Working Kline bibliography

edit

→NYT review describing Franz Kline's progress over time. I'd like to find another review that goes more in depth of this subject.

→This is an interesting article about Franz Kline and his suggested influences. I'm not sure if this is going to be wiki-appropriate because there are many conjectures made about who/what influenced Kline but I might be able to swing something to build out that section.

→Great article about Kline's progression and his history with other abstract expressionists. It also points to an article already used on the Kline wiki page (Elaine de Kooning's)

  • Messinger, Lisa Mintz. Abstract Expressionism: Works on Paper: Selections from The Metropolitan Museum of Art;. New York: Abrams, 1992. Print. ISBN: 0870996568

→This book (starting on p. 55) describes Kline's works and relationships to the other Abstract Expressionists of the time. It also uses some formal analysis that I'd like to bring into the page.

This is great; the amazing Francis Bacon article has the perfect balance of historical and formal analysis - it's robustly art-historical. I'm glad to see you thinking about this already! Aolivex (talk) 17:32, 23 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Christov-Bakargiev, Carolyn, and Franz Kline. Franz Kline, 1910-1962. Milan: Skira, 2004. Print. Call Number: N6512.5.A25 R43 2005

→I'm not sure how helpful this will be, but the catalog of his works will be a good reference to understand a timeline of his works. I might try and compile a list for the page about his most well-known works or exhibitions so that will help.

→This article is great to show critic reactions throughout time to Kline's style. It gives a less revered look at Kline's work and shows how many people didn't like what he was producing in the 50s.

This is also great, to shed a light on the reception of Kline's work. This is an important aspect of art-historical work. Many of the artists we love today were reviled in their own time, and the opposite is also true! Fun! Aolivex (talk) 17:32, 23 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
