Your reply in the RD
editThanks for your (several :)) replies to my question in the Humanities RD. --Taraborn (talk) 08:47, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm... by the way... Is there any book about the subject that you particularly like? --Taraborn (talk) 11:07, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Just ordered that book from Amazon. Can't thank you enough for your advice :D ! --Taraborn (talk) 16:14, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Antonomasia
editThank you very much! But it's not quite what I'm looking for. The definition of Antonomasia seems to be when you replace the proper name of someone with a kind of expression, so instead of saying "Napoleon" you'd call him "The little corporal". What I'm after is when a famous person's name is used as a descriptor, from which you'd understand a personality trait. Eg, calling a little girl "a Lolita" or calling someone's efforts "Herculean" --Dweller (talk) 22:48, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- Aha! OK, nice one. Now you're talking. --Dweller (talk) 23:16, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I name-dropped you...

book covering
editHi, thanks for your answer on book covering. Can you also please tell me how long it will take for the solvent to dry out, and how long it takes for this to happen? Do you know if there is any hope of them solving this problem? Thanks, and regards, 203.221.127.114 (talk) 02:26, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Here is an example of the kind of stain that an adhesive can leave on a book as the solvent dries out. This was left by (I think) Sellotape on a copy of "Brave New World" dated 1960. So, it takes a period of years for the solvent to dry out, but if you love a book, you may end up keeping it for that long! SaundersW (talk) 14:39, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- thanks for the advice and the picture. I think I've seen stains like that, and depending on the book, I may have to live with them, since the alternative for paperbacks is to let the edges warp and peel, not much better, and a quicker way to ruin them also. 203.221.126.206 (talk) 05:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Pankhurst
editThank you very much for that scan! Interesting, and a nice sketch by the architect. The final monument did come out a little bit differently, though: they omitted the "bowls" at the ends of the half-rotunda, and the two plaques are facing inwards. A pity the brochure isn't in the public domain! Anyway, I'm still looking... Lupo 09:21, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
