What do you mean by "rating"? I can go through and make additional edits. One major thing is that you don't want to talk in 1st person, such as the "Bibliography" section in the Gus Wingfield page. Maximusveritas 03:49, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Are you sure you want to have the articles rated? I don't think it's neccesary at this point. That's usually only for articles that have been around for a long time and want to be considered for Featured Article status. You should probably try to do some more work on the articles before that. One thing you could try to do is add more citations. This page can help you with that. -Maximusveritas 03:52, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
I think that's a good decision. The articles you've written are pretty good as is, so moving on to new articles is the way to go. Maximusveritas 15:18, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
If you would like to insert an image and it hasn't already been uploaded by someone else, you would need to upload a suitable image yourself and then link to it. I don't have much experience with that myself, but you can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Contents/Images_and_media The simplest way to do the template would be to copy one from a related topic. Template:U.S. State Attorneys General would be a good one to look at. I'll go ahead and do that for you, but you'll need to fill in the correct names for each state. Maximusveritas 17:01, 23 December 2006 (UTC) I put the template in Template:U.S. State Auditors instead of Template:State Auditors. Maximusveritas 17:15, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

- Creating the State Auditor's template. Now, I know about 15-20 states don't have a state auditor, but we need to make a template for all that do. I don't know how to format and work the template design, so here's the blank template: {{State Auditors}}.

editRobert you were repeatedly informed by Brownhairedgirl that any further posting on her talk page would not be welcome at all. Taking this into account would you please remove your posting from the page. Thank you - Galloglass 22:16, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- That was nearly a year ago. I merely wanted to contact her in order to discuss some things with her and settle whatever problems may have develped between us. And, I do wish you wouldn't mess with my talk page. Things that were deleted were deleted because I did not want to see them every time I came on.--Robert Waalk (talk) 00:18, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- And, I was not repeatedly asked, I was asked once, and I obliged. I only do so now to get in contact.
- If you recall Robert, BrownHairedGirl posted a number of times on her own page in reply to your posts for you to stop posting there as well as the request here. So I ask you again, can you please comply with these requests. - Galloglass 07:20, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Can you tell me what other way I may contact her?
- Thanks Robert. I think this is the best way to proceed. - Galloglass 18:26, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- May you offer me someway that I could still contact her when she returns? I do need to talk to her, a polite discussion, and I wish to bury any hatchet and get things worked out between her and the gerontology people before I return to that group.--Robert Waalk (talk) 18:51, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to the Novels WikiProject
editHi, and welcome to the Novels WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to fiction books often referred to as "Novels".
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated quite regularly. You can watch it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WikiProject_Novels_announcements}} there.
While you are updating your userpage, don't forget our userbox {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Outreach/User WPNOVELS}}. - The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but other methods are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines / template outlines some things to include.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the members, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around!
Thanks for all your help with the Novels Collaboration of the Month. Much appreciated. – Liveste (talk • edits) 03:03, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for uploading that book cover, but you had overwritten a previously existing image with your upload, as result that cover featured on Boris Zubry as this guy's portrait:) I've fixed it for you by reuploading it as Image:Thomas Wolfe - Look Homeward, Angel.jpg and updating the article. Next time please don't ignore warnings the system displays during uploads, choosing more descriptive names for images also helps to avoid confusion. And by the way, happy editing! Look Homeward Angel - Pogledaj dom svoj andjele
edit- Bio je to prvi, pravi povratak u istoriji jugoslovenskog roka i to najviše zahvaljujući pesmi "Pogledaj dom svoj anđele", koja je tako nazvana po romanu američkog pisca Tomasa Volfa. (Translation: It was the first real comeback in the history of Yugoslav rock, mostly because of the song Look Homeward Angel named after a novel by the American writer Thomas Wolfe.)--EX YU ROCK enciklopedija 1960-2006 (Ex YU Rock Encyclopedia 1960-2006 or Encyclopedia of former Yugoslav Rock 1960-2006), Janjatović Petar; ISBN 978-86-905317-1-4, page 173;
(Translation: But they were silenced by the song Look Homeward Angel, named so after the Thomas Wolfe's novel, and previously published in Bora Đorđević's first book of poems Listless Towards Crying.--Riblja čorba, Jakovljević Mirko; ISBN 86-83525-39-2, page 60.
- This is only something from the two books I own, and I'm quite aware I'll have to find some text on the internet to support theese claims, I just wanted to show to you you're mistaking saying the song probably wasn't named after the novel... I agree with you that the information about Pogledaj, dom svoj anđele being named after Wolfe's novel Look Homeward Angel seems trivial, and in fact the song with its apocalyptical lyrics has nothing in common with the novel except the title, but that information was placed inside the article in the Influences section while the article was still too short. I'm not quite sure if the information should be inside the Look Homeward Angel article, if you think it shouldn't it's Ok with me... And I believe the novel WAS translated into other languages, including Serbian (the translation Pogledaj dom svoj anđele being little unusual, archaic...). Oh, and I just want to know: what did you mean when you wrote that you're "certain it's never been on the shelfs in Serbia"? The fact you're a native speaker of English indicates you don't know much about Serbia, so I think I can guess what you meant... And if it is so, your statement offended me. Ostalocutanje (talk)
- I merely did not think that the novel, rather obscure today, had actually been translated into Serbian, which is not a major language.
- Ok, ok, understood... It's just that the way you said it, made it sound... well, you know... Ostalocutanje (talk)

