Your edits to Robert Fisk and accusions of vandalism

edit

Please tell how this is the edits of a vandal. You have just undone edits which make the article cleaner. To make matters worse you have increased frustration by warning me not to edit again. Very well, will go away now. As he say himself stop using Wikipedia (24th line from bottom even if much of rest of speech is not as good). Perhaps you should be more careful in future. --86.45.87.49 (talk) 01:01, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

When you delete or move large chunks of text, please leave an edit summary, so that recent changes patrollers can understand what you're doing. Otherwise, we might mistake them for vandalism — which is what I did —.
I'm sorry and I apologise for issuing a warning in error, but please understand it was done in good faith. Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 01:09, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Latin America

edit

Hi! I am having a little problem in the article Latin America with editor SamEV about Brazilian demographics. The main article about Brazil explains that the "Pardo" population is a a broad category that includes sub-categories such as the Mullattoes, Caboclos (known as "Mestizos" in Hispanic-America) and Cafuzos (known as "Zambo" in Hispanic America). In the Latin America article there is a table that says that 39.1% of Brazilian population are "mulatto" when the correct should be "Pardo". I explained that carefully in the talk page (See Talk:Latin America#Conflict with editor SamEV) but editor SamEV not only ignored my remarks but insist on reverting all my edits. I also tried to reach his in his own talk page but he simply erased my message. That is not a helpful behavior of his. I should had simply requested to an administrator to block him per the 3 eevert rules and asked for an arbitration since his behaving as his owns the article. However, I want to avoid that since the issue is something very simple, that is, nothing more than to clarify the table that present Brazilian demographics. As it is know, it says that there are 0% Caboclos or Mestizos (the majority of the population in Northern Region, Brazil, Northeast Region, Brazil and Central-West Region, Brazil) and 0% Cafuzos or Zambos. Could you, please, share your thoughts about it in the article talk page? Thank you very much, --Lecen (talk) 10:36, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I know very little about the subject, so I can only comment on policies. You're in the middle of a content dispute, but that's no big deal: you're already trying to sort it out, by discussing on the talk page.
You both should not have kept on inserting and removing the figure — it takes two to edit war... ;) —, but you should have followed the "D" part in WP:BRD and discussed the changes. However, you disengaged and discussed — and that's good —. The other editor should have replied there, before undoing again your edit: you were not vandalising, so to keep on reverting without discussing was not justified, in my opinion. I wish to emphasize that I'm only talking about policies, because I know very little of the subject, so I'm not capable of discerning if an edit contains ludicrous facts or allegations.
If your counterpart does not accept to discuss, you might want to go to WP:3 or, in general, follow WP:DR. Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 11:24, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the welcome to Wikipedia

edit

Hello, Salvio Giulano! Thank you for the welcome to Wikipedia.
My first attempt and I jumped directly to writing an article. Thought it would probably get kicked off just for being so bold, but I see, at least so far, no problems.
The article Hear It See It Music still needs work, like do many new articles I would guess - additional information and fix a few minor technical problems.
Would like to upload a picture (Hear It See It Music format – screen shot), but I see there is no way for me to do that at this point.

You have no doubt heard this before: Not much time to work on projects (but I would like to do so whenever possible).
Now, I think I need to practice editing and learn my way around. Once I get a bit more comfortable with all the details, will then ask for some experienced editor help (would that be you?), but not very soon, life gets in the way!

Will keep an eye on that edit summary field and elaborate a bit more if you think it best.

Thanks again for your message and your work on Wikipedia.TK5610L (talk) 00:51, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, first, I moved this thread down, because I try to keep the page chronologically organized. ;)
That said, I'm glad to see your enthusiasm: do not worry and be bold. We all have learnt by trial and error and we always try not to bite newcomers. To upload a picture, you have to be an autoconfirmed user, so you just have to wait a little longer; you can find all the info you need here; however, image uploading is a very complex thing, because there can be copyright problems — I admit I'm not the right person to ask, unfortunately —.
If you need help with anything other than images, feel free to contact me: I'm always here. ;) Otherwise, you can consider asking an experienced user to adopt you and help you grow accustomed to this place.
The most important thing, in the end, is that you enjoy Wikipedia! Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 01:04, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Karel Čapek-Edit warring

edit

Bongiorno Salvio giuliano (talk · contribs),
Thanks for getting involved. I was just getting diffs together for a wp:3RR report. When I realised the Karel Čapek talk page was the only place I hadn't tried to contact JJLEN10 (talk · contribs), I went there. I also noticed that you had reverted their last revert of me. I have left at least 4 messages on the editors talkpage (includind a Template:uw-3rr warning), and Ja_62 (talk · contribs) has also left an 'Uw-advert1' template warning. The editor is unresponsive, unless we remove their section from the page! Now what? Possibly page protection before they revert you? --220.101.28.25 (talk) 15:19, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I had just detected you on Huggle, went to take a look and saw you were right: JJLEN10 (talk · contribs) was definitely edit warring and I would have reported him, had I not seen he is a newbie and, so, it is safe to assume he didn't even know about WP:3RR. However, you've now informed him. If he keeps on edit warring, trying to put back in the article that piece of info, he should be reported (or, alternatively, we should get the page semiprotected). If, on the contrary, he's gotten the point, then all the better. Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 15:46, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I requested page protection at about 15:50. The editor was actually blocked 3 hours for wp:3RR violation, which expires around 21:10 30 May 2010. They didn't revert you so I don't know if blocking had any effect. Just have to wait and see! I didn't want to bite a (seemingly young) newbie either! --220.101.28.25 (talk) 19:58, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'll keep the article on my watchlist. But I hope he got the message... ;D (Thanks for the follow-up.) Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 20:00, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

inre Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alien vs Ninja

edit

I have no doubt that the nominator was correct in sending THIS to AFD. However, I'd ask that you might now revisit the article at Alien vs Ninja to see that the subject is not WP:Crystal and that per WP:GNG and improvements, it might even merit a "keep" or "incubate". Of course, you need not do so... I just thought to notify you of the changes. Best regards, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:02, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

