Online Ambassadors

I saw you have been really active lately and I clicked on over to your user page and was pretty impressed. Would you be interested in helping with the WP:Online_Ambassadors program? It's really a great opportunity to help university students become Wikipedia contributers. I hope you apply to become an ambassador, Sadads (talk) 23:40, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the invite! I actually had a look at this a few weeks back. I'm in the middle of coordinating the WP:GOCE's January backlog elimination drive. I'll consider applying next month when I'm not so tied up. Cheers. – SMasters (talk) 00:01, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
If you apply now we can get you on the mailing list and such and just put you in the waiting area until your ready to take on students. We would love to have you (One of the courses that just started ramping up this week is a technical editing class so the students will be doing a combination of writing USPP articles and copyediting), Sadads (talk) 00:14, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
OK, I will consider applying in the next week or so. Thanks. – SMasters (talk) 00:40, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Newsletter time

It's time to develop the final newsletter for the Guild's January Backlog elimination drive, but instead of developing it in my subpage, I'm thinking we should create a Guild page dedicated to the development of our newsletters. We could create Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Newsletters and add links to all of our newsletters. We could put the newsletters themselves into subpages, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Newsletters/December 2010, or something along those lines. The newsletters can be developed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Newsletters/Development area. What do you think? The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 14:43, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I agree. We need to have Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Newsletters, which should contain an index of all of our past newsletters (which are currently all over the place). We can do any development on the talk page of this page, or on the actual final destination of any new newsletters. Probably no need for any development pages as it does not serve much purpose. Can you please help set it up as I'm packing to go on a short vacation. Thanks! – SMasters (talk) 15:45, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
No problem. I'll set everything up as soon as I can. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 15:56, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Excellent, thank you! – SMasters (talk) 03:22, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Horror

Hey, it's been a while. A (very) late Happy New Year. Anyway, we're thinking of launching our first WikiProject Horror newsletter, and still continuing overall project revival, so it'd be great if you could comment over at the talk page. Thanks, --Tærkast (Communicate) 18:00, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I had a look and seems like you have enough interest going there. If I have any good ideas, I'll add them there. Cheers. – SMasters (talk) 16:01, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Barnstar document

Hi SMasters, and welcome back. I have finished the document that gives final results and assigns barnstars for the January event, and was wondering if you could check it over? Tea With Toast has checked my addition so that needn't be done. If you could check that I missed no one who had a 10-K article and check the Leaderboard people and make sure I got those parts right? I will start handing out the lower-level awards in the meantime. Thanks. --Diannaa (Talk) 16:54, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.

Statistics
  • 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
  • One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
  • Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
  • Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.
Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for participating in this year's first Backlog elimination drive! We hope to see you in March.

January 10k article

Hi SMasters. I discontinued working on the list of Quest for Glory characters article because I decided I wouldn't have time to finish it in January. I figured I'd try doing it in the March drive, and didn't want to mess with trying to calculate partial credit this time for rollover words, and then partial credit next time, when I'd just end up adding them together again. I hope that's not a problem. However, I *did* also copyedit the Greyhawk article, which was also a 10k article. Hope that clears things up. Torchiest talkedits 15:58, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm so sorry, it's my mistake. – SMasters (talk) 16:13, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
No problem; thanks for the barnstar! :) Torchiest talkedits 16:15, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
You well deserve it! Sorry again for my error and thanks for all your hard work! – SMasters (talk) 16:21, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Wilhelmina Will - 10K

I see on the Barnstar worksheet that you were not sure whether Wilhelmina Will completed a 10K article. They participated in editing List of Quest for Glory characters, along with Torchiest, so likely qualify for the award. Are all the other barnstars distributed? --209.89.22.14 (talk) 17:09, 6 February 2011 (UTC) (Diannaa, in Banff on wikibreak)

The {{copyedit}} tag is still on that article. I left a note on Wilhelmina's talk page regarding this. And yes, all barnstars have been distributed except for mine. – SMasters (talk) 17:16, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok super excellent. I am in a cyber cafe in Banff today and am thus not logged in. I got your barnstars all done. Thanks for your help. Once we get this last loose end tied up about Wilhelmina Will, the January drive will be a wrap. --209.89.22.14 (talk) 17:37, 6 February 2011 (UTC) (Diannaa, in Banff)
Hi, I see your note to Wilhelmina Will discusses the Asura Cryin article, but they also worked on List of Quest for Glory characters --209.89.22.14 (talk) 18:20, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I saw that and all is sorted out now. (Sorry, I keep missing your messages because each time you have posted, some bot comes along and leaves a message, and I have not seen earlier changes – need to check my talk page more thoroughly in future :) ). Cheers. – SMasters (talk) 03:33, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok, glad to hear it's all been worked out. TTYL. --Diannaa (Talk) 04:00, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
