October music
In reply to September: so after the last concert, I had to write about that wonderful young woman (in red!) who energetically embraced her cello, and found that not only had she been a student of the academy, but also just in September started teaching where she had studied before. I'll try to say some of that in her DYK, but hard to say in 200 chars. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:37, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, she certainly did stand out in that red dress. And, of course, what a wonderful musician she must be. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:47, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- And I was blessed with tickets in a position for the pic ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:49, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, how fortunate! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:26, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- And in the meantime we had a great concert with another woman in red ;) - today, I met a black&white big cat in a road called Katzengraben (cat ditch) in Lorch, but that cat was fast, - the wine leaves didn't run away. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:08, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, red, indeed! Great photo of her. Katzengraben (cat ditch); hahahahaha; that's a funny name. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:27, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you! - Back to the cellist: did you see that her article now comes with a YouTube, same concerto same (red) dress? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:42, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- New day, another pictured DYK (but not pictured by me this time): look at power work tensions (if you translate) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:49, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- New day, and I learn something new from you again, Gerda Arendt. Have you attended one of the concerts inside the building? --Rosiestep (talk) 12:00, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- No, sadly I learnt about the festival only after its founder died - but I visited the museum with my father, an engineer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:52, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

today's DYK: two facts from the two concert of this years Rheingau Musik Festival I liked best, both a cappella singing. If you follow the songs, you see a circus, where I performed singing, and in the end the whole tent joined for Dona nobis pacem. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:34, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, Rheingau Musik Festival is so cool. Would love to attend something like that, but I don't think it's done in the U.S. Was it the first time you performed in a circus tent? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:54, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- yes - the circus festival is run biennially but the last two years nothing because of the pandemic, and before, it was the job of the children's choir every four years, because of Catholic - Protestant alternation. Only, the new conductor has first to make a new children's choir. In case he succeeds, it was also the last time of me performing, unless I count just going for the fun of it and joining in the rounds. Rheingau Musik Festival is unique in the world, with all these historic venues. I am a bit proud of having helped it a bit in the beginning, when posters were hung by volunteers, and I once had to show the 3 buses carrying the Dresdner Kreuzchor from the Youth Hostel in Frankfurt to Marktkirche, Wiesbaden during rush hour, - this was in the 1980s, so the choir still from East Germany, and I remember the relief when we managed in time. - This year, they returned, because boys' choirs were one of the themes. That's why Thomanerchor came, for their one and only concert outside Thuringia, - so we were blessed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:04, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- who shall separate us --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:07, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, that was quick, it being only a month since its debut. Cool. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:22, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
- That was slow, written the day after the debut. But the composer waited much longer ;) - today featured Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen, BWV 56! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:29, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, fast/slow; I guess we see thing differently. Just had a chance to look over Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen, BWV 56. Impressive! --Rosiestep (talk) 10:08, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- spa wellness: last day of the cantata, and two great musicians who died --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:56, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- Just learned about spa architecture, with thanks to you, Gerda. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:26, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- Did you also get to the woman, Galina Pisarenko? A bit sad that she had no article while she was alive. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:38, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt - Before, no; now, yes. Indeed, a bit sad. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:45, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- today a woman in red, cellist Ella van Poucke (to return to the beginning of this thread), with a video in the article --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:40, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt - Nice article; lovely red dress. Of course, it's also nice that on EN-WP, she isn't "in red" anymore. Noticed, too, that today's cat of the day has "gerda" in its file name; that wasn't intentional on my part, but nonetheless, put a smile on my face when I noticed it just now. