Adoption
Do you feel inclined to adopt any more wikiurchins at this juncture? I'm looking out for someone to show me the ropes, and saw your listing on the adopters list. I've been kicking around here since January and, though I don't spend prodigious amounts of time editing, working on the backlog at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors brings me frequently in contact with articles and users whose issues are rather knottier than a mere misplaced semicolon. And resorting to {{helpme}} every time I have a question makes me feel like Penelope Pitstop. If you would be interested in getting involved, please do just drop me a line. Many thanks. Trouting
Yes, I desrved that. But that Helpme had been sitting in #wikipedia-en-help for over 30 minutes and nobody was lifting a finger, just like what always happens with helpme tags. (P.S., how do you get that "don't panic"message to show up when I make a new section?) Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells • Otter chirps • HELP) 22:13, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Canada Portal
Hello there. It would be good to have activity on the portal again. It had been featured once. Then totally died. I changed it to rotate and import the news. Then a lo-o-o-ng topics list was added, and the front page was s-o-o-o-o- long, so I recently added the tabbed feature to help the longness of the first page a bit. Please do change the portal if you can. The colour scheme is the one from whence it began eons ago. Maybe if it is tweaked a bit, it can be re-applied for feature status, but I think a few rotating pictures in the intro and maybe a couple more rotating intros would help as well. I look forward to seeing your proposals! I was thinking that because the stylized maple leaves have been added to the templates (me thinks you helped out with this aspect), maybe they could be added to the box headers as well??? or just the title header??? Kind Regards SriMesh | talk
- BTW Save yourself some typing, if you want to make the changes directly on the portal go ahead, it would be good to have a facelift to the portal :-)
- Cool, I'll peek in once in a while...will putter at another portal while you are there... Another BTW...I see on your talk page you have some practice with tabbing features. Would there be an easy way of getting the DYK from the main page to peek into the projects tab as well.... or do they have to be all reformatted for the projects page starting with Portal:Canada/Wikiprojects/Selected Did you know/1...etc. As they currently all begin with...Portal:Canada/Selected Did you know/1...etc....and they don't seem to open in the projects tab thingie. Txs. SriMesh | talk 01:58, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hello there. I like your scrolling thingie for the Topics of Canada that helps a lot. It is good to have the little stylized leaf in the title. I love your little show another just to get one article or picture to change, rather than the entire page. It will take me a while to get used to so much red gone, as I associate red to Canada cause of the flag, would it be OK to add a teeny tiny bit more red? I like the addition of Maintained by WikiProject Canada rather than the List of basic Canada topics as that in the title seemed to re-do the topics tab. Do you think that more statistics should be added to the topics tab. Some featured placename portals are doing the symbols or statistic thingie such as national bird, flower, etc....like Portal:Minnesota/Symbols or Portal:Indiana. Some other placename portals are adding attractions as well. What thinks you of adding these types of things to Portal:Canada? SriMesh | talk 03:51, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- Oh yeah! One more thing. It is nice to have someone to talk to portals about. When the Canada portal began it had nominate and it ran OK in that format for a while so long as there was blood to nominate articles etc and someone to change the nominated articles monthly, but the portal remained static for a loong time and died when the active members became busy elsewhere. So I changed it to rotate so that even if the active members do abandon the project, the portal still has some changes going on until the next active member arrives. However, the portal is a bit crazy now, as the options in each box portal section still honour the Archive/Nominations from a long time agao, and the box sections also show the More Articles... for the new rotating aspect. As there is a new nomination section at the bottom of the rotating More Articles page, and all the previous nominations from Archive/Nominations have been rotated into the More Articles. Do you think it would be plausible to delete the Archive/Nominations page and references to Archive/Nominations. What is your humble opinion on this? I didn't want to make too many changes unilaterally when I changed to rotate. Kind Regards me again. SriMesh | talk 04:00, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- All the randoms I have used previously are random...like 2-5-3-1-4. Oh yeah... Another Oh yeah :-) Another query. My newest box section was to add the feature articles, as that seems to be something suggested at portal peer review. We (Canada wikiproject assessment department) have over 50 FA and over 50 FL. Is the box section on FA the smoothest way to show the Canadian over 50 FA's or should it be smooshed into categories or sections of FA articles? Or is it fine as is?

