editHi Riana. Is it possible to change the orange bar color when a user edits the talk page? Or is orange the only color it is? King Lopez Contribs 10:17, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ooo.. Nearly empty talk page :) If you change your css, you could change the new messages bar colour, but I am unsure of the scripting... --DarkFalls talk 10:22, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Bingo!!! --DarkFalls talk 10:23, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Mine is white and round. If you tell me what colours you like I can make one for you :) ~ Riana ⁂ 10:32, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Should we rename this page to User talk:RianaFalls? Dark Falls has taken it over :D mind you, he is your sockpuppet ;-) Anthøny 18:41, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
You have to do some modifiying of User:King Lopez/monobook.css, or whatever. I'll show you how, if you need some help. –sebi 08:09, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Update on Category:Rescaled fairuse images more than 7 days old strangeness
editSince you are still the primary user of this category, I thought you should know. I just noticed today that the category had again been missing tagged images. This prompted a couple of hours of searching, which leads me to believe that the MediaWiki software has some bugsundocumented features when it comes to conditional categorization, based on ParserFunctions. It seems that doing any edit to the {{non-free reduced}} template (including a null edit, which does not show up anywhere) will cause at least some of the category to be repopulated. To begin with, I'd like to see if doing null edits when the category seems empty is enough to eventually catch all of them (I will manually verify with a check of the tags), but if that doesn't seem to work, I will switch to real dated categories (the "as of date" kind) and request a bot to create the dated category pages (DumbBOT seems like an obvious candidate). --Pekaje 15:50, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm, interesting! I'm glad you managed to figure out a (temporary?) solution, and I'll bear it in mind. I was wondering when I'd get my next deleting fix :) ~ Riana ⁂ 17:10, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well, you certainly have some to go through now! I noticed that it seemed to have stabilized at some 77 images, but I was able to manually find at least one that was missing. Then I wrote a category-traversing script (set with delays, so as not to generate excessive traffic) using the query.php interface to parse the date on the tags, and found that 95 images should have been marked. Then I immediately went back to the category and noticed that now (hours after it had stabilized on 77) it did indeed show 95 images in the list. This makes me suspect that it was a side-effect of downloading the wikitext through query.php. It is possible that they would have showed up eventually anyway, once the category got emptied out a bit and another null edit was performed, but there is no way to verify that at this time. I'd like to see how it goes for a few days and then run the script again to see if every image got caught. If it doesn't seem to be working correctly, I'll get working on the dated categories instead. The reason I didn't do that in the first place is that the volume of images seems to be right between where it becomes difficult to handle it with no expiry category, but adding one for each date seems wasteful (some days there are none or just a few). --Pekaje 21:49, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well, the backlog has now been cleared, and another database run-through shows me that all images that should be in that category must indeed have been there, as there are no time-stamps older than 7 days to be found. I'll leave it as it is, then. If ever the volume of rescaled images demands individually dated categories, don't hesitate to let me know. I have the code for that ready in the history of one of my sandboxes. --Pekaje 16:35, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yes! And now that it's on the main speedy deletion page, and I've been moaning about it in the admin IRC channel a bit, I'm not working on it alone :D All down to you, you did a great job with the dated category. Let's see if individually dated categories become necessary at some point, I don't feel they will right now ~ Riana ⁂ 16:37, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

A lil help in Hindi ?
editHi. Recently I had a request to translate the Scout Motto Be Prepared into Tamil and I accomplished it with ease. However, the same user, Chris, asked for me to translate it into Hindi... and there I was (am) lacking. Would it be too much trouble? From the Bharat Scouts page, I figured out that the motto is Taiyar... Hope you can help. (Or Dark Falls, mebbe?!) aJCfreakyAk 22:16, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm let's see... "Error code 221: Not compatible for translation." How come I always get the second-hand stuff? --DarkFalls talk 06:57, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- I would say it's Taiyar ho - taiyar means 'prepared', so putting the ho gives the instruction. I think! :) ~ Riana ⁂ 07:12, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- I really dunno. But whatever it is (I think I failed to mention this the previous time), would it be possible for you to add the translation (in the correct script) to the Scout Motto article? Thanks. aJCfreak yAk 14:15, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

editYou have built a monument more lasting than bronze and more glorious than the pyramids of kings, which neither corrosive rain nor the raging north wind can demolish, nor can the countless succession of the years nor the flight of time. You shall not wholly die, and the best of you shall escape of the Goddess of WikiDeath: you shall grow ever greater, fresh with the praise of future generations, so long as the wheel of fortune turns inexorably. It will be said of you, where raging Aufidus roars and where Daunus, poor in water, ruled his rustic people, that you were the first to create userpages of beauty for those of great intent. Take the proud glory that has been won by your merits and may Melpomene garland your locks with Delphic laurel.