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:52, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- that smile now travelled to my face ;) - did you see that she wore the same dress for the competition? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:00, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt Yes. Most of the women I write about have black+white or sepia images, if any image at all. Take, for example, the article I wrote today: Edith Julia Griswold. Can't ascertain much about what she's wearing. I wonder how she chose that dress when she was preparing for her portrait sitting. She was a lawyer, so probably picked something subdued. I'm assuming it wasn't red, but I certainly don't know. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:06, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- She wanted her profile to show ;) - When the cellist is playing you watch her face, not her dress, if you have such a face and expression, you can wear red without it taking away from what you are. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:14, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- ... followed by the new hall where she played - I always like to see my pics on the Main page, - then the mezzo of our Verdi concert, finally don't miss Hannah Pick-Goslar, - met a cat today, pictured, and there's one (the same) for Halloween, if you have no other plans yet, - that creature has light blue eyes! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:17, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Love the image of the Casals Forum; I bet the sound is exquisite. Glad to have learned about Hannah PG; thank you, Gerda. As for the cat with pumpkins -- cute photo. See how it's in the place of honor at the top of my talkpage! Also sorted out that Idstein is a town in Germany, and enjoyed checking out the photos of Unionskirche, Idstein. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:43, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- thank you!! - leaving the month with reformation and a cat treat - no surprise for you --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:18, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Problems with the Women in Red membership list
Hi Rosie. You have no doubt seen I've mentioned this on the WiR talk page. With all your high-level contacts, do you know of anyone who can either sort out the current problems so that they do not keep recurring or better still devise a new method of handling new registrations and maintaining active and inactive membership lists? Most of the names are in Category:WikiProject Women in Red members but only if members have included the WiR user box on thier user page. Before we run into any further problems, it would be good if we could also add this category to all of those on our mailing lists. Perhaps there's some easy way of doing this.--Ipigott (talk) 14:32, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Ian. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who can fix the issues associated with Project X's membership list. Except for Phabricator, to my knowledge, there's no centralized place on-wiki where one can log a technical issue that someone else will fix. Pinging @Headbomb and Tagishsimon who are more technical than I am. It may just be time to do away with the Project X's membership list, and move all the names (plus info) to a WiR subpage; this would be a lot of work but surely doable. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:17, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- Ser Amantio di Nicolao, if/when you have time/inclination, would you please add Category:WikiProject Women in Red members to the user talkpages (e.g., not the "Wikipedia talkpages") at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Outreach/A-F, Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Outreach/G-N, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Outreach/O-Z? Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:17, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry for being so late to the party on this, but I'm really not comfortable adding categories to users' talkpages without discussing it with them first - sorry. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:24, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oh my gosh, no worries, Ser Amantio di Nicolao. Thanks for thinking it through; your response makes so much sense. cc: Ipigott. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:52, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

I realize you were one of the most enthusiastic supporters of the contest I had hoped to run to attract new members. In the meantime, one of our most constructive editors has expressed strong opposition for reasons I do not really understand. In any case, I've now announced on the Ideas page that there's no point in holding the contest until we can sort out our membership listings. This should probably be announced in our November invitation. Hope you agree.--Ipigott (talk) 14:32, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think we need to announce in our Nov invitation that we are not running a contest. Within the broad wiki movement, editors discuss contests ALL the time; postponing or not moving forward with something that's been under discussion is not unusual. If/When WiR is ready to run a contest and has the meetup page set up, I think it will be sufficient to make the announcement on the monthly invitation prepared at that time. Would you remind me please regarding what problems have been encountered with the contest, e.g. no one wants to apply for a grant? lack of technical know-how/support in setting it up (e.g., like Wikipedia Asia Month)? If yes to either of these, I'd be happy to reach out to one or more Chapters to see if they have the bandwidth to assist (ping Gamaliel). --Rosiestep (talk) 16:17, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, Rosie, for responding to this. I really don't think it would be very instructive to go into the background on the contest. For me, what is far more important is the membership list. Perhaps we can wait a day or two to see if there are any more responses from those I pinged, but I really think we need to move away from the Project X approach. As Harej is not prepared to help us, I think we need to find another solution. Maybe you can find someone to help us along. For me, this is the most important matter in connection with Women in Red.