First of all, I want to compliment you on your rescue of the article. And, as a consequence of it, I was glad to change my !vote to keep! Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 11:54, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much. My contributions stemmed from my realization that the author had not returned, even though he said he would.... and without at least some sort of improvement, the stub would likely be gone in a hurry. And since that kind of thing is what I'm pretty good at... and what like to do... well... I did it. I appreciate the vote of confidence. Best regards, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 16:24, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Badger Farm

edit

why are you deleting badger farm info when you clearly don't live in badger farm ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eharty9 (talkcontribs) 12:09, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Because you and someone else keep inserting in the article bits of info that are not encyclopaedic and that are about entirely unnotable people under our guidelines and, therefore, do not qualify for insertion.
I'm really sorry, but this is how Wikipedia works... Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 12:13, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Undead Dinosaurs From Hell

edit

A comment was left on my page regarding this - about legal action I believe. I am not in any shape going to take any legal action - had the post been read fully, you would have seen that I was contacted by the BAND and asked to display that for them. They have been having recurring discrimination issues with Wikipedia (they have told me). Being asked by another party (my next door neighbor) if I could write a Wikipedia article on the band, using my experience I began to do so. Not having sources, I stopped and decided I would finish once the page was up for the suicide prevention website. I feel discriminated against personally because all of the actions that have been taken towards me are rude, incompetent, and half of them are not even related to the article.

I disagree with the deletion - the band has highly affected the area, including my own children, and I believe them to be important figures. I would like to ask what I should tell the band regarding getting a page up on Wikipedia, so that they do not have to take legal action. They have a right to do so, I do not. I will inform them that it was deleted again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Automaticshutter (talk • --Automaticshutter (talk) 00:52, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I read your edit, but I used a template to inform you of our policy, preventing people from making legal threats, that's why it wasn't entirely accurate.
That said, Wikipedia works in a complex way: there are many guidelines and policies, governing the way we do things. One of these is the one about notability. To qualify for an article, something must be notable, that is to say it must have received coverage in what we call reliable sources. As far as bands are concerned, this is the relevant guideline. If a band doesn't meet our criteria, it does not qualify for insertion and, then, the article about it gets deleted. There's very little you or I can do.
And now, over to the legal threat part. I realize that it's not actually you the one suing Wikipedia, or whoever, but you should understand that Wikipedia works according to consensus. Using legal threats to get others to agree with you or to stop from doing something that you don't like is disruptive, because it prevents consensus from freely forming. That's why we block people who make legal threats, because it's disruptive and that's why I think your message can be interpreted as a legal threat.
I don't know how important this band really is. However, if it doesn't meet our criteria, its article will be deleted, even if you repost it (and, quite frankly, let me say that I don't know why they should sue us; I don't know how they'd make it stick, but this has actually nothing to do with me or my explanation).
If you have reliable sources — and self-published works are not considered as such —, then feel free to contact me again and I'll be more than happy to help you write this article. If you don't, please just understand that we're not deleting The Undead Dinosaurs From Hell's article out of spite or wickedness. But, the most important thing of all: avoid making legal threats, even if you're just repeating someone else's ones! Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 00:53, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have been on Wikipedia under multiple usernames for years, so explaining the policies is not necessary. I know how things work - which is why I was disappointed to see the article go. I personally would refer you to point number 5. They are part of ""Alive or Lifeless"", an indie record company, and have a contract to release two albums. They will be doing so with the first later this year. The second is set to release some time in 2011. From what I understand, they have met the criteria to be placed on Wikipedia (unless the policy has changed, and I have to wait until their first album is released).

--Automaticshutter (talk) 01:06, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

First of all, sorry for assumning a newbie and for explaining our policies. Now, I'm about to go to sleep, so my answer will be short (here it's 3:00am — I'm not trying to dismiss you): they should have released two or more albums, not have a contract to do it (but this is a little bit of wikilawyering).
By the way, is "Alive or lifeless" one of the more important indie labels under our policies?
Moreover, your article was speedied per A7, because it was deemed not to indicate why the band is significant (Facebook and MySpace do not really count; and the only apparent claim was the anti-suicide website, whose importance I cannot really fathom, but I don't want to second guess the reviewing admin who chose to delete the article). Hear It See It Music

edit

Some folks have edited the article Hear It See It Music. You were the first to welcome me as a junior editor, Thank you. As originator of the article I have new comments etc. on my talk page. Please review, I would like to hear your thoughts on the subject. TK5610L (talk) 01:12, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

First: if you wish to write your article on your space, before "going live" in the mainspace (which is a good idea to avoid new page patrollers and speedy deletions), you should create your own sandbox (you can do it here and not on your talk page, since that is used by other users to communicate with you).
From what I can see, your changes are good. My suggestion is to be bold and edit the article. The other users will be happy to tweak and correct your text, if needed. Don't be afraid to make mistakes: if you see something that could be improved, go ahead and improve it. Even if you were to foul up, no damage would be done: with one or two clicks, it would all be solved. (This doesn't clearly mean to be reckless, just not to be afraid to make mistakes, we all did them).
As I've written to Automaticshutter (talk · contribs) above, now I'm off to bed. Tomorrow I'll reply to your questions (the ones about the various things to correct, such as "few articles link to this" and so on) more to the point. ;) Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 01:31, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
