference to wikipedia - though I am glad that they have used our contents. In this case, a problem may arise at a future date if that website takes a stand that the contents of page Mahuri on wikipedia have been copied from that site and thus violates copyrights. In an alternative scenario, a user here may tag our Mahuri page with copyright violation under the impression that our contents have been copied from that site, reference to which was given by me long back as an external link when that site was not active and having only a welcome page. Although I am not aware of any such issue, which wikipedians may have encountered in the past, I believe that such a situation may have arisen earlier too. I seek your advice and guidance to deal with this issue, which you are requested to kindly post on my talk page please. I also utilize this opportunity to say Hello to you. Thanks. --Bhadani 13:50, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Bias in the James Taranto page
editActually the bias is on your part. James is often cited for his disingenuous and calculated comments. I posted one such misleading statement (the source being http://www.opinionjournal.com/best/?id=110003842) so my edit was and is a factual statement. I loathe organizations such as moveon.org and will engage any left leaning liberal in an honest debate, but I do not appreciate or need lies from Mr. Taranto and his ilk which provide no constructive purpose in the political discourse.
Another recent example, Joel Stein said, "I'm not advocating that we spit on returning veterans like they did after the Vietnam War, but we shouldn't be celebrating people for doing something we don't think was a good idea. All I'm asking is that we give our returning soldiers what they need: hospitals, pensions, mental health and a safe, immediate return. But, please, no parades."
And James, utilizing the above quote then writes, "Now that Stein has broken the taboo against showing contempt for servicemen." Obviously Mr. Taranto is caught in another lie. The truth is Joel specifically says he does not advocate showing contempt.
Rude comment?
editThis was a vote, and I do not appreciate having it removed. -62.189.34.9 16:53, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
PhilWiki
editWould it be possible to host a Philwiki somewhere? It seems like it could be a very effective, dynamic guide for staffers and potential hikers. So many websites that are incomplete, or opinionated, while forums are nightmares. Likewise, Philmanac has errors and has to be reprinted with each update. Meanwhile, so much information about Philmont is inappropriate for Wikipedia.
Alternatively, We could start one on WikiCities. Getting editors for the project should not be hard, with so many fan groups in existence. Getting the basic material is not too hard - there are sources available, while Philmont's records are also usable. Beside this the administrative elements of PhilWiki could all be taken from Wikipedia, to limit the amount of work needed to complete this.
We could invite all the administrators of Philmont, as well as contacting the people at PSA and other people like living descendants of the Abreus, etc. Donbas 17:32, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- A Philmont wiki has been established at Wikicities. It can be found at philmont.wikicities.com. Your contributions would be appreciated. Hope to see you there! --L1AM (talk - 'tribs.) 09:58, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Strange message
editHi, I have just recieved a mesage with the second world war Nazi flag on it, Apparently i have edited pages of Wikipedia?
I was looking at the stormfront page yesterday but i have made NO corrections and i have Not edited any of the pages.
The only time i have editted a page was on the Collossus code breakers when i added an "E" to "Eastcote" as it is my home town and it was spelt incorrectly!
And that correction was months ago and before Christmas.
Matt.
- That is an old message, of a user which you can see his "corrections" (vandalism) in his Contributions. I fixed the flag lately, so you saw a message noticing you have new messages. However, this message should be deleted, for it is now old. – rotemliss – Talk 16:45, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Medved/Lapin
editI reverted your erasure of my edit. I hope we can reach some consensus. I think it's somewhat relevant that Medved, a conservative pundit, points to a rabbi caught up in the Abramoff scandal as a religious mentor. I'm not that convinced Lapin needs to mentioned in the article at all. But if he does, something of the Abramoff connection bears mentioning. Feel free to tack a whack at revising it, though. Thanks. Image Tagging Image:Opera-Bastille-2.jpg
editThis media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Opera-Bastille-2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Self Reference
editHi, I saw you removed the {{In Wikipedia}} self-reference tag from the Esperanza disambiguation article. As stated in the Avoid Self References article, this template might be used for any article, (especially disambiguation pages), since it can be then easly removed (by blanking the template) if a hardcopy version is to be done. I see no drawback in having a reference to the Esperanza Wikiproject (of which I am NOT a member) within this disambiguation page, so I will be restoring it. Philmont
editOkay, so you've reverted my changes. I personally felt the changes were a benefit to the article. "A lot of information" was not removed, however some un-encylopedic information was. Here is why I did what I did to the article: The "trail" almost every single peice of information that applies to the trail camps equally applies to the staffed camps. Having the information under the trail camp subsection alone is highly improper. This is why I moved it right under the camp heading, because it applies to both. Information that I removed such as the "Nalgene Tree" while a nice little tidbit about the camp, is still highly POV and non-encylopedic, the same thing goes exactly for the "radio transmission entertainment" (such as broacasting results of the Tour de France, while it may have occured it still is non-notable) or that Cimmaron may or may not actually take part in listening to or making fun of it. Not to mention saying that the swap box is full of green beans and dehydrated apples, it isn't notable, saying there is a swap box alone is enough. Radagast83 00:08, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Dan, hopefully everything is going well during your break. When you come back, mind having a look at Image:Einstein Memorial.jpg? It was uploaded by you quite a while ago, and you deleted it when it was moved to commons. However, it was deleted there for lack of source information. If you still have the original image, mind uploading it back? Thanks. Titoxd(?!?) 01:36, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Happy Birthday!

No offense
editI don't vandalize things for fun, I do it for justification. I see how the profile of George W. Bush get vandalized every day and yet how many of the people who vandalize his site are still members? Meanwhile, the profiles of John Kerry, Howard Dean, Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, go untouched! I think instead of allowing direct changes, Wikipedia should adopt a system of suggestions in which users can suggest alterations and, if they meet approval, can be put in place by site managers. This is a better system that allows people such as myself to feel more justification when someone who wishes to bad-mouth someone, they can't. Sorry for vandalizing the site, but I feel it justified in my own skewed system of judgement.
