Misidentification of Veronica hederifolia

edit

Hello,
Sorry for the long pause I had been away from wikipedia for awhile due to college. The image in question has been reviewed by a person I have found rather trustworthy in the field on flickr. You can see the image and comments at this URL. If you find that we are wrong please feel free to contact me again. I am in no way a botanist and have in no shape or form any formal training. Thank you for categorizing it and feel free to contact me at anytime. -- IvanTortuga (talk) 18:50, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello Ivan, even though the leaves are not completely in focus on the image I am still convinced that your image does not show Veronica hederifolia. I posted my reasons here: Commons:File talk:Veronica hederifolia.jpg. You can find some typical images of Veronica hederifolia here:
http://linnet.geog.ubc.ca/ShowDBImage/ShowStandard.aspx?index=6116
http://flora.nhm-wien.ac.at/Seiten-Arten/Veronica-hederifolia.htm (Austrian page, in German)
Veronica polita should look like this: http://flora.nhm-wien.ac.at/Seiten-Arten/Veronica-polita.htm (but there may be lookalikes in Michigan). This should explain the difference between crenate leaves (as in Veronica polita) and lobed leaves (as in Veronica hederifolia). Please note that USDA does not even list Veronica hederifolia among the species found in Michigan (whatever that really means). -- Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 08:39, 30 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Trifolium campestre

Hi Robert,

I did take File:Flower6.jpg in Newfoundland. Thank you for identifying it! Now the photo can be usefully employed in the encyclopedia.
