Non-free rationale for File:Swords of Night and Day.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Swords of Night and Day.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:03, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Response - Your query on my changes to "Sri Bhagavan"

Hello Regarding your query on some changes done on "Sri Bhagavan" "Sri Bhagavan" is the name of an Indian spiritual master. This is the official name used by his school and also his legal name. On Wiki, he has been listed under his nickname "Kalki Bhagavan" that some of his students use to address him. The plan is to move the page "Kalki Bhagavan" to "Sri Bhagavan". But, found that "Sri Bhagavan" is being redirected to "Bhagavan". So, removed the redirect on "sri Bhagavan" to see if the move on "Kalki Bhagavan" will work. But, since it did not work, have "undone" the changes. Appreciate your input on how I can get this move done. Prodigyhk (talk) 13:49, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. This sounds like an okay move, but you really should see here for guidance on doing page moves first. I'll remove the warning from your user talk page now. SMC (talk) 14:06, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

Many thanks, SMC, for keeping an eye out for vandalism on my personal pages. Regards, Pinethicket (talk) 14:55, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

You're most welcome! SMC (talk) 14:56, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Re: 527539613

How is that edit disruptive? It adds historical context, and the sources for the date, etc., of the Propylaea's damage are cited in the Propylaea article.

Removal of Oxathiazolone content

SMC,
The oxathiazolone page was created as a project to compile information on the compound for our organic chemistry course. However, on submission of the completed product, our professor requested that we remove the content as it was strewn with both content and citation errors, and since it largely referenced works that he had published,it appeared as he had been the creator of the error strewn page.
I am new to wiki editing / creation and was only aware of the "edit summary" option after removing the content from the site.. my apologies.. i have since submitted a summary as to the reason content was removed. Content may be restored in an accurate fashion at a later date, with proper citation. Again, this removal of content was not done in error, and I appreciate your acknowledgement and concern.

CU-Chem2015 (talk) 17:50, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi CU-Chem2015. While I appreciate your attempts to keep the article accurate, you should be careful to ensure that you do not delete content that already existed prior to your additions. You can do this by going to the history tab of an article, comparing the revision prior to your edit revision, clicking "Compare selected revisions", then on the next screen clicking "edit" next to the old revision. Then save it on the next screen, adding an explanatory edit summary. SMC (talk) 00:01, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Reading day article

I feel your immediate dismissal of my reading day information discredits this website as a worthwhile source of inromation. If you actually took the time to investigate the common uses of this great holiday, you would find my information not only credible but 100% accurate.

Chi Omega page

The content should be removed. It only perpetuates a cycle of racism and hate, adding to the problem. In addition, comparable articles have little to no mention of incidents such as these. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.124.117.171 (talk) 01:22, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

The content you removed is referenced and appears to demonstrate that it is worthy of mention in the article. You should bring this up on the talk page of the article instead of mass-deleting content. SMC (talk) 01:26, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

All of the information that I added to the pages is completely true and it adds lovely character to the page for the many fans. I'm sorry if you're a hater. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.81.167.67 (talkcontribs)

The information you added is unsuitable for an encyclopedia. Content is not included on Wikipedia because it "adds character to the page for fans"; rather, it must be verifiable and backed with references. SMC (talk) 02:32, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, agreed. I took a closer look after the editor restored it again and decided not to do another reversion, in the hope that a fresh pair of eyes would come along. And you're welcome; same to you! SMC (talk) 11:53, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Kennedy Junior High School

Hi! I am a student at this school but I don't know how to include a source! I put in a link at the bottom of the page, but it doesn't show up like the other sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.141.207.160 (talk) 02:02, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Please take a look at the referencing page. You also really need to make sure that the material is actually encyclopedic; as it stands right now, it really isn't using a neutral point of view (e.g. phrases like "will always be a respected group of enlightened individuals" are not balanced). Cheers. SMC (talk) 02:07, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

I had not finished my entry and it would have had a citation. My source is Bobby Baldwin and James Goody Roy. Your article, like most doesn't talk about some of the true great gamblers who played cash games. Ask Bobby or Doyle what they think of James Goody Roy. He is in Cowboy's book, Amarillo Slim's and Doyle's latest and mentioned on ESPN by Doyle. However, he will remain largely unknown thanks to you deleting my contribution in two seconds. Look at the picture of the first world series of poker in Doyle's book, James and Carolyn Roy are the striking couple in the center. Read Amarillo's passage about Goody breaking him and how he did it many times. Tournament playing is different than cash games. Your focus on this leaves the real story of how these men made their living and the kind of player they had to be untold. If you could only play tournaments, you would go broke. I will bow out now. Sorry for contributing my unique and unwelcome knowledge to this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.88.193.167 (talk) 04:50, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

If you include a valid reference to the writing, then you will have met the verifiability requirements. Please remember that until such time as a reference is added to a statement, that statement can be freely challenged and removed by any user. SMC (talk) 06:48, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Chi Omega section blanking

192.5.215.250 and 192.5.215.254 (apparently the same user) has inappropriately section-blanked Chi Omega two times in the past few days. You reverted (thank you!) another editor, 165.124.117.171, who had blanked the same section a few days earlier. These may be members or alumni of the fraternity doing it. Can you help? Thanks. --76.189.123.142 (talk) 01:26, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

I've added the page to my watchlist. At this stage there isn't enough recurring vandalism for a semi-protect, but if they keep it up I'm happy to handle such a request for you. SMC (talk) 02:52, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
Thank you so much. That's really nice of you. That section has been blanked 4 times by (apparently) 3 different editors in the past 8 days. One of them was by an IP (74.93.142.161) in Memphis, Tennessee, where the national headquarters of the fraternity happens to be located. ;) Well, thanks again! --76.189.123.142 (talk) 02:57, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 February newsletter

Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, will progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.

Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:

  1.   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), primarily for an array of warship GAs.
  2.   Miyagawa (submissions), primarily for an array of did you knows and good articles, some of which were awarded bonus points.
  3.   Casliber (submissions), due in no small part to Canis Minor, a featured article awarded a total of 340 points. A joint submission with   Keilana (submissions), this is the highest scoring single article yet submitted in this year's competition.

Other contributors of note include:

Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by   The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...

March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!

A few final administrative issues. From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. James Allan Fox

He does not have an advanced degree. He is not a profiler. Their are only 13 people in the USA who can LEGITIMATELY claim to be profilers. Fox takes the stance that he is one and opines on television. I don't remember exactly what I said, but the man is just a useless tool of the media. He adds no substance. A criminal case is FACT AND CIRCUMSTANCE. Mostly, I'm betting Fox was not at the scene of the crime!!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.233.102.30 (talk) 00:25, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

You say that you "removed an external link you added to the page Pius Vilakati because it seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia." Why is that? Can you please clarify further. I think the links were appropriate because they led readers to the appropriate sources of the information I added.

Hi. I probably would've been better leaving you with a different message referring to this part of the verifiability guidelines. You added two external URLs as references: a (presumably official) Facebook page, and a BlogSpot article. Per the verifiability guidelines these are generally to be avoided, and in the blog's case it is also a reference that has been published by the subject themselves. The Facebook link would probably be suitable in an "external links" section for that article (per the external links policy). I hope that helps. I will now remove the warning from your talk page as it is clear to me that the edit was in good faith. SMC (talk) 12:13, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