Your comment
editPerhaps I was unnecessarily heated, but guts is exactly what was needed to make that decision. I have heard there is some precedent for semi protecting RFA's, but this was still an instance of the application of IAR. To do so takes the courage and maturity to recognize when a continuation of business as usual defies common sense and the evidence at hand. If Alison is as experienced as you say, then she should be able to do so rather than make a knee-jerk denial. VanTucky (talk) 16:24, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Your point could quite easily have been phrased in a far more courteous manner. ~ Riana ⁂ 16:26, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'm a bureaucrat as well. It's more appropriate for a bureaucrat to do these things than an admin, and there's where Alison's experience as an admin clearly shows because she knew this too. --Deskana (banana) 16:27, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- (ec) VanTucky, quite frankly, it took more "guts" to deny your request than simply slap down the prothammer. Protection coming from me just looks like disenfranchisement (on an encyclopedia that "anyone can edit" - it's one of the five pillars), and needs to come from a 'crat IMO, as it just has. Please assume a little good faith on my part here. I've a job to do as admin and, as has been pointed out already, am highly active on WP:RPP. I decline protections many times a day - Alison ☺ 16:30, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Question
editOn this image, what would be a proper Fair-Use Rationale? I am a little confused there and with the copyright status. - NeutralHomer T:C 05:06, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'm a bit unsure if the image can be considered fair use in the first place... I was under the impression that works by the US government is public domain. Maybe one of the templates on Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/USA might cover it? If the image is copyright however, it needs to be taken off Template:StateGov-WV (Use of image probably only covers West Virginia and Seal of West Virginia...) It also needs a fair use rationale following the policy of the non-free image criteria, and a license tag such as {{Seal}}. --DarkFalls talk 06:20, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I copied the banner that is on most US State Seals and added a F-UR. Do you think that will work or do I need to add something else? If so, please let me know and I will be glad to. Take Care....NeutralHomer T:C 06:58, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- You'll need a descriptive fair use rationale that follows the Non free content criteria. For examples, see some of Riana's fair use uploads.... Also needed is to limit the use of the image. Try removing it from the template, and limiting the use of the image to only West Virginia and Seal of West Virginia. --DarkFalls talk 07:04, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- My Outkast upload was fairly poor (I was just moving it from a bad name) - I frankly despise templated rationales - have a look at this one, which is probably a bit better :) ~ Riana ⁂ 07:14, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Okie Dokie:) I added that F-UR and took it off that one template. It remains on a template for the list of West Virginia Governors (part of the WV Wikiproject)...I am not sure if that is OK, which is why I left it be for the time being. If it isn't, please let me know and I will remove it from that template as well. Take Care...NeutralHomer T:C 08:57, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- That's great! However, since the image is unfree, it will need to be removed from {{WVGovernors}} - unfree images can't be used outside the article namespace. ~ Riana ⁂ 09:12, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- It now only links to the state of [{West Virginia]] page. The WV Wikiproject people are probably going to be mad though. Oh well, ya can't please everyone all the time :) Thanks for your help. Take Care...NeutralHomer T:C 10:22, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

editThank you for taking the time to tap me on the shoulder. When I read the post, I saw 'by Lsi:john' at the end and interpreted it as Evula telling Durova that she was being mentioned 'by me'. I stand corrected and I appreciate your intervention.
As for conspiracy.. heh.. i'm not significant enough to warrant a conspiracy against me. ;) Thanks again. Peace.Lsi john 16:52, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Conspiracy is perhaps a stronger word than I should have used... however I do realise that there are many editors who feel that admins can be a little cliquey, and some of your comments on EV's page made me wonder whether you thought so too - hence the use of that term. Either way, no harm done :) Best, ~ Riana ⁂ 16:56, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, thats probably because you aren't familiar with the history between Evula and myself. No worries either way. Thanks again! Peace.Lsi john 17:06, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

- "You are being mentioned at WP:ANI#Civility and personal attacks by User:Lsi_john. EVula // talk // ☯ // 15:12, 16 August 2007 (UTC)"
- My screen doesn't always show the 'blue link' clearly, so when you read it in B&W it's easier to see why I mis-read it. Still my fault, but perhaps it's a bit more understandable. :) Peace.Lsi john 17:10, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

