Samvel Vanoyan was born in Yerevan in 1975. His love for painting since childhood encouraged him to attend National Aesthetic Centre in Yerevan (from 1982-1989) before going to school. From 1982-1992 he studied at the secondary school N57. He had his military service between 1994-1995 and took part in the military actions in Artsakh. Between 1996-2001 he studied in State Academy of Art in Yerevan and parallel to it he cooperated with Mechitarist Congregation as a miniaturist (1996-2003). The book “Colour The Bible” was his first illustrated book for children which was published in 1999. He gained his first work experience as an artist-designer (2004-2006) in “Zangak-97” Publishing House, where a number of books with his illustrations were published. Since 2007 he has been collaborating with “Grant Thornton Amyot” as an artist. Since 2008 he has been a member of cultural NGO “Art-Laboratory”. In 2007 he took part in the group exhibition-action “Not Standard N2” in the house-museum after Charents. In 2007 he took part in the group exhibition “A work behind the wall” in Contemporary Art Museum. Samvel took part in the group exhibition entitled “Empty Signs” in Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art in 2008. In 2008 he also participated in the“10th Yearly Alternative Art Festival” in Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art. In 2008 in State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin in St. Petersburg, Samvel participated in “International Exhibition of Calligraphy”. Participating in the “First Festival of Comic Strip” held in Yerevan in French Embassy Samvel gained the Grand Prix “Golden Pomegranate”. In 2008 he partook in the exhibition “Resistance” which was dedicated to the 1st of March case, and was held in Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educational Complex, Fine Arts College. Samvel Vanoyan’s first solo exhibition entitled “Subconscious Associations” was held in the Center For Contemporary Experimental Art (Yerevan 2008). Currently Samvel Vanoyan lives and creates in Yerevan.
