Better source request for some of your uploads
editThanks for your uploads to Wikipedia. There is an issue with some of them, specifically:
- File:Melanosomes in the most basal part of gingival epithelium.jpg
- File:Melanocytes with dendrites in basal epithelium of acigarette smoker.jpg
- File:Melanocytes with dendrites. Smoker´s melanosis.jpg
- File:Melanocyte with melanin in dendrite to the left.jpg
- File:Discoloration of skin on finger holding cigarette.jpg
You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the images because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the images, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image files themselves. Please update the image descriptions with URLs that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 03:21, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
Hello, Many thanks for your help. As you can see I am a beginner to write in Wikipedia. I need your help! The abowe mentioned pictures have the following references in the above order: 1. My own paraffinembedded tissue from my patient with smoker´s melanosis, photographed by myself. 1976. 2. Tissue prepared to paper reference 1. Hedin CA: Smoker´s melanosis. Arch Derm 1977; 113:1533-1538. The picture was not used in this paper but is close to the DOPA staining Fig.5 on page 1536. 3. See nr 2. By misstake I loaded the picture twice. Could be deleted. 4. Picture published in ref 4. Hedin CA, Larrson Å: The ultrastructure of the gingival epithelium in smoker´s melanosis. J Periodontal Res 1984; 19: 177-190. 5. My own photo taken by myself from my own patient about 1980.
With interest I look forward to see if this correspondence will reach you. Yours, SK10DPB.
- All you need to do is send an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org stating that 1) you own the copyright to these images 2) you agree to release this images under a CC BY SA license. Hello Doc James, Nice to have contact with you. I sent a permission to the address you mention in your letter above. I sent it 9 november 2013 at 00:27 signed Anders. Is it possible for you to find it and see if it is OK? Yours, SK10DPB.
- Perfect might take a couple of days for someone to get to it. I do not have access. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 20:26, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
Welcome
editI note your recent edit on plasma cell gingivitis. May I ask for a source for this information? It is a good habit to get into on Wikipedia, everything must be supported by a source (see here for more info: WP:MEDRS). Kind regards, Lesion (talk) 12:27, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for providing a source. Ideally sources are used as inline-citation, so I have integrated the source you provided. This page gives many hints about how to deal with references for new medical editors: WP:MEDHOW. Great images by the way, thank you. Lesion (talk) 12:46, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Plasma cell gingivitis on 7 yerars old child.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Plasma cell gingivitis on 7 yerars old child.jpg, which you've attributed to Swed Dent J 18:117-124. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Melanocytes with dendrites in basal epithelium of acigarette smoker.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:Melanocytes with dendrites in basal epithelium of acigarette smoker.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. "OTRS ticket" and image deletion
editDear SK10DPB,
Thank you again for your edits and image uploads. The copyright requirements can be confusing. Although it appears that several images have been deleted, I have been told by an admin that this deletion will be reversed once the "OTRS ticket" has been received, so as I understand matters you do not need to do anything further if you have already applied for this ticket. Apologies, bureaucracy ... Lesion (talk) 00:51, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, "deletion" is more like "put in your desktop's trashcan" than truly deleted. It's not permanent and can be reversed at the click of a button once the paperwork gets through the process. It's an annoyance, but it should all work out in the end.
- Several of us at WP:WikiProject Medicine (feel free to drop by and say hello to other people who want to improve Wikipedia's medical articles!) have friends among the volunteers over at OTRS, so if it doesn't get cleared up in a week or so, then please leave a note there and ask one of us to chase someone down and find out what's gone wrong.
- Thanks for your help with the encyclopedia, WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:54, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hi SK10DPB. A permission emal has been received and processed by the OTRS team, but the permission in the email was only for File:Melanocyte with melanin in dendrite to the left.jpg. Another email will have to be sent for the following images before they can be restored:
- There's instructions at WP:Consent. Thanks, -- Diannaa (talk) 18:19, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- Also, there's a note up at WP:AN that OTRS has just received an unusually large number of requests, so please don't be discouraged if those new messages require a bit more than a week to get processed. We really appreciate your persistence with this bit of bureaucracy (which, believe it or not, is meant to protect you from other people stealing your previously published images). WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:05, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
Have restored the images in question. Please still send the OTRS permissions for these other four images which I have marked as pending. Additionally you will need to re add them to the Wikipedia articles they were on. I am not sure how to figure this out and hope that you remember. Sorry about this issue but hopefully it can soon be dealt with. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 00:01, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
OTRS permission
editIf you could also send permission to ORTS for the other images that would be great. There are a number of people who who are sticklers for detail. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 23:32, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
References
editRemember that when adding content about health, please only use high-quality reliable sources as references. We typically use review articles, major textbooks and position statements of national or international organizations (There are several kinds of sources that discuss health: here is how the community classifies them and uses them). WP:MEDHOW walks you through editing step by step. A list of resources to help edit health content can be found here. The edit box has a built-in citation tool to easily format references based on the PMID or ISBN. We also provide style advice about the structure and content of medicine-related encyclopedia articles. The welcome page is another good place to learn about editing the encyclopedia. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 20:30, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
Hello, I am trying to add a few new references to my page Smoker´s melanosis. However it seems that two of them has been discluded by you. They are not secondary sources but good original scientific investigations, accepted and published. I would like you to more precisely tell me why they can not be included (se ref below). I also include one new reference (last of the three below) which I would like to include. Gomez GJA, Martinez EA, Gomez RJ, Silva YM, Nunez AMG, Agudelo AG, Duque AA, Castano AZ, Gonzalez EE, Millan MI, Ossa DR: Reverse smoketrs´s and changes in oral mucosa. Med Oral Patol Cir Bucal 2008; 13:1-8 Tamai Y, Tsuji M, Wada K, Nakamura K, Hayashi M, Takeda N, Yasuda K, Nagata C: Association of cigarette smoking with skin colour in Japanese women. Yours SK10DPBSK10DPB (talk) 10:21, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
- Yes you continue to use primary source, why are you not using secondary sources instead? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 00:24, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
I use primary sources when every reader can find the original articles on Internet. Concerning health subjects, you often find the paper with an easy "copy and past" reference search on Internet. If not, PubMed is easy to reach for anyone who will read a summary or the complete paper free. In this way new information can be presented faster, compared to wait many years, until the finding is printed and perhaps somewhat distorted by another author in a textbook. For fastest information go to the referee-accepted and published original papers, after you have judged its scientific quality yourself. I am trying to keep this page as “up to date” as possible. Yours, SK10DPBSK10DPB (talk) 12:20, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
- Most primary sources are not in the end duplicated and they need to be fit in with all the rest of the primary sources. That is the reason we typically wait for secondary sources. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 18:59, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
