- Yes! To add your name to the end of the message, so I know who's speaking, write ~~~~, that will add your signature (name and date). Sam Walton (talk) 00:52, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
OK, so what exactly need I do to either get the Movie Fights portion of the Screen Junkies page back up or to make a new page? In the meantime, Andy (@andysignore) does have a link on his twitter to the old page, but of course, it cannot be further edited. Further, anyone going straight to wikipedia to find the summaries won't find anything. I would also ask about the Honest Trailers page, but I see you've made one. Is there anyway I'll be able to edit this? Andy asked me to add in a few things as I mentioned on your twitter just a few minutes ago. - Andrewjshick — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewjshick (talk • contribs) 01:06, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
I was going to delete it, but I want a website that I can retain that has the update info. Can you supply it to me so I can post it on youtube and twitter? Andrewjshick (talk) 18:00, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Andrewjshick: What do you mean? You want the wiki markup containing the info you were adding? You can access it by clicking on to the old revision then hitting edit, it will show the old page. Sam Walton (talk) 18:04, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Had to edit something, now trying to undo, say it can't be undone. Go ahead and remove it. Andrewjshick (talk) 18:10, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Never mind, got it to work. So, as for the Honest Trailers page that I now see is already up for deletion, what can be done about preserving that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewjshick (talk • contribs) 18:13, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Andrewjshick: Just let the discussion run its course and we'll see what the community decides. Sam Walton (talk) 18:15, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
When I click on other shows and competitions it lists statistical information about each show. Survivor for example, or Amazing Race, both of which have Who won, who when were people voted out or lost in what show in which order, how much they won by etc.
Why is Movie Fights a very popular multimillion view show with weekly installations on YouTube getting abused for "Not applicable for a WIKI article"? It seems to me that streaming media shows are suffering from prejudice! The information held on the WIKI page is useful information about the show just as much as contestant on shows like Survivor, Amazing Race, even "{county}'s Got Talent".
If you're going to focus on what is applicable for a WIKI article and remove statistical information about the show, then I suggest you also focus on ALL entertainment mediums and destroy information people want to see on ALL shows. You better want to be consistent otherwise you're just being prejudice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.118.223.9 (talk) 17:30, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
I strongly feel that there has been an unfair decision regarding the deleted page 'Sonia Anderson' This is a request to revert the decision.[----]

Hi, Sam, and thanks for taking the time to look at this AfD discussion. Obviously AfD isn't as simple as a 'vote' but this had 5 people arguing for deletion, and 4 for keeping, and you closed it as keep. At the best it seemed to be no consensus, and a relisting might have helped develop one. Would you consider undoing the closure and relisting instead? Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 13:33, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Boleyn. Here's what I was thinking when I closed that AfD:
- The first two voters initially voted delete due to non-notability. No explanation was made as to whether these users searched for sources, just that the article currently did not appear to adequately demonstrate its notability, which seems to be an entirely fair argument.
- The next voter said they were "leaning more towards delete", but did post some coverage, saying that it probably wasn't enough.
- The next said that the article might be remade when notable. I'm not really sure how to take this comment but I weighed it as a standard delete vote.
- I disregarded the next keep vote since coverage from Youtubers doesn't demonstrate notability.
- Czar then posted a list of good sources covering the game which adequately demonstrated its notability.
- Two voters then agreed that this was enough and another changed their delete vote to a weak delete.
- The last two points swayed me most - it seemed that a consensus had been drawn that these sources were sufficient. The fact there was no rebuttal to these sources, one delete voter changed to weak delete, and the original delete votes were not particularly convincing led me to close as keep. I therefore stand by my decision to close, I think that relisting would only result in more users agreeing that Czar's numerous sources are sufficient. Feel free to take this to DRV if you disagree though. Sam Walton (talk) 22:42, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