- On the projects page where the Canada flag image lives I would think a rotating pic would be nice there or another DYK section, as the quantity of Canadian DYK hooks is quite lengthy and grows by a few every month. This would be something small, about the same size as the existing flag picture. So it wouldn't need to be a featured picture as on the main page, just a picture to add an image to the WP page. Maybe rotating Canada maps or something like that. On the intro section I think a rotating pic would be nice there. I tried to do this on Portal:Saskatchewan after its peer review, and haven't yet done Portal Canada yet....A rotating picture in rotating intros gives a nice fresh look, and helps a lot IMHO. KInd Regards again me. SriMesh | talk 04:10, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- Before I pack it in for tonight...Do you think the pink of the title section could be toasted, as I don't think the pink is really a pre-requisite for the Canada portal, I just didn't know what colour to change to off of pink. I will have another peek tomorrow. Kind Regards and awesome changes BTW. Here is a barnstar to you, and I used your wonderful star in the template. Thank you!!!SriMesh | talk 04:24, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

- Well I did peek again today. That is a unique concept for the symbols addition, another box section which rotates. Did you want to use a unique rotater to add maybe 2 or 3 each rotating symbols to the box section. There is an example of plunking 3 DYK randomly here...Portal:Arctic/Selected Did you know I can help tomorrow adding some symbol articles in if it will help .... Kind regards me SriMesh | talk 05:19, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the barnstar! I'll get to all your other questions, but for the DYK: I'd like to just code a {{#switch}} function to grab three random DYK from the list every time the page is loaded. This makes it easier to add them (just add a new one to the bottom of the list to put it in rotation), as well as makes sure that readers don't see the same three coming up together each time--it'll always be different.
- As far as the symbols go... yes please, I'd love help adding them all in. List of Canadian provincial and territorial symbols is a good starting point. I figure if we use the image and the first couple of sentences from the lead of each symbol article, we should be good. There's a layout template to use. [ roux ] [x] 06:36, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm working on a new way of nominating new content for the portal, so we can remove those 'nomination' links from the boxes, or at least make them less obtrusive. [ roux ] [x] 16:27, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Holidays - stats in Canada
Hello there...started a list here..User:SriMesh/sandbox/stats... .I kept finding provincial/territorial ones which overlapped, so put them in the top by months, then sorted it out by the west, and the Yukon....will keep puttering away at the list. Have also given web site URLs for referencing if needed. User:SriMesh/sandbox/stats SriMesh | talk 01:41, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Time for resolution
Hiya. For several months now, the article naming for 18th Century British royals has been ever-which-where — all over the shop. In an attempt to solve this, I have prepared a page for discussion: here. Please, please, please come and discuss, even contribute to the Poll. Cheers! DBD 15:34, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Valois bourbon
Valois bourbon is doing rapid, extensive editing of such articles as Left-wing, Liberalism, and Conservatism. Several people have requested that he slow down and discuss things on the talk page, but he strongly believes his views are correct and opposing views are "nonsense". He could be a valuable contributor to Wikipedia, I think, if someone could help him see that rapid, major, unilateral edits are not the best way to edit. Can you help? Rick Norwood (talk) 18:25, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
I asked you because you had a post on his page asking him to slow down a bit. Rick Norwood (talk) 19:38, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's more than fair to say your inserts that "the left is a human right movement" are "non-sense". Left-wing refers to political positions. You seem to have attacked me in multiple talk pages: please don't take personally if other editors question some inserted statements, no one has problems with well-referenced statements in appropriate locations. I hope to see you improving Wikipedia!Valois bourbon (talk) 21:30, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Gentlemen, please keep your disputes off my talk page. If this is a dispute stretching across multiple pages, might I suggest that you both enter into mediation? [ roux ] [x] 21:41, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
I don't there's any serious dispute. Just commented when he seemed to attack other users here.Valois bourbon (talk) 22:57, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello
Hello. You stated with this edit it was an unexplained reason for me removing. I'd like to assure you that was an accident. Also, with your accusations, I'd like to point out I was going to forget about any of my previous edits and start again from scratch. I know I can do that, as it states I can with this essay.--Supersonic Pokémon (contact me) (global contributions and blocks) (local contributions and logs) (Barnstars) 17:48, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Dignity Article
I have just received a message from you stating that the user Pyrrhon8 has taken the mediation case elsewhere. At the same time I had just posted a rather involved response to Pyrrhon8 on the mediation part of the discussion page. Apologies, but I am quite new to this and I am not familiar with the process. Where has this discussion been taken to? And how would I be able to contribute further to the case? Many thanks. Cicero79 (talk) 19:15, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Cicero79

Navigation shortcuts
Roux... hello - I happened to notice your post on TheDJ's page. I've had good success with the "Navigation shortcuts" monobook code. It isn't a popup, per se, but it does add a panel to the left-hand column (under "toolbox" in my layout) that displays user-selectable internal links. Hope this helps. Cheers. --Ckatzchatspy 19:58, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Canada Portal DYK
Hi Roux! Did I do okay here? I couldn't figure out the fancy push button mechanism to suggest a new one but then again, it says it isn't fully functional. Cheers! DoubleBlue (Talk) 21:03, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, I started to go through that way now but then I noticed it says it has to have been accepted by WP:DYK but I've only just suggested it to them. I thought this was a separate process. DoubleBlue (Talk) 21:26, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
