Orphaned non-free media (File:Swannrgb.jpg)
editThanks for uploading File:Swannrgb.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 22:31, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

editWelcome to Wikipedia. One or more of the external links you added in this edit to the page Richard Chopping do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. You may wish to read the introduction to editing. Request reason:
Hi there, I was adding links to an online database kept by Swann Galleries, where I work. I thought this info was helpful to the subjects on Wikipedia--many are obscure and Swann's info is among the only info out there. Yes, it serves our purposes too to have links to our website, but I promise, I was not trying to vandalize anything. I am sorry. There was no offensive content, and all links were directly related to the pages I was posting to. I realize this was too self-serving on Swann's part, and I won't do it anymore. But, please do let me post again. I promise I will only add information that is unique and of value to those researching specific artists or authors for whom Swann has set auction records. Thanks!
Decline reason:
Procedural; no response from blocked editor. If you wish to be unblocked, please post a new request that addresses the questions and concerns of the admins below. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 14:49, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
Here are a few key questions:
- Do you understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and not a business directory?
- Do you understand conflict of interest?
- Do you understand that to be considered for an encylopedia article, the subject must be considered to be notable?
You are currently blocked because your editing appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to policy. Unblocking will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:27, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
"I will only add information that is unique and of value to those researching specific artists or authors for whom Swann has set auction records" looks to me like a declaration that you still intend to edit only about your business, and in a way that promotes it, but will restrict your editing to cases where you think you have a really good promotional point. It does not look like a declaration that you will not edit promotionally. Since Ronhjones has asked you some questions, I will stand back and let you try to answer them to his satisfaction. However, I might otherwise well have declined the unblock request. JamesBWatson (talk) 16:59, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Request reason:
Thanks. I understand your reasoning. I guess my only question then is, is there ever a time when the information that I am adding--even though I work for the company that is setting auction records for artists and writers of note on Wikipedia--is appropriate? If not, that's ok. I mean, I won't post anything related to Swann Galleries ever again. I would like to not be blocked in the event that I have something to conhtribute about other subjects in the future. Although, I am mostly only an expert on Swann since that's where I work.Rebecca04 (talk) 14:38, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Accept reason:
That's the way it works. As jpgordon says, there's nothing to stop you adding data at Article talk pages or that Article's WikiProject talk page and let other editors do the edits for you. You may only be an expert on Swann, but I suspect you may hve some hobbies outside of work time, that you might be able to edit. Of course if you see blatant vandalism on any Swann page then you may revert it, without having to go to the Talk page (but it must be vandalism). Ronhjones (Talk) 01:32, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
You can use the article talk pages to request the information be inserted, and editors not affiliated with the company will review and consider the proposed material. --jpgordon::==( o ) 15:25, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