auto-revert of justified edits
editA user added information to the article on Recognition of same-sex unions in Europe that doesn't really belong there [1] [2]. I removed it. My edits were auto-reverted. For an IP there's no chance of undoing large edits without having them auto-reverted. Also an edit meant to update information on something else [3] was auto-reverted. Now the page is even semi-protected. If you check article's history and talk page you'll see that the article doesn't have any issues with vandalism. Edits are done by consensus. So please restore the article to its version as of 17 June 2015 - 07:39 and allow justified edits to be done.176.4.92.144 (talk) 14:41, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hi. The reason was that you didn't explain why you were removing the content and then proceeded to edit war your changes in, without discussion. Please take this opportunity to go to Talk:Recognition of same-sex unions in Europe and discuss why you don't think the content belongs there. Sam Walton (talk) 14:52, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
Providing an edit summary or not doesn't make a difference. Undoing large edits gets always reverted when editing as an IP. There is no need for going to the talk page. The article is about recognition of same-sex unions, about the availability of civil unions and/or marriage. It's not about non-recognition. As said - check article's history and talk page and you'll see edits are done by consensus. Auto-reverts are the only "vandalism" done to that article.46.114.105.213 (talk) 15:10, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- It does make a difference - someone added well sourced content and you removed it without explaining why. If you disagree with the content, please argue why you disagree with it on the talk page. I agree this might have been a little heavy handed, but the correct approach is to reach a consensus on the talk page, not edit war your preferred version. Sam Walton (talk) 15:14, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- That "well sourced content" is already available in other articles - articles where it does belong to, articles that deal with non-recognition, too. LGBT rights in Europe, LGBT rights in the European Union and all respective articles Recognition of same-sex unions in (country-this-and-that). The article in question mentiones that information only in its introduction - and there has been consensus on it for a long long time.
- But then comes that first-time editor, makes such a big change to the article, without seeking consensus first - and now the article is even semi-protected, protecting their version ? That's just weird.46.114.105.213 (talk) 15:28, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- You make fair arguments about the content, so I've started a discussion for you here. There's no need to gain a consensus for removing it first, but explaining somewhere why you're removing it would have been the correct move. Sam Walton (talk) 15:32, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- "Explaining somewhere" doesn't make a difference. Blanking sections gets auto-reverted anyways (when editing as an IP) - whether or not there is an edit summary. (my humble experience)
- There was NO proper user who complained, NO proper user to "edit war" with. Edits were just auto-reverted!46.114.105.213 (talk) 16:50, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

At last! :-)
editHello Samwalton,
At last! Someone took the ropes at last and did it. Jeez that took long! I almost fell like a clown there presenting his awful policy violating edits for days. You already (thanks for doing that already) deleted that hoax "Azad empire" of his, but he sneakily re-created it in a sandbox; [4] Any way we can have this deleted including the edit summary?
There are some more copy-vio violating pics and "maps" he uploaded as well that are currently being deleted. Want me to link them here so it can be done instantly?
Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 11:36, 23 June 2015 (UTC)
- I don't think there's any harm in the sandbox, but if you have any more copyvios then do let me know, I found one or two already but haven't taken a proper look through their contribs. Sam Walton (talk) 11:43, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello, after reading this talk page and artin mehraban talk page, I found that you are reverting his edits meanwhile he put a list of so called "bad edits" on his talk page. Here is the list if you didn't already revert them. Just thought you might be interested.
list: Karim Hakimi (image of the article) Also some editor added a link to CAD when the dollar sign was shown. what he did: $. this is the wrong CAD and needs to be changed to canadian dollar: $ Karim khan zand (i added a cloured version of the original portrait. pretty sure its not a copyright vio but just in case, i added it here) Coele-Syria. I added the Persian period, without realizing that, the article was about a Macedonian province, and not a syrian region. (the maps of the achaemenid empire need to be removed basically) list of kings of persia section median empire. (I added kashtariti as a predessesor of deioces, though he wasnt and was simply the leader of a city. I would like any editor who removes this edit, to also add kashtariti as deioces father (in the family relations section. of course if im wrong dont add that) list of kings of persia sections: Muzaffarids, kara koyunlu, ak koyunlu (Those empires were originally shown in a different way and i made them in the same format as the other empires. but i didnt make any links to other articles example: Nader Shah. though the information is accurate and you will find sources (wikipedia also states the same details that i included but alas wikipedia articles cant be used by wikipedia as a source), there are a few issues and instead of reverting, i would like editors to fix this problem. i just didnt see why those 3 dynasties had to be formatted differently for some reason. And yes their territories included parts of modern day iran. in fact the muzzafarids were right in the middle of modern iran, while the ak koyunlu's borders seem to be based of the iranian plateau according to the map. and the kara koyunlu ruled iranian azerbaijan. I beleive i also made a few errors with the dating. I also wanna let editors know that in arabic, ibn means son of. so if one of their full names is for example: artin ibn amir, then you know that kings father/family relation is amir. walter koenig )I added an image of walters koenigs signature according to his website. i claimed it as my own and so it was removed. id like someone to upload it as copyrighted and to explain why it is in fair use.)
Considering he's tried 3 times to get unbanned he seems pretty desperate. Here is his final beg for mercy (copy and paste so it's in his own words):
I have since stopped my copyright infringes. Since Lois aragons last rant I have stopped added own research images and articles and I have stopped adding copyright infringement. And I must admit it was a mistake to make the page Azad empire but if Azad khan afghan declares himself King then there must have been an empire. He did rule over a geographical entity and participated in wars to expand his borders. His ability to circulate currency is further evidence. On my edit I added sources to prove he was a king not to prove his empires existence though he did rule over a geographical entity since it was list of KINGS of Persia not list of Empires of Persia. It was not a hoax article the empire existed and he even circulated currency. But it had no name and was small and unpopular. But that geographic entity existed and there were wars to keep it alive. Out of lack of any name provided by historians I did what happens to many other empires and named it after it's first king Azad khan afghan. Same happened with the Ottoman Empire with its first king being osman. All evidence of what I just said can be found in the reference list of Azad khan afghan article and my reverted edits on list of KINGS of Persia. Meeeep101 (talk) 21:47, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
look I am sorry and I wont make copyright vios or hoax pages again. I don't do these things on purpose. I didn't mean to vandalize Wikipedia. I just love persian history and I was just trying to contribute with good intention. Please give me 1 more chance to prove I will never make copyright violations ever.
Please give me a second chance. Artin Mehraban101 (talk) 13:00, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