You have incorrect programming information. People are on the air talking about this daily and listeners are calling in , they are directing to the site to make corrections. That right exist for everyone. It is ridiculous for anyone to not update information. We have been informed that you refused to even acknowkedge that the company has an african americam president. - I'm not entirely sure where you got the impression that I was attempting to halt the progress of the African-American (as far as I can tell the progress of any race in any industry is a good thing... ) It is generally frowned upon for editors who are deeply involved with a subject to edit about that subject. I recommend you discuss your concerns on the talkpage of the article, since this is better than edit warring over the article. Thanks, ~ Riana ⁂ 16:22, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Uncivil editor
editHello Riana,
There is an editor, User:Thamarih who is constantly being uncivil and who has engaged in personal attacks. I've tried to stay mostly out of it, as I find there's no point answering someone who is just ranting, but his personal attacks on other users is really getting out of hand. He's been given warnings by myself [1] and another [2], but he has continued his personal attacks. Another editor User:MARussellPESE brought up the case on the administrator's incident's board, but it's been ignored. Some very recent examples of his statements include:
- "Stop playing your stupid agnostic games, cultist" [3]
- "Go to the devil, cultist! You don't own this place. And I ain't your dude, mofo!" [4]
- "Go to the devil and go report to whoever you want, cultist jerk! You think I'm afraid of you or your threats?? There's a global momentum building right now against precisely the sort of misinformation hackery you Fascists have been engaged on wikipedia, with ramming down your misinformation and propaganda down people's throats. People like Kurt Nimmo and I have declared all out war on scum-bags like you." [5]
This in combination with his editing practices which go against all the reliable sources, bringing in his own original work is highly disruptive. For example, he keeps trying to change the name of the Azali article to Bayani when all the sources give the name Azali. Regards, -- Jeff3000 14:09, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

A Strange Thing
editHi Riana. How are you? Since we have changed my message bar. I have noticed one strange thing also. Other than my message bar which is dark blue I have noticed that the color orange on other pages are dark blue also. For example. If you look at User talk:Persian Poet Gal the time banner on her talk page is orange. But when I log in it turns dark blue.(Which is the same color is my message bar.) Now is that normal? Or we need to make an adjustment on my monobook Or it should be like that? King Lopez Contribs 09:56, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- One more thing I have noticed. When I installed WP:TW on my User:King Lopez/monobook.js It works great in the firefox browser. But when I use Internet Explorer it blanks the screen for a second when I browse from page to page. Is that normal when I use twinkle in Internet Explorer? King Lopez Contribs 10:24, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- Changing the usermessage colours will change it wherever someone's used it, even for another purpose (eg on PPG's page). As for Twinkle, I'm not sure, I've never used it really, you could ask AzaToth. ~ Riana ⁂ 18:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- AzaToth wouldn't be able to help much. He already stated that making it work for IE is "damn near impossible". Okay, stop giving me that look Riana. It was my (credible) analysis... he actually said "technically impossible to implement, as IE doesn't allow forcing of mime-type" --DarkFalls talk 11:31, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

A request
editHi Riana. I just came across a user page (User:Beau Parent) that is obviously spoofing and attacking me. Can you speedy this for me as {{db-g3}} or should I go through MfD? I found it because an anon 219.74.29.101 (talk · contribs) blanked an old AfD. I reverted that and warned. However, it seems that it (the anon) is a vandal who regrets having created some things and is trying to hide the evidence. Any ideas what I should do with this all? Revert as vandalism? Maintain the "courtesy blanking"? Thanks, Flyguy649 talk contribs 13:32, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- I kinda IAR-ed on the userpage and deleted it - he's had it as a copy of yours and another admin's for some time, strangely. As for the blanking, I wouldn't worry too much - he seems to be playing around with some hoax article. He might have created it himself. Strangeness all around :) ~ Riana ⁂ 13:43, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Tiananmen Square self-immolation incident
editThank you for your intervention in the above. However, I would point out that the request was made under a false premise that there was a "dispute". There has already been a request for comment about one phrase in the whole article, and a sensible discussion has been taking place in the talk page. There have been two "reverts" with detailed comments, and no edit wars according to my definition, and none were imminent IMHO except possibly for the requester, who feels boxed in the corner as the sole dissenter. Habitual, occasional and non-habitual FG editors, had commented almost unanimously against keeping the phrase in its current form, but the requester appears to be pushing his way irrespective of the consensus and the evidence. Since yesterday, the article has been going through a major rewrite. I am requesting the protect be released. Ohconfucius 02:06, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

- Yes, see WP:BAN. Will (talk) 22:46, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