--Ipigott (talk) 17:49, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- I'm still waiting to hear from MarioGom who has not been active since the 11th but if there is no response over the next couple of days, I think we should replace the current registration box with a link to a new page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members. It could be set up to list additions on a month-by-month basis, rather like our lists for new articles, etc. New members could simply add the four tildes and possibly express any special interests. This would at least ensure we are aware of new registrations. What do you think?--Ipigott (talk) 06:06, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Ian, I think WiR is ready for the change. It would probably be good to write up all the steps that have to happen (project plan) on the WiR talkpage and give an opportunity for other editors to comment and/or volunteer to help. Effective date of November 1st? --Rosiestep (talk) 11:25, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- I was actually thinking of quite simply removing the current registration box and replacing it with a link to the New members page. Rather than listing the steps, I think it would be simpler to create a draft of that page and ask for comments on our main WiR talk page. Unless we receive further reactions, I don't think there's much more we can do. I'll wait another couple of days and then create a first draft of the page. I agree we should introduce the change on 1 November. I might need your assistance in displaying the new registration link in the top RH corner of the main WiR page. I think it would be sufficient to have a clickable box with "Join Women in Red", e.g. by replacing the current template:WPX member box by Join Women in Red linked to the new page, correctly positioned and with a slightly larger font size. That should not be too difficult.--Ipigott (talk) 12:03, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- I think I can do that. If not, can ask for help. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:17, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I've always appreciated the way in which you make WiR pages look more attractive.--Ipigott (talk) 12:35, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

- I see there's some long discussions, but I couldn't read everything so far. Is there still any problem? Category:WikiProject Women in Red members is added by the user box, while Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Members is updated by a bot based on WikiProject cards (created by the join form). MarioGom (talk) 10:28, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi there, MarioGom. I think most of the conversation, problem documentation, etc. is on the WiR talkpage (and that's the best place for it, e.g. so it isn't fragmented). --Rosiestep (talk) 13:37, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for reporting back, MarioGom. As you know we've had problems with the old registration system for quite some time but thanks to you we've been able to use a simplified version. Now even that seems to have reached a limit. We've therefore decided to replace it with a more traditional approach which should avoid further problems. Any suggestions you may have in this connection would be welcome.--Ipigott (talk) 12:03, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
New members page
I've drafted a new members page at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members. Please feel free to redesign or edit as you wish. You'll see I've included new names for October thanks to the category check and the membership cards.--Ipigott (talk) 09:35, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for drafting it, Ipigott. I couldn't find any mention of it on the WiR talkpage but I probably just missed it. This looks splendid! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:39, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- I thought I would first give you a chance to make any changes, Rosie. As you appear to think it's OK, I'll post it on the WiR talk page and see what kind of reactions we get there.--Ipigott (talk) 14:03, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- In the absence of reactions, it might be useful if you could add a word of support on the main WiR talk page. I imagine that for those who are already members, arrangements for registering new members are of little interest. Roger might also like to comment or suggest improvements.--Ipigott (talk) 17:42, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

New membership link on the main WiR page
- Maybe, Rosie, it would be a good idea to substitute the new link on the main WiR page over the next few days rather than wait until 1 November. It would make it easier for us to identify new members and would also provide new members with evidence of their participation. But I'll leave it entirely up to you.--Ipigott (talk) 08:06, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Ok; makes sense, Ipigott. Maybe one of those "clickable" buttons? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:58, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, exactly. My problem is positioning it correctly.--Ipigott (talk) 15:58, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Ipigott I added an infobox at the top. Within it, add the clickable in data5=. Let me know if that works? --Rosiestep (talk) 16:21, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- It doesn't seem to be working for me. Can't you make "Join Women in Red" a clickable link? Then we also need to delete the other former links to Meet the participants, etc.