Guideline and policy news
- A request for comment concluded that creating pages in the portal namespace should be restricted to autoconfirmed users.
- Following a request for comment, the subject-specific notability guideline for pornographic actors and models (WP:PORNBIO) was removed; in its place, editors should consult WP:ENT and WP:GNG.
Technical news
- XTools Admin Stats, a tool to list admins by administrative actions, has been revamped to support more types of log entries such as AbuseFilter changes. Two additional tools have been integrated into it as well: Steward Stats and Patroller Stats.
Arbitration
- In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases,
the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions
; administrators found failing to have adequately done sowill not be resysopped automatically
. All current administrators have been notified of this change. - Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.

- A request for comment is currently open to amend the community sanctions procedure to exclude non XfD or CSD deletions.

Boston Light Opera
In regard to your comment on Draft:Boston_Light_Opera_(1970s) -- thanks for your input on the ongoing discussion. - Hi, and thanks for your note. You are correct, there's nothing else that's required from you. But my suggestion is that you keep looking for better sources; that's really what's going to make the difference here. Take a look at WP:RS to see what makes a good source in general, and WP:ORGCRIT for a more specific discussion of how this applies to organizations. Unfortunately, there's a lot of ambiguity in the review process which isn't always made clear in the written guidelines. The three Boston Globe articles certainly meet the stated requirements of significant, independent, reliable, and secondary. The problem that I have with them (and I think a lot of other people have) is that 1) they're all from the same paper, 2) the paper is local, and 3) they're not actually about the opera company, they're about performances that the company gave. If you could find coverage in media outside of Boston, that would help, as would finding coverage in multiple media outlets. A discussion of the opera company, apart from a review of any specific performance, would also be useful. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:40, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

- Another thought: It might be interesting to add to the draft a list of notable alumni (i.e. people who were members of the company and we now have articles about). For example, Walter Pidgeon[1]. I did this with SoHo Weekly News. Please note that having a list of notable alumni doesn't guarantee that the draft will be accepted, but it does add something, and in the course of researching this, you may also find some better sources for the company as a whole. - @Rmosutton: RoySmith pinged me to the discussion. What we're reviewing on is whether the article would be "likely kept" at a deletion discussion, and for the reasons RoySmith has discussed above, neither of us are sure. To be fair, this is not a bad result - neither one of us rejected the article outright, which we would have done if it were clearly non-notable. And I haven't actually been able to review the Globe sources, but rather some of the other sources, including the MIT Student paper, and also found them to be reviews of performances. The Quincy newspaper might be the source I'd be happy with (Hatfield article), but neither of us have the capacity to review it. SportingFlyer T·C 17:50, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you both, most kindly. First, I should mention that Walter Pidgeon was not associated with this Boston Light Opera, but rather one 60 years earlier, in the 1910s, that barely existed a year. I know that doesn't help, but for facts' sake I should mention it. - That's interesting about the two Boston Light Opera companies. It certainly explains why the original title had "(1970)" in it! The usual convention is that we would only include a disambiguating phrase like that in the title if there were articles on both companies. For now, we would just use the base Boston Light Opera, and if an article ever got written about the other one, we'd probably do something like title that one Boston Light Opera (1910), rename this one to be Boston Light Opera (1974), and use Boston Light Opera as a WP:DAB page. That gives rise to another thought; sometimes if there's multiple topics that aren't notable on their own, it may be possible to write a combined article that covers them all. So, perhaps History of light opera in Boston, which covers both of these companies, and maybe others which have existed over time? Toby Woolf
Hi Roy, you closed down the page for Toby Woolf. I don't know how to post a link to the page. Toby is my 10 year old son. I am not a wiki-expert, just a Mum who has been asked by his agent to set up a wikipedia page for him as he's a young actor, who has been in 2 dramas - one on BBC and one on Sky TV. He is about to star in a very big production on BBC and has a lead role in an upcoming film which has an A list cast.
Toby is currently quoted a lot in the UK Press and his TV show - Summer of Rockets is about to air on BBC. It (and Toby) will be featured in all the weekend papers.
I am not a wikipedia expert; I just want his information correctly portrayed. Please can you reinstate his page. I would have really liked for it to be up and running this weekend. I had not idea it was up for discussion for deletion or I would have been in touch sooner. Thanks so much.

