Hi SECGlebeIsland,

Thanks for taking the time to begin work on the article about the new convention centre, and on improving the article about Glebe Island itself. I'd like to point you to a policy we have on WP that says user names which imply that the ownership is shared, or user names that are promotional of your own organisation (and your username is both of these) are not allowed. See Wikipedia:Username#Promotional_names. You also would therefore appear to have a strong conflict of interest because you're writing about your own employer - and are probably required to keep an eye on the articles relating to your company as part of your job to make sure it says nice things. Therefore you might also be interested in reading our CoI policy and the specific advice for those who are in such a situation - Wikipedia:CoI#Advice_for_editors_who_may_have_a_conflict_of_interest.

So.... What I would suggest is that if you wish to continue editing WP, and want to be a contributing member of the community here, that you abandon this user account, create a new one with a more personal pseudonym (even "Fred from SECGI" would be fine) - and then put a message on the (currently blank) user page of this account pointing to that new one. Then, on the new user account page I would put a message declaring who you work for and what your purpose is - a simple sentence is fine - it's a gesture of good-faith and allows other users to contact you for more information if they want to try and improve the article in ways that you might be able to help with. Finally, I would then suggest that any future major COI edits you'd like to make should first be put on the relevant talkpage to see if anyone has any objections. If no one says anything for a few days then you could add it to the article.

I hope this helps,

Hi Wittylama

Thanks for your message and advice as above regarding your policies, which as a first time contributor, I was now aware of. I will follow your instructions above to set up a new user account and read the COI policy. My intention with this page was only to provide factual information about the venue and to update the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre page, as many people are still confused about the redevelopments and what's happening in the interim.

Thanks again.