--Ipigott (talk) 19:33, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Ipigott, yes, I can do that, and I'll do so now. Before someone deletes the link to Meet The Participants, don't we need to move all those names to Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members? Or where else would we see Members? --Rosiestep (talk) 19:39, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- This is all explained on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members. I therefore think it can be deleted from the main page. In future, I think we should increasingly rely on Category:WikiProject Women in Red members although I realize many members are not yet included there. Once everything has been set up successfully, we could suggest members should check to see if this category is included on their user page.--Ipigott (talk) 05:51, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- Ipigott, there are a lot of editors who don't want to add cats to their userpages. They feel it "outs" them; makes them uncomfortable. Ergo, IMO, we should not rely on it. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:08, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- While keeping close checks on membership since the beginning of the project, I have not experienced any dissatisfaction with our WiR membership category. For years it has been added automatically whenever users add the WiR user box. I'm not really worried about membership listings as (a) the old active member and non-active member lists can be preserved as archives and (b) we have the three mailing lists which contain the names of all those who have not specifically asked to be removed or who have removed their names themselves. Overall, I think we have a far better record of all those who have participated in the project than most other wikiprojects.--Ipigott (talk) 06:12, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- Ipigott, take a look now. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:48, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- It's coming on very well. Would it be possible to increase the font size on "Join Women in Red" so that it stands out more distinctly?--Ipigott (talk) 05:51, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- I've adjusted the font myself. I think it looks fine now.--Ipigott (talk) 08:38, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

- Ipigott, agree, the clickable looks fine. Hope it's visible enough so that those who wish to join, see it, click it, and add their names. One consideration to make membership more noticeable would be to make the infobox stand out more, e.g. changing headerstyle from #ABCDEF (periwinkle blue) to #32CD32 (a shade of green), #FFFF00 (yellow), #FF0000 (red) Personally, I like the green. Do you have thoughts on this? --Rosiestep (talk) 16:10, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- Not Ian, but that green is an excellent color and anytime you can throw more color on something I would approve. --ARoseWolf 16:27, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Agree with both of you that green would be good. Asareel is certainly one of the most color-conscious contributors I know. Will you delete the old link, Rosie, or should I? We don't need to cause any additional confusion.--Ipigott (talk) 17:49, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback WRT color, @ARoseWolf and Ipigott. That shade of green seems cheerful to me; hope it attracts more people to join WiR who stop by the mainpage (11,331 pageviews in the last 30 days!). I'm making the infobox color change now. Ian, regarding the deletion: the latter, please (you). --Rosiestep (talk) 19:52, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

In the meantime, I decided to change the WiR navigation template into shades of green (D0F0C0 and F0FFF0). ARoseWolf what do you think about these colors vs. what we were using (gray)? Also, do you prefer either of these green shades for the WiR mainpage infobox, instead of the #90EE90? Your expertise with color is so valuable. Am really interested in your point of view including if other options would be better. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:18, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- I love red but shades of green do it for me. Ha! Seriously though, I think having them how they are is perfect. That Nav template looks so good now. Green is such a strong color. I've always heard "thriving, not just surviving" when I see it. It is the color of life's essence. Each color of the Rainbow means something to me. It's a part of who each of us is. Simply stunning color choice, Rosie!! --ARoseWolf 20:33, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- ARoseWolf, thank you. I learn so much from your point of view. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:47, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- I just share it with anyone willing to listen. It's not right, it's not wrong, it's just Asareel. I'm thankful I have an opportunity to share small tidbits of who I am with such amazing people here. Thank you, Rosie and you too Ipigott. Such beautiful eyes on that tabby. My eye color ranges from a lighter brown, especially around the edges to a darker brown in the center. I've never seen it but my daughter and family tell me when I'm really focused on something my entire eye color changes to a very dark brown (I say out loud what I type and my daughter just quipped "almost black, Mama."). shrugs Another Asareel'ism. --ARoseWolf 20:56, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- I agree with ARoseWolf that green gives a much more positive look to Navigation. In future, when we draw attention to the need to recruit new members, we can simply refer to the green navigation box at the top of the WiR page. I also like the change to green in Template:Women in Red navigation.--Ipigott (talk) 06:37, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- @ARoseWolf and Ipigott, I'm so happy with your reactions. Back in the mid-1990s, when I was in school for my MBA, I took 1 or 2 classes in marketing, where I learned about the effects of color choices in marketing materials. I wish I had applied that learning -the positivity associated with green- before yesterday, but -you know what they say- better late than never. :)
