The Africa Channel
editHi! I re-wrote some of the content you added to The Africa Channel for two reasons -
The first is that the content was taken directly from the channel's website. This is considered to be a copyright violation, as the channel has copyrighted the content on its website. The basic gist of copyright policy on Wikipedia is that you cannot use content that has been previously published elsewhere because copyright is automatically assumed to be held by the content owner/creator unless the page explicitly states that the content has been released under a compatible Creative Content license. You should always try to re-write content in your own words whenever possible, especially as the original content can often contain prose that would be considered unsuitable for Wikipedia in its current state.
For example, the About page on the channel's page contains content that would be considered promotional in tone, as they want to encourage people to watch their channel. It's something that's fine and recommended for them to do on their website, but it's not really appropriate for Wikipedia because an article is supposed to be neutral in tone. Terms like "most outstanding" and "incredible" are considered to be opinions and while they may be a common opinion, it's still not neutral and including it can make the page appear like a promotion for the channel. A general rule of thumb is that a reader should not be able to tell what your stance is on a topic.
I also noted that you re-added the content after it was removed by another user, Yunshui. Please do not do this - this can be considered edit warring. The best thing to do in this situation is to create a discussion about the content's removal, either on the talk page of the article or the other editor.
Now all of this aside, it looks like this article can use a lot of work, so this was a good choice of an article to work on since there's a lot you can do here. Good job on the choice! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:48, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
- I would also like to ask that you complete the tutorials before editing further. I noted that you have not completed the modules on Wikipedia Essentials, Editing Basics, Evaluating Articles and Sources, and Sources and Citations, which were part of the prior week's assignments. These modules contain very important information on editing that you need to know before you begin editing.
