Speedy deletion of Image:No Surrender .JPG

edit

A tag has been placed on Image:No Surrender .JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:No Surrender .JPG|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File source problem with File:My father. My king.JPG

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:My father. My king.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:36, 12 May 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 12:36, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:NoSurrender.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:NoSurrender.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 12:39, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to Arthur Benjamins, but we cannot accept original research. Original research also encompasses novel, unpublished syntheses of previously published material. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your information. Thank you. kollision (talk) 14:41, 17 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The problem is that unless you are Arthur Benjamins, you can't just come over here and declare that his work is released to the public domain. We would need a statement from the copyright holder indicating what images were to be released, and the specific licensing terms under which they would be released, sent to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. Without that, the images will continue to be deleted as copyright violations. I'm sure you understand that we can't just take any anonymous posting on our web site as a legitimate copyright release; if we did, we'd have been shut down a long time ago. {{unblock|Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope I have the correct opening to request being unblocked. I have tried to find the correct forum to register my request but could find nothing that would allow this, so please accept my apologies if this is incorrect and forwarding my request to the correct forum page would be a great assistance.

In the meantime, I have contacted user Eskog and explained the great difficulties I encountered with the legal maze, combined with the confusing manner in which rules and regulations have been stated. I await a reply.

permissions-en@wikimedia.org are also up to date as to the difficulties encountered.

Although I never set out to 'vandalise' or be 'disruptive', I apologise for any trouble caused and trust that the replies I hope to receive will assist me in becoming a successful Wiki-contributor.

Thanking you in advance,

Yours sincerely,

References and citations

edit

Hi. You asked, I note that you have placed an objection in Arthur Benjamins. Could you please explain in non-jargon terms, what you are referring to?

Click on the underlined links in the box I put there. Wikipedia requires verifiable and reliable sources for all articles. In the aforementioned article, there is nothing to indicate where all of this information about Mr. Benjamins comes from; there is no way for a reader to go to the original sources and make sure that the Wikipedia article is accurate.

There are a lot of other problems in that article as well. Wikipedia has a very strong policy mandating a neutral point of view. Material such as, Perhaps giving birth to an entire new movement, his new range of other works could well be described as Abstract Iconography - a new genre addition to the art strata, which has remained stagnant for over ten years is not encyclopedic; it might be suitable for a gallery catalog, but not for Wikipedia. Now, if it said something like "Mr Famous Art Critic says that Mr. Benjamin's new range of works perhaps gives birth to an entire new movement", it would be far more acceptable; as it is, it appears Wikipedia is saying this about Mr Benjamin, but Wikipedia does not make such assertions; it instead quotes those who do.

As it is, this article reads like it was written either by Mr. Benjamin or Mr. Benjamin's publicist, which would also not be acceptable on Wikipedia. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 22:29, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

re. Arthur Benjamins

edit

I see your point and to that effect I have removed all ( I hope) of the comments that were considered contentious. The changes have also been added in the 'Edit Summary' box. The 'verifiabe' and 'reliable' sources query...has that been cleared? Mr. Benjamins or his publicist I aint, but just an enthusiast of his works and as such, I may have been perhaps too enthusiastic in my writings of him but as this is my first Wiki project - and hope to continue his Wiki site and to write more - I welcome all constructive criticism. If any contentious material remains in the article, I would appreciate your input. One of the tasks before me is to find out how to legally return the deleted images. I will try to find out via permission-en@wikimedia.org but I would be happy to listen to an alternative way.

Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello Rotterdam1953! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 6 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Problems with upload of File:EXPHRASIS.JPG

Thanks for uploading File:EXPHRASIS.JPG. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

File permission problem with File:EKPHRASIS.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading File:EKPHRASIS.JPG, which you've attributed to Arthur Benjamins. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:57, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
