I have moved Sateros/Sandbox to User:Sateros/Sandbox. — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 04:16, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for kindly moving the page. I just wonder how you knew that and why you did that...maybe against Wiki rule I guess.--Sateros (talk) 05:28, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
P.S. what I did was against Wiki rule I mean. Probably I should have done that to make a good subpage:) --Sateros (talk) 06:53, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Podostroma cornu-damae DYK

edit

Hi, I've moved your nomination of Podostroma cornu-damae to the correct section of T:TDYK, under "October 17" instead of at the top of the page. Mjroots (talk) 06:38, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Mjroots. Sorry, I put the article in the wrong section I guess.--Sateros (talk) 07:01, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ahh, 1st DYK submission eh? I was wondering whether it was down to the re-organisation of the hooks into "oldest first" order, but that's a mistake any new DYKer could have made. You only need 25 DYKs to get a shiny wikimedal! Mjroots (talk) 07:26, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I wish I could get the wikimedal. It must be hard, but I can give it a try.--Sateros (talk) 07:57, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

DYK nomination of Podostroma cornu-damae

edit

Hello! Your submission of Podostroma cornu-damae at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Sasata (talk) 19:09, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hey, can I ask how you know File:Podostroma cornu-damae.jpg is released under those licenses? I can't see anything on the source page (though I admit I don't read Japanese). J Milburn (talk) 10:57, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
The source photo is this. I used the license description there when uploading the file.--Sateros (talk) 11:20, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I can't say that that is much better- the same questions still stand, really. J Milburn (talk) 13:00, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
As I wrote at User talk:J Milburn, the source photo may be a questionable upload. And I just wonder what does it mean that the file has not been deleted for nearly a year after the caution? Do you think I should remove the file from en.Wikipedia anyway?--Sateros (talk) 13:56, 18 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't know how strict they are at the Japanese Wikipedia. I'm gonna have to nominate the picture for deletion unless you have any more information- otherwise, if you agree with me that it is a lost cause, I can delete it without having to go through the processes. I'd love to see every mushroom article illustrated, but at the same time we must respect the law and our policies. J Milburn (talk) 18:41, 20 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to be a pain, although the article is eligible now, it wouldn't have been before even if it was as long as it is now because articles need to be nominated within 5 days (maybe 10) of them being created, not the month that you waited. Just wanted to let you know so that if you write another article it doesn't miss being featured in DYK. If you speak Japanese, is there any chance you can translate the common name of the mushroom in Japanese to English? It would make for a better hook (if you check the nomination again, it should hopefully be used on Halloween). Smartse (talk) 22:33, 20 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
We can't translate a foreign common name and use it as an English common name; we can only use common names used in reliable sources. J Milburn (talk) 22:40, 20 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Dammit, oh well, maybe the latin name is better anyway as people will have no idea what Podostroma cornu-damae is. Smartse (talk) 09:50, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm not pretty sure what do you mean by "the common name", but the Japanese for Podostroma cornu-damae is カエンタケ meaning "flame (blaze) mushroom".--Sateros (talk) 00:41, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
See common name. We always name fungal articles after the specific name (Latin name) rather than the common name anyways. J Milburn (talk) 10:22, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oh, now I see. The common name of Chorioactis geaster is the devil's cigar or the Texas Star yes. And absence of the common name for Podostroma cornu-damae may mean that the fungus has never been found in USA or even in Europe. --Sateros (talk) 12:03, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Possibly unfree File:Podostroma cornu-damae.jpg

edit

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Podostroma cornu-damae.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. --J Milburn (talk) 00:14, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for taking time. I'll try to get in touch with the copyright holder "Kouchan" and ask him permission for Free Documentation License if he actually didn't grant that. --Sateros (talk) 01:15, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
The concern is that the author is not the Wikipedia user Kouchan, but the blogger here. I don't read Japanese- what does that page say about the author of the image? I'm assuming all the pics were taken by the same person? We need an email with a free release from them, not from the Wikipedia user. J Milburn (talk) 10:19, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I see. So the author needs to send an email with a free release himself right? OK I tell him. Could you post the email address to send to? And exactly all the pics are by Kouchan. I assume he would be glad to release them to Wikipedia because he said he attempted that before unsuccessfully. --Sateros (talk) 10:54, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
So "Kouchan" wrote the blog? It's fine if you get an email from him; you can then forward it to permissions@wikimedia.org with a note about where the image has been uploaded. (If it's in Japanese, perhaps provide a translation into English.) Also, please remember that they have to be released under a free license, not just with "Wikipedia has permission to use them". Let me know on my tlak page when the email has been sent to the Wikimedia address, and I'll do the rest. J Milburn (talk) 12:52, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Can I ask something? Suppose I get a mail with a free license from Kouchan and transfer to the address you posted, how do you verify the authenticity of the mail? If the author wants the file to be uploaded to Commons, who does that? Sorry I'm not familiar with licensing. --Sateros (talk) 13:44, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

MOTDs (This space for rent)

edit

You may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. This is due to the fact that not enough people are reviewing pending MOTDs here. Please help us keep the MOTD template alive and simply go and review a few of the MOTDs in the list. That way we can have a real MOTD in the future rather than re-using (This space for rent). Any help would be appreciated! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 13:05, 7 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

edit

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).
