Welcome!

Hello, Robert Elwes Author, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited appears to be an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. We require individuals to meet Wikipedia's definition of a notable person to accept articles about them.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page. If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. ~~~~ I hope you will let Robert Elwes Author go on to Wikipedia please as so many readers asked me to enter my autobiographic details at Book Fairs. here is my copy as I am not very bright and a bit dyslexic with regards Wikipedia entries. I work at the Landesbibliothek in Bregenz and write musical travel books published across the World on Amazon and in now several bookshops these days too. My sincerest thanks and here is my details if you wish to be HELPFUL publishing them for schools, Universities and many libraries who requested me to write down my Wikipedia entry below;

You have an obvious conflict of interest, please don't write about yourself, your friends or relatives and read the guidance below:

  • When you write about a person, you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that they meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Your text had no in-line references, no wikilinks, no verifiable claim of notability as linked above. Writers write books, that isn't enough to show notability. The tone was promotional, and the lack of formatting and references suggests it was copied from somewhere, although I didn't check.

You get an article here if you meet the criteria above, not because you or a library want you to have one. Your draft title was wrong, it should be Draft:Robert Elwes (author).

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:52, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

So sorry and I hope you understand I am simply trying to help students and lecturers find the right Robert Elwes Author biography not Robert Elwes of Langs Neck or Robert Elwes the Traveller (my ancestors). Hope you see I am hoping Wikipedia can offer it to students studying my books. Best Wishes Jimfbleak. i see that someone has already placed my photograph after a reading Bregenz on your Wikipedia but many Universities seek my biography. Hope you can maybe do something to assist them. Best Wishes from Landesbiblothek Bregenz. Robert Elwes Author.

I will not see messages on your talk page, unless you ping me as you have already been advised, using {{ping|Jimfbleak}} and signing in the same edit.
You said once again I have set up a draft to assist you but I can't see it in [your contributions, please provide a link.
I have no interest in promoting you or your books, but if you are intent on doing so, draft at Draft:Robert Elwes (author), and when you are ready submit it for independent review using {{subst:submit}}
Please look at eg Emma Louisa Turner to see what a biography should like like, with proper independent references and wikilinks. Note that most of the illustrations can only be used because they are out of copyright. That wouldn't apply to you, they must be images donated by the copyright holder Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:51, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
It seems to me that you are ignoring all the advice you have been given, still posting chunks of text with no in-line sources, no wikilinks and an unencyclopaedic tone. Even your supposed refs are unhelpful, your own books, interviews with you, newspapers without authors, article titles or pages, and supposed letters without any indication of where these letters are publicly available to verify them. No url links to the articles either. If your next effort is anything like this, I'll block your account, you are just wasting our time. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:39, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Using fake article titles like "Robert Elwes Esq Author & Musical Travel Diarist" isn't helping you either, although I note that it was created prior to the warning above Jimfbleak - talk to me? 09:17, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

  Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions; however, it appears you may have written a Wikipedia article, or a draft for a Wikipedia article, about yourself, at Draft:Robert Elwes Esq Author & Musical Travel Diarist. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – please see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to or change an existing article about yourself, you are welcome to propose the changes by visiting the article's talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss this with the deleting administrator. Thank you.   Hello, I'm Deb. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.Deb (talk) 18:11, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps you could let us know which academic institutions have your books on their curriculum. As yet, you haven't given any examples. Without such evidence, it will tend to be assumed that you are a self-published author trying to push your own work. Deb (talk) 18:24, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your text is completely unsourced, and is promotional. You should use WP:AFC to create and submit drafts- if you want to pursue this at all despite the advice of the autobiography policy. You should be summarizing what independent reliable sources state about you, not what you say about yourself. See Referencing for beginners. 331dot (talk) 11:22, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because your account is being used only for advertising or promotion.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

I warned you earlier today that you could be blocked if you did not cease your disruptive editing and stop trying to promote yourself. I can only assume that you did not understand what I said. If you have indeed read any of the Wikipedia guidelines, you have presumably not understood them. Unfortunately I have had no option but to block you as you seem to be unable to contribute to the required standard. Deb (talk) 12:50, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
