Hi, I noticed your edits on this page, and it seems to me that the result is still not a grammatical sentence, but this material is beyond anything I could hope to correct. Perhaps you can adjust it: "The extent to which this method is employed to bring out definitions implicit in the interlocutors' beliefs, or to help them further their understanding, it is called maieutics." i.e., "The extent to which ..., it is called maieutics. Perhaps the initial "To" belongs there? Over to you. Nadiatalent (talk) 01:15, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you. I agree. The second "to which" could be replaced with "that," to read: "To the extent that this method is employed to bring out definitions implicit in the interlocutors' beliefs, or to help them further their understanding, it is called maieutics." The sentence is still quite clumsy. I would prefer a complete rewrite to something like: "Use of this method to reveal the interlocutors' implicit beliefs, or to help them better understand each other, is called maieutics." (I am loathe to change others' work for fear of altering style.) What do you think? Samohtar (talk) 07:14, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- The recent change by Wran (talk) is interesting, perhaps they have a citation to add. I'll leave a note for them. Nadiatalent (talk) 11:22, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you. By the way, thank you, also, for the first entry on my My Talk page. I didn't know quite how I should begin. Samohtar (talk) 19:36, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