- Task force news
- A new task force has now commenced under the Novels Project known as the Twilight task force, based on the Twilight series of vampire-based fantasy/romance novels by author Stephenie Meyer. - Member in Focus
- Yllosubmarine (talk · contribs) has been a member of the Novels WikiProject for nearly two years, and a coordinator since May. Aside from her work outside the project (including four FAs and six GAs in various areas), she has been active in the Project's Assessment and Peer Review departments. She hopes to continue in these roles as well as help encourage more activity and community research within the Project. With the upcoming coordinator election, she hopes that others will volunteer to become more active in their roles as Project members so that we can continue to provide quality articles to the readers of this encyclopedia.
|- | valign="top" style="border: 1px gray solid; padding: 1em;" |
- Current debates
- A collection of Wikipedia articles is being collected together as Wikipedia 0.7. This collection will be released on DVD, so we have been asked to review the articles selected from this project. Revisions are requested before October 20. More details can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/GeneralForum#Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Novel.

On the advice of Coordinator Maria, the newsletter is now only distributed to active listed members of the Novels Project. A new section has started with this issue called 'In Focus', which will feature various members and task forces each month. Members are requested to post any news items to the Tip Line (found above) to make sure it reaches the next newsletter before closing date, which is always the last day of the preceding month. Any task force news should be added by the coordinator of that task force. Having news items helps inform members of what is happening at the various task forces and so can be a way of encouraging more membership and participation. Editors are required to assist with the newsletter for Task Force News and Peer Reviews & Assessments News, which involves the gathering of news items from the main project and the various task forces. These positions may be applied for at the Job Centre. |

Our last newsletter's challenge Griffin's Daughter was uncompleted.