- There are a few more areas where WiR has been uses periwinkle blue (e.g., our monthly invitation; the very top of the WiR mainpage; etc.), and I think in time, we'll want to change them to green. But I think to leave that for another day. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:47, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- And we may determine that there may be other suitable colors to use in those instances. Colors are as positive as we allow them to be and I always leave room that they can mean different things to different people. I do believe, deep in our psyche, there are root meanings that we don't always understand. I have seen some have a visceral reaction to certain colors and that sometimes denotes a traumatic experience they had. We associate colors with memories, thoughts, experiences. For me, I have two competing sides to this. One side associates words to colors and colors to tastes and smells. The other side associates colors to states of being, places we are, if that makes sense. More or less our state of being in that moment. Not feelings, which do tie into that but more as a consequence of our state. It's complicated and probably too much for a discussion on Wikipedia but it's me. Quite an enigma. --ARoseWolf 16:44, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi Adam, I thought this photo of Alice Brown (Library of Congress George Grantham Bain Collection) might interest you as the left side of her neck seems to be missing. No worries if you're busy with other photos. Rosiestep (talk) 18:14, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Looks fairly good, though I'd love to find a better copy. Smithsonian Institute has a really nice image, but it's hard to tell if it's out of copyright or not as it's very poorly documented. It MIGHT be PD-USGov, but I'd need to find a publication to know for sure. That has a n interesting note about The Black Drop, http://www.lib.luc.edu/specialcollections/exhibits/show/autograph-collection/alice-brown has a lot more information. Draft:Jordana Pomeroy
Hello, I appreciate your input. Would you kindly review this draft? Thanks again. Remia Zampa (talk) 20:56, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Remia Zampa, and thanks for stopping by. Sorry I can't be useful as I rarely deal with WP:BLP articles. But no worries! If you'll ask for input here, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red, you'll probably get a quick response as there are hundreds of respectful editors who watchlist that talkpage (3,535 pageviews in the last 30 days). Good luck, thanks for what you do around here, and happy editing! --Rosiestep (talk) 21:17, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, Chris troutman for the revert on my talkpage by that IP, and to you ARoseWolf for the same on Della Campbell MacLeod. Appreciate how swiftly you handled it! ♥ Rosiestep (talk) 20:27, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- I happened to be on patrol. Ha! Thanks, Chris and Rosie, for all you do to improve the encyclopedia. --ARoseWolf 20:30, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- ARoseWolf, patrol work is certainly vital! Glad you were on top of it. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:37, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Susan La Flesche Picotte
SusunW (and pagestalkers), while doing some gnome work on articles in Category:19th-century American women physicians, I came across the biography of Susan La Flesche Picotte, an "Omaha Indigenous physician and reformer". Two things caught my eye, "She is widely acknowledged as one of the first Indigenous peoples, and the first Indigenous woman, to earn a medical degree."
, and that the article received 4,295 pageviews in the past 90 days. Currently, it's rated B-class. Figuring that the topic might interest you, and knowing that you're adept at GA work, I thought I'd mention it, but no worries if you're busy with other things! --Rosiestep (talk) 17:40, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Have a lot on my plate right now, but I'll put it on the never-ending list. ;) SusunW (talk) 14:07, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, SusunW. I know you are super busy. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 17:53, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- She was an amazing woman. Her article was brought to my attention over a year ago after I wrote a short article on Isabel Cobb, another amazing Indigenous woman that became a doctor around the same time. She enrolled at WMC of Pennsylvania a year before Picotte graduated and graduated herself in 1892. I am mesmerized by their tenacity and fortitude. --ARoseWolf 16:46, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Tenacious, indeed, ARoseWolf. What a cool article on Isabel Cobb. These women inspire me. While she's not Indigenous, a couple of days ago, I also made a contribution to Category:19th-century American women physicians: Anna Manning Comfort. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:53, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Truly amazing. Their lives are so inspiring. With all that we are afforded today, and I know there is still work to be done, what excuse do we have to not achieve great things and reach to become the best version of ourselves? --ARoseWolf 18:21, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- ARoseWolf, aspiration: best version of ourselves. ♥ --Rosiestep (talk) 14:14, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- We should always strive to be the best example of ourselves today, never let that be mistaken, but the beautiful thing about being human is if we fail today we have another opportunity tomorrow. Make every opportunity count for something! --ARoseWolf 15:35, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Juneau Raptor Center
You and I discussed the article, Juneau Raptor Center, (JRC) years ago. Sadly, there has been a development. I made changes to the JRC page, and subsequent changes to the related Lady Baltimore (bald eagle) page. I thought you might wish to see both, for details.Juneau Mike (talk) 23:06, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, Mike, I do remember... it was back in 2013. So sad that the center had to close for all the reasons stated. I wonder how the raptors will handle the move and how long it will take for them to feel settled in their new home. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:14, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- The Alaska Raptor Center has a great reputation, and Sitka is just a very short flight from Juneau. I suspect the eagles will be fine. Lady Baltimore is getting on in years, though. I wish her a long life, but I wouldn’t expect her to live more than another 5-6 years, sadly.Juneau Mike (talk) 18:46, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Juneau Mike, oh no, this is terrible. Sitka isn't very far away but definitely fly there instead of taking the ferry. I so hope they can come back next year though. Lady Baltimore is something of a celebrity in the area. --ARoseWolf 19:21, 1 November 2022 (UTC)