FRIMO
editHi, You just deleted my page on FRIMO, and I'm wondering why it was seen as advertisement. I've been going off of other Wikipedia articles about companies, and I thought my content was pretty similar to others. This is my first Wikipedia article, so I was also trying to work on the things that were posted before you deleted it. I took a lot of stuff out that might have been promotional, and I'm not sure what might have been left. Could you please either help me work on it so I can repost it or make it so I can get what I already had done into a Word document? Thanks, Oconna78 (talk) 09:47, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Oconna78. I've placed your article at User:Oconna78/FRIMO, which is within your own userspace and won't be deleted. As for advertisements:
- You should cite reliable sources of information for your article content - only writing what reliable sources have covered.
- You shouldn't include arbitrary lists of products or services if they haven't been written about in reliable sources.
- Press Releases shouldn't be cited.
- The primary reason was the lack of sources and promotional language though. Hope that helps, Sam Walton (talk) 09:58, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Edit filter at Penal Code (Singapore)
editCould you please look at the article Penal Code (Singapore)?
I attempted to introduce the new legal definition of rape which is:
Rape
375.—(1) Any man who penetrates the vagina of a woman with his penis —
(a) without her consent; or
(b) with or without her consent, when she is under 14 years of age, shall be guilty of an offence.
[19].
The definition from the article is outdated so I tried to replace it. The filter blocked me. Could you fix that? Thanks.188.25.170.21 (talk) 02:36, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia Science Conference
editHi, this is another update on the Wikipedia Science Conference taking place in London on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd of September.
- Booking has opened at just 29 pounds, including lunch on both days.
- Take a look at the (pretty much final) programme if you haven’t seen it yet. With 18 plenary speakers - three from overseas - as well as the large unconference section, there’s a lot going on, and the Royal Society of Chemistry is sponsoring a wine reception in the evening.
- We are also in the full swing of publicity. Emails have been, and are, going out to funders, scholarly societies, and university departments, but any additional promotion is appreciated. Please share a link, or tell colleagues in relevant fora. All publicity material for the conference is, of course, freely licenced for you to adapt.
- After the conference there will be two hackathons: one Cambridge on the Friday, the other hosted by Wikimedia UK in London on the Saturday. These are being led by Daniel Mietchen and Stefan Kasberger. Follow the link for more details.
I hope you’re excited as I am about this event. Cheers, MartinPoulter (talk) 18:12, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
Delete this image
editHello, Sam, it's Coderenius again. I just need you to quickly delete this image, no questions asked. I uploaded it by mistake, but since after you upload it there's no way to delete it unless you're an admin, I can't delete it. I feel it's kind of ridiculous, not being able to at least delete files that you uploaded yourself, but hey, it is the way it is. So stop on by, and just delete it for me. Thank you! Coderenius (talk) 14:18, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Coderenius! I actually can't delete that image because it's located over at Wikimedia Commons, a separate project from the English Wikipedia where I am an admin. I'm not an admin at Commons so I can't delete it, however I notice a bot has detected that the Commons license was incompatible with the freely licensed requirement of Commons and has tagged it for deletion; a Commons admin will likely delete it shortly :) In the future this page has some guidance on how you could tag it for deletion yourself. Sam Walton (talk) 14:21, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, OK, I understand! Thanks! I'll also check the link out. Coderenius (talk) 14:24, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

