unblock|When I first visited my page, a message appeared indicating an ip address range was blocked because of *one* user. This block is scheduled to last until the middle of 2009! The particular ip address range in question is owned by Sprint and is part of their Wireless Broadband Internet which can be accessed pretty much anywhere in the country. I do not think it is right for an administrator to make such a sweeping block to Wikipedia because of a single individual.

Difficult to look into without knowing which IP range you're referring to. If you're not sure, the username of the blocking admin and the block reason provided may be enough to find it in their logs. – Luna Santin (talk) 01:05, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
The exact blocking message is as follows: Editing from 99.204.0.0/16 (your account, IP address, or IP address range) has been disabled by Raul654 for the following reason(s): Range used by Scibaby. This block has been set to expire: 18:31, 3 March 2009. Rswfire (talk) 01:09, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
User:Scibaby, his related accounts, and your IP range, were all blocked as a result of rampant abusive sockpuppetry across the wide range you are currently on. While I'm not currently able to do anything about it on this account, I've taken a look at your contributions and it seems that you got accidentally caught up in this. Other admins reviewing this, while the range should not be unblocked, it seems as though this user could use some WP:IPEXEMPTion. Hersfold non-admin(t/a/c) 02:26, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I concur. — Athaenara 14:17, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

I've made you exempt from IP blocks to continue editing under this account

Request handled by: Stephen 00:03, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much; I genuinely appreciate you granting an exemption for my account, as well as the trust this entails after reading about it on the WP:IPEXEMPT page. I would still like to just voice my concern one last time that the range being blocked is utilized by a significant number of individuals; surely, there must be some other way of handling the abusive actions of a single individual. Perhaps by knowing that this range is owned by Sprint and used as part of their Wireless Broadband Network, an abuse report could be sent to Sprint to have the user's broadband card disabled. I just feel that sweeping blocks of this nature are damaging to the overall ideals of Wikipedia itself, especially if alternatives are available. I would like to say, however, that I am honored that you felt my limited number of contributions to Wikipedia were worthwhile. Rswfire (talk) 02:40, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

We're doing some early "spring cleaning" and it seems that you've been inactive in the last three months. Typically, IP rangeblocks do not last quite this long, so I've taken the liberty of removing the extraneous permission from your account. You should be fine, though if you experience problems due to IP blocks again, please re-request the permission.

If you're no longer editing for some reason, please feel welcome to do so again in the future! Kylu (talk) 05:21, 18 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
