Relient K

edit

Shouldn't the new "Gold" albums be put into the discography since it's a re-release? Just a question, cause I look at the RK page every day and you seem to update it the most. DJREJECTED 20:13, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • That's a great idea to put it in the other. I'm going to go see them for the 8th time on the 22nd.DJREJECTED 00:03, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • It seems like you and I look at a lot of pages on here, like I noticed you were updating some of the Skillet pages and I am always looking at the Anberlin/Mae threads to see if I can update those. Anywho, they are the greatest band in the world, well I think so.
      • Quite funny, I was looking for that special block last week, I think I might have found it a while ago, now I'm going to have to try and find it again.
        • Done! I'm thinking about 72 hours for the block.

Howdy

edit

I do know the band (not personally, of course), but that isn't necessary to edit a page. Yes, singing while drumming is difficult (the drummer for the band did it for every song), but some of the comments that you added are totally not necessary. Yanksox 17:34, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I deleted the following (which are not necessary, I kept where he was from and where he currently lives): You left your user signature, He has a unique drumming style, and "gets into" his drumming more than the average drummer. He also sings many solos for the band, second only to the lead singer, Matt Thiessen," (there is a comment about a side project I'll put back up) and the comment about his wife (might put back up). So really it was that really long comment and the comment regarding drumming and singing. Yanksox 17:42, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

You also referred to him as "Dave" quite a few times. I'm not trying to take your article down, I just want to help tidy it up and present it in a slightly more academic manner. Yanksox 17:43, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Dave Douglas.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Dave Douglas.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:05, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Jon Schneck.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 18:13, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Uploading pictures

edit

Hi. First of all, the issue of what kind of images we can use here is not as simple and straightforward as one might like. Do not upload any more pictures until you read Wikipedia:Image use policy. Wikipedia is a project to create a free, reusable enyclopedia. Most images that one finds on the web are not suitable here. Photographs that you have taken, and that you are willing to license as free, reusable content are very welcome. In certain instances we may accept media under Wikipedia:Fair use, but most unfree content will be deleted. Wikipedia:Public domain resources lists some other ways to find free, reusable content that is not user-created. Jkelly 18:35, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

The correct template for Image:Dave Douglas.jpg is {{imagevio}}. Jkelly 18:53, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
No, that's not a joke. Did you take this photograph? Is there any suggestion at all that this photograph can be reused commercially, that derivative images can be made from it? I wasn't kidding when I said that most images you find on the internet cannot be used here. We're not interested in re-publishing content that infringes on copyright. Jkelly 19:26, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
If you think that they would be willing to license them under a free, reusable license, that would be great! See Wikipedia:Boilerplate request for permission for examples of what we need. If they agree, send their email to permissions at wikimedia dot org to be archived (unless they change their website to indicate the new license). Jkelly 20:36, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

As a user that keeps track of the Relient K articles, I realized that you correct many small mistakes of your own in subsequent edits. I just wanted to let you know that you can click "Show preview" (button immediately to the right of "Save page") to check for typos or to see if links work correctly before submitting your edit. This is more efficient, helps the WikiServer out and makes it easier for people like me to see the changes that you are making without delving through excess history pages. Other than that, thank you for contributing extensively and beneficially to these articles. Your knowledge is appreciated. —Akrabbimtalk 20:58, 26 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Penguin in The Dark Knight

edit

"This comes in from one of my best sources who previously gave up the scoop Katie Holmes and Ken Watanabe's casting in BEGINS, as well as confirming an offer had made to Ledger). Here goes: 'It seems Nolan has been listening to you guys when it comes to casting his other villain, however. I can confirm that an offer has been made to Phillip Seymour Hoffman for the role. Yet Hoffman has indicated that he may not get involved in the sequel.'" I assume this is the citation you are referring to about the Penguin. The information is not from a valid source; Batman-on-Film.com has reported on many possible players for the Joker, none of which panned out except for Ledger in the end. Please see the talk page about what editors have gone through regarding citations of anonymous "scoops". There is supposed to be an official press release from Warner Bros. tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, so more information may be revealed. Until then, there needs to be a more valid source about the Penguin and Hoffman than a "scoop" from Batman-on-Film. --Erik 05:33, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

JoBlo.com, Moviehole.net, CanMag.com, SlashFilm.com, Cinema Blend, IESB.net, ComicBookMovie.com all cite Batman-on-Film. It would be great if you found a source outside of Batman-on-Film that discusses the Penguin and Hoffman. I don't want to be anal; I just don't think the Wikipedia article needs to be breaking news about the movie, just well-informed. For example, Latino Review first announced that Heath Ledger was offered the role of the Joker, but the article didn't cite it as anything but a rumor until today. A link was only provided to quell the page edits that the announcement would obviously cause. --Erik 05:44, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Angry Badger Films

edit

A tag has been placed on Angry Badger Films, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable. If you can indicate why Angry Badger Films is really notable, you can contest the tagging. To do this, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and leave a note on Talk:Angry Badger Films, explaining how Angry Badger Films is notable. Image:Chad Butler.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Chad Butler.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 09:48, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