November music
celebrating GW60 or: the birthday of my first subject -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:26, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Nice, Gerda Arendt. Happy Bday to him. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:02, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- will tell him at the big concert on Saturday, - I wrote about his mother, and it's all puzzle, I found not a single bio anywhere, no date and place and name of birth. I can ask him, but spoken son's word is no reliable source :) - I didn't see her often, yes for the wedding, - last time was after a concert when piano pieces dedicated to G.A. and E.W. were played, and she said that mine was more beautiful :) - well, there's no not W in music, while G and A sound interesting. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:17, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, the picture you added is so beautiful. I really love the deep colors. Happy Bday to GW! I'm becoming more accustomed to celebrating birthdays. It's not something we really did growing up. --ARoseWolf 15:54, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

- Gerda Arendt, not often that I create a woman's biography associated with opera in some way, but here's one, Mary Lewis Langworthy, who did a lot of things in her day, including writing the libretto for Elijah, a religious opera in 6 scenes, being a dramatization of Mendelssohn's oratorio (1921). --Rosiestep (talk) 19:12, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- Interesting, I checked it out, revert what you do't like. - The music was great, and with another woman in red pictured. It will take some time to add pics to artist's bios and some first need to be written. His mother will be 90 in February, and was there! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:01, 6 November 2022 (UTC)

- Gerda Arendt, 3 in 3; that's a lot! I'm sure it's enjoyable but also, making time for rest? --Rosiestep (talk) 12:13, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- rest, sort of, slept twice on the flight to friends in the U.S., now in jet lag, morning coffee when it would have been noon yesterday, - met a black cat when arriving in the dark, but too fast and dark to photograph, - perhaps I'll get a chance over the week here. - All three concerts were of the "once in a lifetime"-sort and required travelling as well which was more exhausting than listening which was pure joy for all. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:07, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, finding balance... I guess that's the trick. Hope you enjoy the coffee here, and that the weather is suitable for the activities you'll be doing, and that you have a fabulous visit! If/When you have time and inclination, would you please reivew my translation of it? Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:19, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
Just hi from another native Hoosier
Hi, Rosie! I was tidying up my own categories, using you and others for examples, and noticed you were also born in Gary. I grew up in Hobart, Indiana, which didn't get a hospital until the year after my birth. Our senior prom was at St. Sava's in Merrillville. That's the extent of my connection to Serbia, as my heritage is from Western Europe. See you around the wikis! KarenJoyce (talk) 23:34, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- That is super cool, KarenJoyce! We moved to Los Angeles when I was 3.5 so I have no memory of Gary but I retain my claim to being a Hoosier. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 15:49, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
Great to meet you at the WikiMedia Foundation event in Silicon Valley!
Happy that I had the chance to meet you this week, Rosie, and share my excitement about the WiR community and the support we received from Ipigott as Jump4130 and I were creating articles on women social entrepreneurs such as Maryana Iskander and Quratulain Bakhteari.JRandomF (talk) 16:25, 11 November 2022 (UTC)

Yesterday, we sang Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme twice, after a short trip to Paris with great opera and symphony, - enjoy! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:27, 5 December 2022 (UTC) Happy birthday, Rosie! (I could tell be the cat. You could tell my friend's birthday by yesterday's version of my talk ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:00, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, Gerda. I thought that cat and hat were just right for today. Lucky you... trip to Paris! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:38, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Lucky, just the return was less lucky as the train in the evening was cancelled due to a strike, all others that evening booked, which resulted in a bus ride ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:51, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Only now has it occurred to me that the pic set contains roses, fit for your birthday yesterday. No cat, but heron and peacocks --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:48, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
- This one, "Roses and Ginkgo, Paris", is my fav, Gerda. What a beautiful view of one moment in nature. I made it my desktop background for the day. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:13, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
- that's the one I meant --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:51, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