editNo, don't worry, I'm not giving you one (you don't need it :) ) You asked about it though. It's a custom template based on Isiah Mustaffa's Old Spice Commercials, it's specifically directed at vandals. I don't give it out to every vandal I find, just specific cases, I.E: Vandal repeatedly vandalized the same page after being warned typically I'd use it in that case on 3RR, or if the vandal's been warned by others and they're vandalizing the same page over and over, I'll put one on. - Actually, a parody of this (the old spice ads from Isiah Mustafa) got used during the London Riots | check here for examples, so this crossed over to the UK.
With that in mind, I used that template sparingly anyhow. KoshVorlon We are all Kosh 10:55, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
an invitation
editHi,
This is an invitation to Edit filter managers and patrollers who refer to edit filters from your wiki project to share and know about effective public filters from various wikimedia wiki projects.
It is almost six years since March 2009, that Edit filters are in use on various Wikimedia wiki projects. At meta we have started a platform page m:Edit filters benefiting to various local Wikiprojects to know good and effective (public) edit filters by sharing of relevant information with rest of wikimedia community. This will help editfilter managers, and there by concerned projects, to benefit from maximising potential of best possible (public) edit filters.
We are keen to have your participation in this collaborative and constructive endeavour and the discussions.

Computer Space
editHey,
Happy to provide some sources. The early Syzygy/Atari history is pretty convoluted due to a lot of contradictions and misconceptions, so it can be a real chore to navigate. This blog post at They Create Worlds tries to pin down the dates that the Syzygy partnership began and also provides links to some other useful articles and sites. It would be particularly worth checking out Benj Edwards' excellent article on the creation of Computer Space (though it has some date problems due to Ted Dabney's most likely incorrect recollections of when work on the game started) and the Atari History Timelines maintained by Michael Current. Keith Smith of All in Color for a Quarter has also been posting large chunks of the Nolan Bushnell depositions referenced in the blog post on They Create Worlds, though I cannot recall if he has posted the relevant sections about the development of Computer Space. Hope that helps! Indrian (talk) 17:59, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

DYK review
editGood day to you, Sam! If you don't remember me, I'm Coderenius, and I have spoken to you in the past about a couple of things (see here) :) Now, I'd like to ask you if you would mind reviewing this article. It was created by my new friend and stellar Wikipedian C.G, knowing I would take interest in expanding it. After that I took the reins and to this day, basically all the expansion, writing, and editing was done by me. After I finished my initial work on the article, I nominated it for Did You Know and it is still there, waiting for review. That is why I would love it if you could stop by and review it (here) to see if it meets the requirements for DYK and to schedule a date for it to appear, as well as additional feedback (if you have any) which you can let me know about on my talk page. Thank you! The best, Coderenius (talk) 22:56, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- I'm sorry Sam, disregard this whole post. Someone has already reviewed it, but only after I posted this. If this has anything to do with you, then by all means thank you! If not, then still feel free to provide feedback :) Good day, Coderenius (talk) 03:07, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Coderenius: Nothing to do with me, didn't even see your first message before your second! Looks like you don't have much to do before it's accepted. Great looking article by the way. It's my graduation today but I might look through the article properly tomorrow to see if I can improve on it at all :) Sam Walton (talk) 08:04, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
- My sincerest congratulations on your graduation. Have an excellent day, and I will come back to you tomorrow. I have addressed some of the issues with the article required for DYK already, so I'll bring it to the attention of the reviewer. Cum respectu, Coderenius (talk) 17:02, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

