Conflict of Interest
editHi, just wanted you to be aware of these policies WP:COI and WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY in regards to Gregory Retallack. Wikipedia's community convention is that articles are to be edited by people with no association to the topic to ensure neutral and reliable information. Perhaps recommend that if there are any changes you'd like to see rather post on the talk page of the article. There's currently some controversy about your edits due to COI. Thanks. -- Green Cardamom (talk) 08:12, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
minor edits only
editThanks Green Cardamon, I appreciate the independent editing of the article which have helped a lot. My edits were only minor (adding and correcting links, making spaces), with the exception of deleting a sentence on reception the theories, which is unnecessary because duplicated in the last section Critical Reception, where the debate is referenced with much more recent citations than the 1990's ones suggested. The debate has moved on since then. Wikipedia editors will prevail --Retallack (talk

FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 00:55, 4 March 2014 (UTC)Tagging edits as minor
editHi prof.Retallack! Just an heads up: Edits like this, where a non trivial amount of stuff is added/removed/modified, should not be marked as minor. The "minor edit" tag is for really, really small stuff like fixing spelling of a word, punctuation or the like. Also, please do not remove tags without actually fixing the issue of the tag (or giving an explanation). Thanks a lot for your editing and for your scientific work!--cyclopiaspeak! 00:55, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
Dicroidum article
editHello, thanks for writing this article! I’ve just read it and I’m a bit concerned that it has no citations. That worries me since without proof that this topic is notable, meaning covered enough in journals and published research to get a Wikipedia article on it, the article may get deleted.
Are there any reliable sources on the topic that you can add? If so just edit the article and add citations using the cite tool, or if you have any thoughts or questions just let me know. Blythwood (talk) 23:57, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

editHello, I'm Wiae. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Alethopteridaceae with this edit, without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. /wiae /tlk 23:27, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Dear Wiae, I am trying to sort out a confusing set of redirects. The fossil plants have several taxonomic levels, and also parallel classifications of different organs. Wikipedia is excellent at sorting this out, but merging all into large categories just generates confusion. Alethopteridaceae should include only information on that family, not the whole order. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Retallack (talk • contribs) 01:21, 19 March 2016
Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Arberiales, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you. — Smjg (talk) 17:57, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
Please do not remove all content from pages without explanation, as you did with this edit to Template:Taxonomy/Possible Plantae. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing. CAPTAIN RAJU (✉) 22:12, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Pleuromeia
editYou've transferred Pleuromeia into the Isoetales without any explanation or source. Every current source I know of places it in its own order Pleuromeiales. So why the change? --EncycloPetey (talk) 04:16, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
- The source is my own paper of 1997 in J. Paleontology cited in Isoetes page. Many of us see a close relationship between Pleuromeia and the quillworts, and are happy to have them separate families, but not orders. Retallack — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:468:D01:5C:8086:213A:3664:41BD (talk) 15:11, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
Then, the Pleuromeia page really needs a paragraph in the taxonomy section explaining this change, and should cite the paper explicitly. --EncycloPetey (talk) 20:26, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
OK: I plan more work on these pages including uploads in the next few weeks. Current conflict of interest guidelines
editThanks for the work you do here, just noting that the conflict of interest guidelines have perhaps been strengthened since you began editing and it might be worth reviewing them, particularly in terms of editing the article about yourself, but also in linking to your own work. It would be preferable to use the Template:Edit request to suggest changes on the talk page when they involve adding references to your own work. See below for more details. Thank you.
Hello, Retallack. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 21:53, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

Astropedology moved to draftspace
editAn article you recently created, Astropedology, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. editCategorisation
editPlease take the time to understand a bit more about WP:CATEGORISATION before categorising eg the articles you recently put in Category:Ordovician fossils from Tennessee. For one thing, you should never use categories that don't exist, per WP:REDNOT. And more generally, be wary of WP:OVERCATEGORISATION, in particular when trying to fit the natural world into modern political boundaries. It soon gets very messy for species with a widespread distribution, the folks dealing with extant species tend to prefer by continent or biogeographic zone as they just don't respect political boundaries - and obviously those boundaries are even less meaningful for species that predate Pangaea! There were a few fossils of (state) so somewhat reluctantly I've created Category:Fossils of Tennessee and put your articles in it, and added them to Category:Ordovician plants which is perhaps the more relevant one - in general it's better to classify them as living organisms although obviously trace fossils have to be in fossil categories. Keep up the good work though, it's good that those articles are being created. Cheers. Le Deluge (talk) 14:16, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