- Today, we sing for a Marian feast, I learned that Yvonne Ciannella died, the soprano who impressed me in my first night at the opera, and as she died in March, sadly no Main page reverence is possible, - at least she had a good DYK, at a time when opera singers were considered interesting. I'm proud today that Christiane Hörbiger made it to that corner, and happy that we celebrate the birthday of Jean Sibelius again. - I heard an excellent Christmas concert yesterday, by Tenebrae, and a short excerpt of only the women singing "Deo gracias" is also linked from my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:35, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- A lot to look at, Gerda. You've been busy. Good work. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:41, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda - Enjoyed learning about Christiane Hörbiger; may she RIP. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:04, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you! - Today was a day rich in music, with two new pictures, and also rich in WP:QAI contributions on the Main page: the TFA, 2 DYK and 2 RD with members as principal editors. The church pictured there (not by me, nice snow dust and tall evergreen) comes with memories, detailed on my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:15, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- Latest pics, with an opera discovery and some snow. Today my talk] has a DYK that was planned for 22 November, among the recent deaths the author of Duck, Death and the Tulip, and now a choir pic of "our" concert last Sunday, likely to become next year's lead image. Enjoy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:33, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt - Now I know about Kathleen Ferrier; died so young. (Looked at the other articles and images, too. Thanks.) --Rosiestep (talk) 21:15, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you. Ferrier: I nominated her for a repeated TFA on her birthday last year, but then saw that the 110th birthday was this year. However, then we had instead a singer with a birthday who is still alive, and next year there's something else, - a bit chilling to make plans for 2024 :) - Only today I realised that she sang that premiere already between cancer treatments, and the composer ranked the collaboration (with her and his partner) the best of his life. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:22, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- Today, pictured, the soprano of our choral concert of the year. More in the context: User talk:Gerda Arendt#DYK for Talia Or, in case of interest. - Enjoy the season! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:50, 26 December 2022 (UTC)
- Glad to learn about Talia Or. Thanks, Gerda Arendt. Hope you're having a merry, happy holiday week! --Rosiestep (talk) 17:11, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

Wishing Rosiestep a very happy birthday on behalf of the Wikipedia Birthday Committee! Don't forget to save us all a piece of cake!--ARoseWolf 15:42, 5 December 2022 (UTC) |
A personal note: You are so loved and appreciated for all the hard work to improve the encyclopedia and our experience here in this community. You are an inspiration to so many women editors. I am so honored and privileged to have been able to listen to your sweet and lovely LifeSong over the last two+ years. You inspired me to keep pushing through a very difficult time, to keep fighting for life when I so easily could have given up. Thank you and I hope you have such a beautiful day full of colorful rainbows and wrapped in sunshine, no matter what the weather looks like outside. Happy Birthday, Rosie! --ARoseWolf 15:42, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you Asareel. Such a beautiful note; I am humbled and honored by it. The feeling is mutual; I am inspired by you and your heartfelt cheer and how you see the other side of rainbows. And oh yes to cake! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:38, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Hey! I am not sure how active the efforts are to create female biographies these days, but I am hoping someone can create one for my sister. Because of WP:COI, I am unable to create the page myself. Here are some of today's press coverage:
-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:35, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, TonyTheTiger; great to hear from you! Big congrats to your sister! As I tend to focus on historical women rather than BLPs, I notified Women in Red about Carla and I hope someone else creates the article. In any case, I'll keep an eye on this one. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:50, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

Getting close
It's getting close to my time to hibernate. I don't know exactly when that will be but I will thoroughly miss your cat pictures. I imagine I have a about two weeks but our fuel gauge is really the indicator for that. We have to especially conserve fuel for January and February which are our coldest and harshest months and we have burned a lot of fuel the past two months due to the waning daylight and my daughters insatiable desire for Youtube videos and movies. It's always hard to leave and it's possible I might can sneak on a few times a month during that time but I believe the break always does me some good. It gives me time to evaluate the past year's experiences here and really retune my understanding of what our purpose, my purpose is on Wikipedia. --ARoseWolf 17:28, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- I think it is actually healthy to take a wikibreak, ARoseWolf, though your reason, like you, is unique. I hope the time away will be lovely. Good books, a few games, tasty meals, warm socks, and hugs. I will miss you being here, but I think I will still feel your presence -if that makes sense- as I feel a special connection with you. As for the cats, they won't disappear. :) Maybe they'll even make it over to your page from time to time. Happy holidays, my friend, and wishing you all the best during your break. