{{helpme}} Hi. I recently added an entry in the article file manager [1] for sunrise commander. Now as I understand it sunrise commander is an important orthodox file manager because it is more OS-neutral than any other file-manager as it runs inside emacs and emacs runs on every conceivable OS. I looked to see a day later and my entry was removed as vandalism.

I am a bit confused... What is the wikipedians definition of vandalism??

Hello Rpm13, and thank you for your question. It appears your link was removed from the page because it did not conform to Wikipedia's style guidelines relating to external links. It was not considered vandalism. The section in which you added those links, are for links to other Wikipedia pages only, and not to external sites. The link provided also appears to be a blog, and therefore should not be used as an external link. Thanks Peter. So what do you recommend I do?

Some points to note:

+ I have no connection with SC (and anyway its free)

+ The entry was not to a blog but to a wiki (emacswiki.org) of course much smaller and not maintained to wikipedia standards.

+ There was something about vandalism when I saw it 12 hours back but it seems to be gone now.

I dont mind:

a. creating a new (stub) page (Ive never done it before!) but if theres some other mysterious rule by which some zealot knocks it off I dont want to waste my time Or

b. Just put in the name without the link

I see, my mistake. Basically wikis, blogs, and other mediums which anyone can edit, are frowned upon, because (by the definition of "anyone can edit") they can be unreliable. This is why Wikipedia also has a sense of irony about it. A lot of pages get vandalised–thousands of pages daily–so you were not responsible for this. If you wish to create a new page, see your first article, which gives some pointers, or the article wizard, which in my opinion is even better. Remember to provide some reliable, independent sources for the subject, and bear in mind that a neutral point of view is required, as well as a demonstration of notability.