Please help me!
editYou put a comment on 999 talk page re User talk:Shravak which I saw before he erased it. Well, he accusses me of being User talk:Shravak and put a sockpuppet tag on my page because I made one edit that he did not like on the article they are warring over. He is intimidating me and trying to frighten me from editing on that page again. Can you tell me where I can go for help? Dattat 20:16, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks!
editI was getting a little scared so thanks for responding and being reassuring. It was getting wierd when he removed comments from his talk page and then I wonder what reality is because I can't keep track! Dattat 21:20, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Why not discuss these comments on my talk page with Dattat? I had removed them, but have now restored them to give some context:
Thanks, 999 (Talk) 21:25, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- Dan, I followed the sockpuppet process exactly, last night. Then User:El C deleted the evidence page without removing the tag! See here. I have taken up a discussion with User:El C about this here. I never intended to do anything but follow the process, but once the evidence was deleted, Dattat and other users began asking why I had tagged him. So I recreated the evidence page that should never have been deleted to leave Dattat wondering what I meant and asking about it. What a f'ing waste of time and all becuase one admin can't follow process and leave the report up as I created it. -999 (Talk) 21:33, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
But what about the deletion of the evidence page. Don't you see that if that page had not been deleted, or if the tag on the user page had been deleted along with it, all this would not have happened. I came in this morning to several people asking why I had tagged him, accusing me of malicious tagging, of not following process, etc. etc. when I had tried to do what I had been previously told by an admin was the right thing to do if I suspected a sockpuppet. -999 (Talk) 21:55, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
GBYork
editNow this I'm curious about. I've had a funny feeling about GBYork and some other accounts starting with 3 initials such as ABSmyth, and NLOleson. All three of them have been on a tagging spree focused on pagan writers, and they started doing this just after Mattisse had gone on a spree doing the same thing, but stopped. Are these users all the same? I've suspected it in the back of my mind but have not seen any slip ups which could be used as evidence. -999 (Talk) 22:09, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- Personally, I don't suspect GBYork and Mattisse to be the same person at all judging from the way they've conducted conversations via my and their talk pages. For example, Mattisse was very upset at the Wikilawyering leveled at her by User:999 and nearly left the project entirely, while GBYork seems very wary of admins in general. If it's all an act, though very unlikely, it's a very elaborate one! 999 is basing his accusations of sockpuppetry mainly on the coincidence that they've both participated in the same AFDs that arose from the User:Rosencomet incident. User:Geogre and myself were less than impressed with this conduct on one AFD. After that incident, I've been keeping an eye out for any further incivility on 999's part and would be quite skeptical of any sockpuppetry claims -- Netsnipe ► 22:30, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- Someone pointed me to this page from an e-mail (I can't recall the wiki-name, sorry) I sent when I saw the Mattisse sockpuppet notice. I followed a link from his e-mail to Mattisse's talk page, and noticed that (I think anyway) Mattisse has blanked out both the talk and user pages. I don't know the proper ediquite here, but you might need to re-post those notices, if a revert is a no-go. Maury 19:48, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Bowser
editHi, could I just ask how the Nintendo guys got you to delete bowser to make way for their preferred article at that location? There is a debate ongoing right now; bowser is listed in dictionaries and other encyclopaedias as a type of tanker (bowser (tanker), used to describe water tankers in most of the former British empiure as well as being a standard term for airport fuel tankers) and is the generic term for fuel pump in Australia and NZ, where the S. F. Bowser Corporation had a very strong presence. The Nintendo guys have decided that an agreement between some Nintendo users and some other Nintendo users on the talk page of a Nintendo article amounts to consensus to override a century of common usage. At least one Nintendo guy has done a quick Google and found much to his surprise that Nintendo is not the most common usage; to his great credit he has supported the status quo as I left it, which is that bowser is a dab page. I fixed the many double and triple redirects that this and past moves had caused, one of the Nintendoids undid some of these, which I found a bit frustrating. Anyway, as one admin to another, can you tell me where they went to ask for this move, since I want to make sure they don't do it again (at least not without the other half of the story being put). Thanks, Just zis Guy you know? 08:38, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- I asked him in the IRC chat room. I told him that there was a consensus to move to Bowser, and that you ignored that. - A Link to the Past (talk) 08:50, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, so you editorialised. There is no consensus as is made abundantly clear by the discussions on my Talk page and by Steel's comments at Talk:Bowser (Nintendo). I hope you did not tell him that I am a vandal, since admins tend to get pissed off when users describe good faith actions by other admins as vandalism. Absent consensus a dab page is acceptable, although as other admins have pointed out to you the century-long usage, to the point of being a genericised trademark, actually argues very strongly for the tanker / fuel pump usage. Poll
editThe poll has already been closed, complete with the green box indicating it was closed, and the page was protected. I've reverted. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 20:54, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- So that the admins can judge the consensus. Unfortunately it is needed since this is a contentious topic. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 21:03, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Read you message of thanks to 999
editI had already composed the closing message on my user page when I read it. But it reinforced why it is hopeless to try to remain here. Mattisse(talk) 08:26, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
P.S. I notice did not chide 999 for removing your criticism of him re his uncivil comments to Shravak from his talk page. I guess you felt that it was O.K. to do that. He removed Netsnipe's too. Netsnipe made him put them all back and explained why that was wrong. (So he archived all of your comments.) That is one of the reasons I don't think you are capable of protecting me. 999 outwits you. Mattisse(talk) 09:29, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