The message in the caption was added by me regarding your image. The image that you uploaded does not appear to meet the first of the fair use criteria since Relient K is still around and making public appearances. The new image may be deleted for not having a licensing tag. There are a few free images of Relient K available, but they seem to all be concert pics, many of which don't show the band (the best appear to be this and this). I'm going to add a free picture to the page and then email Bobbie Gale (Relient K's publicity manager) to see if it's possible to get a free promotional picture. Feel free to share any more comments or questions on my talk page. —ShadowHalo 00:21, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

You can request an admin to restore the article to your userspace if it doesn't survive the afd, so that you can expand it later. General Question

edit

I'm just looking over some of the pages I usually keep an eye on and have started noticing that fan sites are popping up more and more on artist pages. Is this a legitimate reference source to have an article linked to? Ldstryfe

I don't see how I can post on your discussion page, so I will do it right here. I'm not sure what articles you are referring to, but considering how many fansites have grown into something big, I think they are legitimate. The ones I would think of using are ones that have interviewed the artists/bands themselves, so I think that makes it all count.RoryS89 00:14, 1 May 2007 (UTC)RoryS89Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Ben_Kasica.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ben_Kasica.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 12:48, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I've responded at Image talk:Brian Pittman.jpg. Basically, our fair use arguments falls under "we should able to use this copyrighted image of him since free image of him is unavailable." With someone who's alive and just normally out there, that argument is a little thin. Have you considered asking the band if they are ok with an image of them (probably one from their website) being used? I have completed sourcing the article. I went through 50 pages of links in google. Luckily I found that they won a major award on about the 40th page, else I would have doubted their notability too. In the future I think you should be certain that you have numerous reliable sources BEFORE you start an article. I won't start an article without numerous reliable sources. There are several very notable racers from the 1980s that I haven't started articles on yet because I can't find numerous reliable sources. One won 7 major off-road racing national championships. Orphaned non-free image (Image:Eleventyseven1.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Eleventyseven1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Eleventyseven

edit

There was no assertion of notability in the article. As you may imagine, lots of articles about lots of bands get put on WP; we're an encyclopedia not an advertising or promotion venue. Myspace, which apparently this band is well aware of, is the perfect place for their article. We do have articles about notable bands: they must meet the criteria in WP:BAND, does eleventyseven meet those criteria. Can you write the article that has reliable indpendent sources, like newspapers, television or radio reporting about the band to show their notability? Have books been written about them? those could be cited too. If not, you should wait until Eleventyseven becomes notable enough that they do get the press coverage and books and then write an article about them. Carlossuarez46 19:26, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Those websites are not reliable independent sources; they apparently appear on Myspace, a far more popular website, but that too doesn't make them notable. If they're as big as claimed, why have they garnered no attention from newspapers or music magazines? Most newspapers have both a religion section and a "style/culture" section which would cover this genre of music. Carlossuarez46 20:17, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Please stop. If you continue to create inappropriate pages such as Eleventyseven, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. -WarthogDemon 16:47, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability of And the Land of Fake Believe

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on And the Land of Fake Believe, by WarthogDemon (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because And the Land of Fake Believe seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting And the Land of Fake Believe, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 17:06, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

DC aminated movies

edit

I'd suggest, quite seriously, make such a template. The marvel films are all united for a different reason. All the films there are from the newer produ tion series, all united under a similar production theme and style. if there were only Timm/Dini DC films, then adding them would make more sense, as they'd represent a similar theme and design. Given the variety seen in DC's films, I think they'd be better served on their own, esp. as it's likely that 'The Batman' franchie will continue to produce more DTV films. You've got a great deal of the work already completed, and can (and possibly should, for unity of design) easily copy the DC film template andjsut patch in the animation in place of the live actions. ThuranX 20:50, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you want me to look it over before it 'goes live', make it in a sandbox from your user page, then leave me a talk page message with a link , when it's ready. As for the Nolan animated Batman, (for lack of a better term), I'd suggest perhaps a Batman movie Franchise category, and put it there, its article should make clear the connection. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:HOH2.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:HOH2.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:54, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just wondering why you expanded the section on Dave Douglas leaving Relient K, with the quote, and almost direct quote from the press release that was on Jesusfreakhidout.com. The article was deleted because it didn't have a reliable source; namely, one that wasn't hosted by a RK blog. The article needs one from a recording company or a musical review. But more importantly, it was an album that isn't released yet, only announced. Wikipedia has strong policy on things that don't exist yet, if you want to look at them. File source problem with File:Who I Am 1.jpg

edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Who I Am 1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:07, 2 September 2009 (UTC). Speedy deletion nomination of At the Wake

edit

A tag has been placed on At the Wake requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.