Recent changes
- The report for phase 1 of the talk pages consultation 2019 has been published. Communities are invited to start phase 2 of the consultation on their wikis.
Problems
- File descriptions for files from Commons were not shown properly on other Wikimedia wikis for a few days. For example the image descriptions and license information were missing. This has now been fixed. [2][3]
- Some diffs show an error message when you try to see them. The developers are working on fixing it. It could be because of some edit comments. [4][5]

Future changes
- The content translation tool on Wikipedia can use machine translations. There is a system to stop translations where the editors do not fix machine translation mistakes. This warns or stops them if they seem to just copy what the machine translation gives them. If this system is too strict or not strict enough you can tell the language team. [6]
- The Wikidata
wbeditentityAPI endpoint will remove all aliases if the request includes an empty alias. This is how it supposed to work. It has not been working this way because of a bug. This will start on 12 June. [7]

April Carrion
I'm here to file a complaint about you abruptly closing a discussion on April Carrion, and you decided to side with the delete's, which was NOT the right thing to do. First of all, the voting was at best 3 keep vs. 2 delete and 1 redirect, so it was a tie. There should have been a wait for 1 more person to vote, and you shouldn't have closed it that soon. Also, I saw absolutely no mention or suspicion of socking in any of that discussion, plus no proof, so your statement about that was wrong. And in fact, it was mentioned that the previous afd wasn't handled correctly either because that consensus only had 2 deletes and 1 keep, too small to make a decision on, so that's wrong too. I believe you should re-open the afd because that consensus was too unfair to make an obvious call on.

My AfC submissions
I agree that the entry Draft:Every Woman's Problem is only a start. You are welcome to improve the article yourself or make suggestions on the talk page. Leaving a notable subject in draftspace doesn't help anyone, and I am already having to waste time doing wp:refunds. Lots of important and notable subjects need creation (inclusion) and expansion. I also started Draft:Your Girl and Mine today an even earlier film (1914) that also dealt with Woman's Suffrage. It is also easier for me to work on articles in mainspace than in draft space. I can link to the article without creating redlinks or having people remove my additions to a non-existant article. And it is obvious if I make a spelling error regarding the article title (because it will be red for good reason). I am also working up the directors and film companies involved so it's extra daunting to deal with various topics in draftspace and not being able to link back and forth. - There was also a 1914 film of the same name produced by the red cross and another 1914 film that was pro suffragist put out by a related studio so I am trying to sort out all the threads. For example in Wikipedia's article on woman's suffrage in film, I believe the Santa Paula studio was formerly a studio that produced an anti-suffrage film for the production company that formerly occupied it. But again, it all gets a lot more complicated for me having to enter "draft:" before titles and not being able to link directly between articles. FloridaArmy (talk) 23:25, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

Recent changes
- You can now write all special letters in all African Wikipedia languages. This works in the desktop version. [10]
- There is now a field called
depictson Commons. This is a way to show what is in a picture with the help of Wikidata. It is still in development. [11] - Some tools on Toolforge may break on or after 3 June because of database changes. Maintainers should update their tools to use the new schema. [12][13]

- You will be able to read but not to edit Wikimedia Commons for 30 minutes on 19 June at 05:00 (UTC). This is to fix a hardware problem. [14]

- Some wikis have one tab for the visual editor and one tab for a wikitext editor. Others wikis just have one tab. If your wiki has two tabs, clicking a link to create a new page has always opened a wikitext editor. It will now open the editor you used the last time you edited. [15]

Thank you Roy for your comments. I did hope that the use of a reference by Bob Pease and the quote form Bob Wyman might just qualify. I do feel that the VNS was innovative in its time and so is "notable" if not exactly WP:GNG. It deserves its (tiny) place in history and I felt that Wikipedia was the appropriate place. Guideline and policy news
- An RfC seeks to clarify whether WP:OUTING should include information on just the English Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project.
- An RfC on WT:RfA concluded that Requests for adminship and bureaucratship are discussions seeking to build consensus.
- An RfC proposal to make the templates for discussion (TfD) process more like the requested moves (RM) process, i.e. "as a clearinghouse of template discussions", was closed as successful.
Technical news
- The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.
- Twinkle's d-batch (batch delete) feature now supports deleting subpages (and related redirects and talk pages) of each page. The pages will be listed first but use with caution! The und-batch (batch undelete) option can now also restore talk pages.
Miscellaneous
- The previously discussed unblocking of IP addresses indefinitely-blocked before 2009 was approved and has taken place.
- The 2019 talk pages consultation produced a report for Phase 1 and has entered Phase 2.

