Writing about yourself

You are welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, but it is not a social media site like Facebook or LinkedIn for people to write about themselves. It is a quite different sort of site, a project to build an encyclopedia, so it is selective about subjects for articles. Writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography.

Wikipedia user pages are not like those at social networking sites. Their use is explained at WP:NOTWEBHOST:

"Wikipedians have individual user pages, but they should be used primarily to present information relevant to work on the encyclopedia. Limited autobiographical information is allowed, but user pages do not serve as personal webpages, blogs, or repositories for large amounts of material irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia. If you want to post your résumé or make a personal webpage, please use one of the many free providers on the Internet or any hosting included with your Internet account. The focus of user pages should not be social networking or amusement, but rather providing a foundation for effective collaboration. Humorous pages that refer to Wikipedia in some way may be created in an appropriate namespace. Personal web pages are often speedily deleted."

Contested deletion

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (as this is not a promotional page. This page is of a General Counsel and Lawyer/Attorney Satish Kumar who has lot of achievements to his credit. He is the winner of the prestigious GC of the Year awarded by Legal 500 and also has won the Best Lawyer award by Indian National Bar council. Moreover, he is the most sought after person by the media industry for his comments and views on the contemporary legal issues happening across the globe. He has also been awarded as the Social Activist of the Year.

He is not into any business or money making through other means from the society. He is the most sought after General Counsel among the corporate. This page will only benefit the society at large with the knowledge enhancement) --Satish Kumar krishnamurthy (talk) 08:49, 25 August 2019 (UTC)

There are multiple problems with your submission. First of all, you placed it on your user page. As noted above, a user page is not an encyclopedia article. A user page is about you, the editor, and your activities as they relate to editing Wikipedia. The userpage guidelines detail what is considered appropriate content, and what is not. It is certainly not a personal website, social media site or space for self-promotion.

If you are the person you were attempting to write an article about, note that we highly discourage users from attempting to create an article about themselves (see Wikipedia:Autobiography). You aren't an objective judge of your own notability, and will find it very difficult to write about yourself from the required neutral point of view. Readers expect to find neutral articles written independently of their subject, not corporate or personal webpages, or platforms for advertising and self-promotion. That's why we demand that article content is verifiable by citing reliable and independent sources of information, and written in a dispassionate tone that is not praiseworthy. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 20:12, 25 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Satish Kumar krishnamurthy. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. I'm sorry, but  Draft:Lawyer Satish Kumar K has been deleted as meeting WP:CSD#G11. "This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to conform with Wikipedia:NOTFORPROMOTION." These must be rewritten from scratch from "reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject." See WP:RS.

Wikipedia:Identifying blatant advertising#Typical signs of blatant advertising contains information about content to avoid. For more information on content that may be perceived as promotional, click User:Dlohcierekim/promo. These are just rough guides. Pages can avoid all those pitfalls and still be glaringly obvious ad copy. Sometimes pages meeting WP:CSD#G11 give the appearance of an editor violating Wikipedia:Conflict of interest or WP:PAID. Please read and heed them if they apply to you. Please read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations.

There is a very common mistake of assuming that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to promotion for commercial gain, but that is not so. Sometimes creators of promotional content are bewildered that it is considered such. If one has has been trained to write or spent some time writing corporate documents or mission/vision statements or anything similar, they may simply be blind to the promotionality. It can be hard to unlearn.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources . Template:cite has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{references}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there.
