In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Shellwood (talk) 20:35, 27 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Your userpage has now been deleted three times. This was not done by accident; it was done because it appears that you are not aware of what a userpage is for. It is a page on which you can write about your skills, experience, expectations, ambitions, history, etc., with reference to your editing on wikipedia. It is not a page on which to create articles, about royalty or anything else. If you wish to create an article, which obviously is the basic function of editors here, do it in articles for creation. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 22:22, 27 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

For other uses, see King (disambiguation).

Louis XIV of France, the "Sun King" (Roi-Soleil), who ruled at the height of French absolutism (painting by Hyacinthe Rigaud 1701). King is the title given to a male monarch in a variety of contexts. The female equivalent is queen regnant (while the title of queen on its own usually refers to the consort of a king.)

In the context of prehistory, antiquity and contemporary indigenous peoples, the title may refer to tribal kingship. Germanic kingship is cognate with Indo-European traditions of tribal rulership (c.f. Indic rājan, Gothic reiks, and Old Irish rí, etc.) In the context of classical antiquity, king may translate Latin rex or either Greek archon or basileus. In classical European feudalism, the title of king as the ruler of a kingdom is understood as the highest rank in the feudal order, potentially subject, at least nominally, only to an emperor (harking back to the client kings of the Roman Empire).[1] In a modern context, the title may refer to the ruler of one of a number of modern monarchies (either absolute or constitutional). The title of king is used alongside other titles for monarchs, in the West prince, emperor, archduke, duke or grand duke, in the Middle East sultan or emir; etc.[2] King may also refer to a king consort, a title that is sometimes given to the husband of a ruling queen, however the title prince consort is sometimes granted instead.