Recent changes
- When you create a PDF from a page on the wiki this is now done by Proton. Before this we used Electron. It should look the same but work better. Both use Chromium. This is a different system from when you collect several articles into a book and make a PDF from them. [16][17]
- The Flagged Revisions extension now uses the standard OOUI icons. There will be additional minor fixes for positioning in the next deployment. [18]
- Bots and other scripts that do not set an identifiable User-Agent may find their requests strictly rate-limited until they identify themselves properly. [19]

- Please check if the Flagged Revisions configuration on your wiki is as you expect (or as it was a few weeks ago). If not, please report it. [20]

As you most likely know, I am new to the wikipedia universe and was looking to create a non-promotional, neutral article about Draft:Continental Express Inc. As I have noted with DRM310 User_talk:Drm310#Undisclosed_paid_editing:_Continental_Express,_Inc., and Deb User_talk:Deb#Continental_Express,_Inc._Deletion I am not paid, I have never been paid, nor will I ever be paid to contribute or edit to the page Draft:Continental Express Inc that you deleted. I only wanted to create an informative, factual, non-biased article about Continental Express, Inc. like so many other companies have done. If my article has gotten deleted, then why hasnt CR England, Werner Enterprises, or Knight-Swift. Please SPECIFICALLY cite what is promotional about my article, and I will gladly change it. I want to work with you on this process not against.

- I'll defer to the thread on User talk:Drm310, which I think covers all the bases. The only thing I would add to that conversation is that we generally discuss all issues in public, for transparency purposes. Moving conversations to private email is highly unusual, and generally only done when there's a pressing need for privacy. - You will be able to read but not to edit Wikimedia Commons for 30 minutes on 19 June at 05:00 (UTC). This is to fix a hardware problem. [21]
Changes later this week
- MIDI files can soon be played without the Score extension. You can then add them with
[[File:Filename.midi]]. Lateroverride_midiandoverride_audiowill stop working. Instead you will need to add the MIDI file below the music score. [22] - A new video player will soon replace the old one. You will be able to enable it as a beta feature in your preferences. It will later be enabled for everyone if there are no big problems. [23]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 18 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 19 June. It will be on all wikis from 20 June (calendar).

Future changes
- Some gadgets and user scripts still use the old

AfD Pareshaan Parinda
Hello RoySmith, Thank you for reviewing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pareshaan Parinda, but I would like to ask you to reconsider your decision for a couple of reasons. The first and only keep !vote was added by the article creator whose sole claim was that the article has some reliable sources, there is no question about the reliability of the sources, but none of those sources provides "significant coverage" for the film as required by WP:NFP. The first source is a listing and rest of them are about the lead actress, not the film. Also, The film was released in March 2018, but there is no evidence to satisfy WP:NFO so would you mind giving it another look? Thank you. GSS (talk|c|em) 02:14, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

- The new version of MediaWiki for last week was not fully released due to issues. It was removed from most wikis on Tuesday and from test wikis on Thursday. [25]
- Most wikis were slow and then briefly read-only last week due to one of the database servers having a problem. It is now replaced. [26]

Jim Masterson Page
I was trying to create a page about Jim Masterson and it had been deleted. This is my first time trying to contribute to wikipedia, so I am learning the proper protocol for uploading. I do have permission from the photographers to use those images and I believe I understand the correct way to upload now. I will try to upload correctly this time. Thank you
- You're talking about User:KylaHeaton/sandbox, right? There's multiple issues here. One, as you point out, is a copyright issue with File:(1) 1 MG 4570 6937 Jim.jpg. You might want to ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions about the proper way to convey copyright to the Wikimedia Foundation. But, beyond that, the text of the page also had extensive copying from, for example, https://mastersonmethod.com/about-jim/, which is what I was looking at when I deleted it. And, beyond all that, you clearly have some connection to the subject, so please see WP:COI for all the issues regarding conflicts of interest. -- RoySmith (talk) 21:43, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