Reliable sources
editYou wrote at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Assessment:
- How is book rags not a credible source? I realize its not free for everyone but it is a college lit. study guide seller. There's a double-edge here on wikipedia, everybody wants everything sourced to death, yet no individual knowledge or reserach can be used unless its sourced, (as if a second individual automatically makes everything true), and on these obscure novels and projects normally nothing can be done because the information just does not exist on the web or files of online resources. I don't think you can have such a high standard, but still, book rags is credible, the review is some 20,000 words long and its written by college professors. I think you should take what you can get on these books because some information is better than no informationand its still validated. Its probably the only possible source in existence that I could a thorough and succinct plot review to summarize for purposes of an encylopedia article, since unlike a real encyclopedia, especially a literature one, their can be no individual research or opinion here.--Robert Waalk (talk) 00:45, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Bookrags.com is not a reliable source as per WP:RS. "Articles should be based on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy." It may be possible to find reliable sources through Bookrags, but the site itself is a landmine of uncited claims, non-expert original research, and unchecked facts. It has been shot down by Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard more than once. Plot summaries do not technically require citations because the obvious source for an article about a novel is the novel itself. Possible sources may include reviews from established publications (New York Times book reviews, for example) or interviews with the author(s) by a media syndication. Don't think you have to rely on Bookrags, Sparknotes, Enotes, or other refuges for desperate high school students! An encyclopedic article should rely on the most reputable of sources, not the easiest to access. I hope this helps, María (habla conmigo) 00:56, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- From just a quick Google Books, I found many critical collections, biographies, etc, that mention the novel:
- The Autobiographical Outline for Look Homeward, Angel by Thomas Wolfe, Lucy Conniff, Richard S. Kennedy
- Thomas Wolfe: The Critical Reception by Paschal Reeves
- Thomas Wolfe Interviewed 1929-1938 by Aldo P. Magi, Richard Gaither Walser]
- Also check out your local library, or closest university library; mine has 20+ books that popped up with a simple search for the title. Sometimes the best sources are the ones you have to hunt for, but this novel seems to have fairly good coverage. María (habla conmigo) 01:15, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Steppenwolf Picture
editdebate moved to the novels General Forum. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 06:03, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome, although quite a bit of work is still needed. I saw that you added Category:Translations after my edit; this is incorrect, as the article is not about the English translation, it's about the novel itself. If you click on the link to the category, you will see that it is for articles solely about translations, and does not include books that happen to have been translated. The information in the infobox (including the image and publication details) should also reflect the novel's first edition, not the translation. I understand that it's confusing, as this is the English Wikipedia and all, but original editions are inherently more notable, as is their initial publication. I hope this helps, María (habla conmigo) 15:40, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Nope
editMe? I'm not in charge of anything. I've taken up writing the newsletter - you shall be receiving the July edition in a couple of days - and I'm standing in the Coordinator Election. There is a Collaboration section in the newsletter and to try and keep everything moving in an attempt to revive the Project, I choose The Tin Drum last month, and this month selected the article with the largest number of votes, and then basically archived the nominations which weren't going anywhere. Sorry if I've given you the wrong impression. Best regards, Alan16 (talk) 15:34, 25 July 2009 (UTC).
- Coordinator election, yes, that's what i was thinking of. I really need to clean this page up. Problem with everything is I'm not the best with the formating for wikipedia, don't know all the odds and outs of it.--Robert Waalk (talk) 15:39, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Novels - August "Member in Focus"
editHi Robert. You are an active member - especially in the Collaboration department. I would therefore like you to be the "Member in Focus" in this months newsletter. Can you please provide around 150 to 200 words on yourself and what you do for the project. "Members in Focus" are normally about 300-400 words, however this week there shall be two "Members in Focus". Just so you know, I may edit what you write, merely for spacing. Can you please let me know by Sunday 16 August whether you can do this or not? Regards, Alan16 (talk) 14:13, 11 August 2009 (UTC).
- Sure, my talk page is fine. The newsletter will probably be going out on Friday 21 or Saturday 22, so if I could get it a week from now (Wed 19), that be great. Regards, Alan16 (talk) 22:22, 12 August 2009 (UTC).
- Hi. I could use your paragraph pretty soon. Thanks, Alan16 (talk) 15:57, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I need your paragraph by tomorrow at the latest. Alan16 (talk) 15:40, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, I'll assume you're away or unable to get online, so I've had to put back your go as "Member in Focus" until September. Regards, Alan16 (talk) 13:29, 22 August 2009 (UTC).
- It's no problem. I'll be moving to Edinburgh Uni in mid-September so I'm sure I'll experience the same chaos soon enough. You can be "Member in Focus" for September if you want, so if you send me a message soon saying whether you have the time or not, that'd be great. Regards, Alan16 (talk) 00:06, 23 August 2009 (UTC).

Unreferenced BLPs
editHello Robert Waalk! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 294 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