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:09, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- It makes perfect sense to me. I "feel" each of you through your words and they are part of me now so "you" will be with me. I would very much enjoy some of the cats making their way to my talk page. You are so important to me, like the earth needs the rays of the sun and waters from the rain. I sing over you, my friend, a song of love, peace and joy. --ARoseWolf 19:37, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- ARoseWolf, I'll make sure they don't cause any trouble while visiting. ;) --Rosiestep (talk) 21:15, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- Rosie and SusunW, a very balmy -33°f registered this morning and another day rolls on. You both are such beautiful contributors here and I really appreciate all that you do. Hope you both are well and staying away from bugs, especially the severe ones. --ARoseWolf 20:37, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- ARoseWolf good to see you here. Recovered now from the bug that was plaguing me for a week. Wishing you both a lovely holiday. Thanks for making me smile. SusunW (talk) 20:53, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- SusunW, glad to know that you've recovered. Bugs seem to be hitting people really hard this year. Hoping you've managed to avoid them, ARoseWolf; I'm grateful that they haven't bothered with me -at least yet- this season. I had to look twice at the temp that you wrote, Asareel, to grok that there's a minus sign; OMG cold! Here, it's lovely: sunny and 52°F. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:42, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, well, I was trying to play nice, but neither of those temperatures look lovely to me. It's 28°C/82°F and sunny here, thankfully. I do hope you both stay well. This bug was bad. SusunW (talk) 22:50, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Rosie, I just popped in here to thank you for being such an amazing human being. You are one of those I call friend here because I feel we have kindred spirits. I appreciate you and value you more than words can justify but understand that the full weight of everything that I am is behind each letter and each syllable. I wish for you a very prosperous, healthy, and joyful year ahead. --ARoseWolf 19:21, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, dear ARoseWolf; wishing you all the same. You'll be on my mind while you're gone, especially while I sit back each day around 3pm enjoying a cup of tea. I'll picture you in a winter-wonderland. Know that I look forward to your return in the spring!! --Rosiestep (talk) 20:38, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

Happy holidays!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, Rosie!
The other day, I was having a conversation with someone about holiday cards and social media. It occurred to me that, in the years since I left Facebook, the site I use most to communicate with people I like isn't actually a social media site at all. If you're receiving this, it's pretty likely I've talked with you more recently than I have my distant relatives and college friends on FB, at very least, and we may have even collaborated on something useful. So here's a holiday "card", Wikipedia friend. :) Hope the next couple weeks bring some fun and/or rest. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:36, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks so much, Rhododendrites. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you as well! Love the image. Look forward to working with you next year. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:41, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- And all the best from me too, Rosie, for enjoyable end of year festivities. As always, it's been great collaborating with you and I look forward to continuing along the same lines next year.--Ipigott (talk) 16:48, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, and wishing you the same, Ipigott! Looking forward to continuing our collaborations next year! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:51, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

Invitation to organize Feminism and Folklore 2023
Dear Rosiestep/Archive 62,
Christmas Greetings and a Happy New Year 2023,
You are humbly invited to organize the Feminism and Folklore 2023 writing competition from February 1, 2023, to March 31, 2023. This year, Feminism and Folklore will focus on feminism, women's issues, and gender-focused topics for the project, with a Wiki Loves Folklore gender gap focus and a folk culture theme on Wikipedia.
You can help Wikipedia's coverage of folklore from your area by writing or improving articles about things like folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, women and queer folklore figures, folk game athletes, women in mythology, women warriors in folklore, witches and witch hunting, fairy tales, and more. Users can help create new articles, expand or translate from a list of suggested articles.
Organisers are requested to work on the following action items to sign up their communities for the project:
- Create a page for the contest on the local wiki.
- Set up a fountain tool or dashboard.
- Create the local list and mention the timeline and local and international prizes.
- Request local admins for site notice.
- Link the local page and the fountain/dashboard link on the meta project page.
This year we would be supporting the community's financial aid for Internet and childcare support. This would be provided for the local team including their jury and coordinator team. This support is opt-in and non mandatory. Kindly fill in this Google form and mark a mail to support@wikilovesfolklore.org with the subject line starting as [Stipend] Name or Username/Language. The last date to sign up for internet and childcare aid from our team is 20th of January 2023, We encourage the language coordinators to sign up their community on this link by the 25th of January 2023.
Learn more about the contest and prizes on our project page. Feel free to contact us on our meta talk page or by email us if you need any assistance.
We look forward to your immense coordination.
Thank you and Best wishes,
