Great script. I'm sure it works fine. But by the time the user finds it, he has probably already given up trying to find the link in question. Hopefully one day the concept of permalinks can somehow reach Wikimedia wikis. Jidanni (talk) 07:28, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Jidanni, you might be looking for the page Help:Permanent link. —andrybak (talk) 11:20, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Template calls in section titles

edit

This is a feature request rather than a critical bug.

I feel that this gadget ought to work around a limitation of core MediaWiki: When templates such as {{-r}} or (presumably) the entire {{tl}} family are used in a section title, the MediaWiki software does not perform transclusion before generating the section anchor in automatic edit summaries.

For example, see User talk:OlEnglish#Rcats on Deoxyribionucleic acid (permanent link). The edit summary links to the incorrect anchor Rcats_on_{{-r|Deoxyribionucleic_acid}}. Upon attempting to follow that link, your script tries to search for that anchor without any unmangling. Here it fails, and the message is unhelpful in context.

The script should not attempt to transclude all templates, just the simple ones I've mentioned. --SoledadKabocha (talk) 19:13, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

For the sake of completeness, the same MediaWiki limitation affects the URL redirected to upon saving edits to a section with such a title. --SoledadKabocha (talk) 20:20, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@SoledadKabocha Belated response: this feature is present in c:User:JWBTH/CD script. It brilliantly finds similarly named sections (with 60%+ word overlap, I think) and suggests them. It works to catch cases of {{tl}} (and I suppose {{-r}}) usage in section headers. – SD0001 (talk) 07:29, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you!

Make default?

edit

Hi SD0001! This is one of those gadgets where, once you turn it on, I really can't imagine anyone wanting to turn it off. Have you considered seeking consensus to make it something that's turned on by default? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 06:23, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Sdkb: Feel free to start a discussion. I think it's better started by someone other than the gadget creator. @Þjarkur supported making it default in the initial gadget discussion.
I've not been using this myself though – as the feature is now part of the delightful Convenient Discussions script which adds yet cooler features to the mix (such as the one mentioned above). In the future, I believe this feature could be made part of DiscussionTools in MediaWiki itself. – SD0001 (talk) 07:35, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

"redirectLatestRevision" used by RedWarn

edit

Hi there @SD0001, and thanks for pointing this out to me. I've noticed that when undoing warnings made by yourself, RedWarn uses the hash parameter "redirectLatestRevision". Could you also make a similar exception to it in the source code? Thanks! 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 17:38, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Here's a list of all URL fragment prefixes used by RedWarn, in case more exceptions are to be added. We're planning to get rid of these entirely soon.
"noticeApplied-", "redirectLatestRevision", "watchLatestRedirect", "investigateFail", "investigateIncomp", "configChange", "rwPendingAccept", "rwReviewUnaccept", "compLatest", "rollbackPreview", "rollbackFailNoRev", "rwPatrolAttach-RWBC_"

That's nice (getting these rid of entirely). 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 00:16, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@SD0001, any updates on this? 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 00:16, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

"archiverLink" used by 1CA

edit

@SD0001: "#archiverLink" is used by WP:1CA after threads are archived. Similar to the above, please make an exception to it. Thanks, 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 00:17, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
