Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Pico Curavacas, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Heather (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

DO NOT COPY

edit

"DO NOT COPY" is a basic concept in academia. The content you added here Raaja was copied from this source. This is unacceptable. Copying is intellectually dishonest and lazy, and constitutes intellectual theft. Plagiarism and copyright violations will not be tolerated at Wikipedia.

Additionally, re: this, we do not use IMDb or any other user-generated website as a reference and We Do Not Write Like This In English. If you can't write in standard English with proper English and typography, you shouldn't be editing prose. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:49, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately I've had to revert the bulk of your recent edits because I can't take the time to check how much content you lifted. This is your one warning. If you do this again, your privileges will be pulled. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:58, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Mess

edit

This content is problematic for a few reasons, including that you introduced English grammar errors. You also listed FOURTEEN people, calling them "stars", when according to the source you provided, the majority of these names are indicated as supporting actors. "Starring" does not mean "appearing in". It is a special credit typically reserved for the film's leads. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:21, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because you've raised significant concerns about your competency. Although many of your edits are well-meaning and helpful, your limited English reading comprehension skill has resulted in error-laden content, all of which require clean-up of some kind,[1][2][3][4] but much of your other content appears to be copied almost verbatim from the sources you used.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11] Copyright violations are not tolerated at Wikipedia, and your editing privileges have been interrupted to protect the encyclopedia. Maybe you should edit at a Wikipedia in your native tongue.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:51, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I am sorry for my English. I started Wikipedia because it was suggested at my University that we learn by contributing. I actually enjoyed editing Wikipedia, but there are many rules it seems I still don't know. I am sorry for breaking them, specially the Copyright violations. If I am allowed another chance, I will work at this, and make sure my English is to an acceptable level before editing again. Thank you for considering giving me one last chance Rondolinda (talk) 14:58, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Problems

edit

A shortlist of some things I saw.

  1. Sourcing. IMDB is not a reliable source; fortunately other sources are acceptable. (But see WP:CITE on how to cite properly--not with bare URLs.)
  2. Copyvios. Obviously. Can't copy and paste.
  3. Attribution. That you copied text is bad enough, but even if it had been paraphrased, it should have said something like, "According to reviewer X from The Hindu, ..." And then text needs to be either properly paraphrased, or correctly quoted. Please read over Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing.
  4. Mechanical errors. This is typical--errors in punctuation and capitalization.
  5. Grammar and syntax. Look at this one. Rewrite: "Barua also wrote the script and played the protagonist; the music director was Pankaj Mullick."

Here is the thing. One shouldn't expect to just land on an ongoing project that people have been working on for decades without expecting to have to do some work to get up to standards. But here is the other thing: if you work on these things, and if you thereby become a better Wikipedia editor, you will also become a better writer, and that is worth much more. Good luck. Drmies (talk) 15:12, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Now that they have finally responded, I am not opposed to giving the editor another chance, provided that we come to an agreement on how they work with prose. My concern is that when some editors' reading comprehension skills are not the strongest, they often don't know how to summarise content properly, because maybe metaphors, idioms, hyperbole, etc., are confusing, and the editor can't figure out a way to communicate the information without copying. I don't know. But obviously it's a problem. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:08, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I will follow Drmies and |Cyphoidbomb's advice, and also agree to work on my English more before trying to edit Wikipedia again. I hope next time I can do a better job (that will be my goal in this project). Thank you. Rondolinda (talk) 11:47, 7 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Drmies: If you're willing to lay down some ground rules about summarising, and proper sourcing guidelines, I endorse their unblock. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:02, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

List of schools

edit

I took a look at your contribution history and your recent contributions consist almost entirely of adding list of schools in Bangladesh. There is nothing notable about most of the schools added. I'm wondering if this is against WP:NOTCATALOG. The only source you cite is a white pages like directory listing like this. Since Cyphoidbomb had a look at your contribution history, maybe he can correct me if my assessment is incorrect.VR talk 18:09, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Vice regent: While I don't have extensive experience editing geographical articles, this tends to look like indiscriminate listing, contravening both WP:NOTCATALOG as well as WP:CSC which circles around the idea that if items are being added to "notable such-and-such" lists, like notable people of the region or notable businesses from the region, an article on the subject should already exist where notability has been adequately established. A few years ago, secondary schools were considered notable so long as you could prove they existed, but that changed in 2017 according to WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES, so most additions I see in their edit history would just be indiscriminate listings IMO. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:33, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the response Cyphoidbomb. It seems we are in agreement that these additions should not be on wikipedia. Should Rondolinda be asked to discontinue these edits? Should the additions be reverted? VR talk 18:52, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Unless Rondolinda can make an argument that there is a clear content guideline or policy that would justify the addition of these lists (unlikely) they probably should be removed. It would be nice if they did it themselves. This is is likely to be discouraging, so it would be nice to help steer Rondolinda into some editing areas that are constructive and that they find rewarding. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:14, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I will remove the lists and see where else I can continue to contribute that is helpful to the project. Rondolinda (talk) 02:02, 16 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
If you're interested in improving Bangladesh-related topics, consider joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh. If English isn't your first language, you may feel more comfortable editing at the Bengali-language Wikipedia. --Worldbruce (talk) 00:09, 23 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