volunteer metrics coordinator
edit- Hey. If I may ask, what exactly does a volunteer metrics coordinator do? Tks • Lingzhi♦(talk) 09:06, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Lingzhi: I collect information on the numbers of links to Wikipedia Library partners' sources and send them reports on how those numbers have changed over the course of the partnership so they can see how Wikipedia editors are using their sources. Sam Walton (talk) 09:20, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Made 2015 World Tour
editI created a page of Big Bang Made 2015 World Tour months, but it got deleted first time because the lack on information the tour have, also it was too early for it, so I put it on the List of Big Bang concert tours, for the past months the section of the tour has been growing, and it's become big to be in the list, it needs a separate page, so I asked on the talk page about it, and there is no object about it, so I created the page again, and it's deleted again! I don't know what processes should I follow to have a chance to make the page again, could you please help. Thank you CesarLeto (talk) 19:12, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
- @CesarLeto: Hmm. It was deleted under G4, but that's for identical copies after a deletion discussion, and looking at the article it does appear to have had extra sources added to it and be somewhat different to the article deleted at AfD. I think it might actually have been different enough that a fresh AfD discussion should have been the appropriate deletion path. Pinging Jackmcbarn who deleted the latest version. Sam Walton (talk) 10:30, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
- I agree they're a little bit different, but I'm not sure they're different enough to invalidate the G4. If the circumstances around the topic have changed, perhaps a deletion review would be the best route. Thoughts? Jackmcbarn (talk) 15:41, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
- Agreed actually. CesarLeto, you should open a DRV discussion regarding the tour to see if it should have an article now. Sam Walton (talk) 15:44, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Edit filter to stop article replacements
editI'm wondering if an edit filter can be created to stop these kinds of edits. [31], [32], [33] --NeilN talk to me 01:51, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
- @NeilN: If that's possible it's beyond my abilities writing filters. The filter is best at simpler things like reading old and new texts, edit lengths, and user info (edit count, username, etc). I don't know if this would be possible, and if it is I don't know how to do it! Pinging MusikAnimal and Dragons flight who might have some ideas. Sam Walton (talk) 10:39, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
- We could do a check to make sure
article_prefixedtext
(page title) is innew_wikitext
. That should catch these examples, but checking the whole wikitext on every edit sounds expensive, particularly for larger articles. Maybe we could restrict it to when the size of the diff is so big. Are there any cases where wouldn't have the page title in the article? E.g. perhaps the title is plural but the mention in the lead is singular. — MusikAnimal talk 13:28, 22 July 2015 (UTC)- @MusikAnimal: That's a good idea. What about when we have, for example, Google (company); that wouldn't be in the article text right? Sam Walton (talk) 19:46, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
- Exactly. I'm not sure if it's practical unless we have some kind of fuzzy search tool. Even then, the singular versus plural usage might still throw false positives. I'm going to guess a filter like this isn't feasible. At the very least, I worry it'd end up being more of an enforcement than prevention of abuse, because remember we have new users creating new articles all the time, unfamiliar with our manual of style (mentioning the subject in the lead). I suppose you could also check the age of the article, etc, sounds too complicated. Fortunately we've got a fleet of diligent patrollers, including ClueBot who should revert these types of edits :) — MusikAnimal talk 19:56, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

Your User page: Userboxes issue
editHello Samwalton9! I just thought I'd let you know that your list of Userboxes doesn't seem to display properly in the later version of Firefox. The issue seems to be this: <center>{{adminstats|Samwalton9}}<center/>
. Even in Safari, that doesn't successfully "center" the {{adminstats}} box, but in Firefox it actually forces the {{adminstats}} box out of the list of userboxes and off the edge of the page!! I've tried to figure out how you "center" something like the {{adminstats}} box inside Userboxes like this, and have had no luck, so far. My advice would be to just eliminate the <center>...<center/>
code for now. Just thought you should know! --IJBall (contribs • talk) 20:01, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- @IJBall: Hm, so it does! How odd. Thanks for letting me know, and for looking into fixes; it annoyed me that the adminstats box was smaller and to the side when all the userboxes were the same size! Sam Walton (talk) 20:03, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hey, and can we just ignore my typo in this topic head?... In any case, if you figure out a way to center stuff like that inside the list of userboxes, please let me know, as that's the kind of thing that will probably prove useful at some point! --IJBall (contribs • talk) 20:07, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- I didn't even notice :) Sam Walton (talk) 20:07, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- The issue is you really want to style the margin properties on the table within {{adminstats}}, which is actually generated by the bot, and apparently there's no provided way to pass in CSS via template parameters. So, I instead put an
display:inline-block
DIV around it to act as a "wrapper", so all you need to do then is center the wrapper. That was done by passing intext-align:center
to the {{Userboxtop}} template. FYI<center>
has long been deprecated from HTML and is likely why you were seeing inconsistent results across browsers. These days we use CSS to center things, but here on Wikipedia we have a handy template {{center}} that does the job for you in most cases. Here {{center}} doesn't work because we want the table to have the margin property, and not the wrapper that the center template provides. — MusikAnimal talk 21:15, 27 July 2015 (UTC)- I understood some of this. Thank you though! Sam Walton (talk) 22:23, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

editDude, I work for the NYC Parks The information on the website is public and I made sure to use the park's webpage as a reference and as an external link. Many of our park users learn about the city's parks through Wikipedia. It is vital that the park have its own Wikipedia page.
