Today we are going to insert segments about the molecular basis for fatality of MSUD, discovery of the gene and by whom, and perhaps some related images.

Summer: Prevalence and prevention Kate: Discovery of gene Darvia: expand on screening and testing section; foundations and resources Michaela: Pictures Courtney: Up to you (if you need a suggestion we thought maybe you could discuss long-term outlook)Kcoates13 (talk) 17:04, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hey, everyone. I uploaded short segments on Prevention and Prevalence of MSUD. Can you guys read through it when you get the chance? Schachts (talk) 17:32, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hey Courtney, here's a good source on Long-Term Outlook for patients with MSUD. It's one of the last paragraphs. Schachts (talk) 17:47, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hey, guys! Long-term outlook sounds good to me. I'll start doing some research. Cafpff (talk) 18:02, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I just added the Prevalence and Prevention paragraphs to the active Wikipedia article for MSUD. Schachts (talk) 18:23, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I am looking for pictures of symptoms and diagnosis tools that can be added. Michaelaal (talk) 18:33, 10 November 2016 (UTC)https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK1319/bin/msud-Image004.jpg This is the link to a picture but I cant figure out how to put the actual picture in the sandbox. I added a Prognosis section in the sandbox and discussed the implications of delayed diagnosis and treatment in infants born with MSUD. The site is here: http://patient.info/doctor/maple-syrup-urine-disease Schachts (talk) 17:13, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I also wrote a brief paragraph about prognosis and combined it with Summer's. My contribution was mostly about the struggles and regulation involving the diet of a MSUD patient. I reused this citation: https://www.disabled-world.com/disability/types/msud.php I'll be adding more to this prognosis section. Look for more edits! Cafpff (talk) 17:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I added a section on diagnosis and different cultures in the sandbox. I talked about fenugreek and the similarities with MSUD. I reused a citation from the active page. I am still looking into how to add pictures to the sandbox as well as looking into the different subtypes of MSUD.Michaelaal (talk) 19:12, 15 November 2016 (UTC) I just realized I added that section without being logged in so it says a random user added it. Im not sure how to change that.Reply

Michaela and I are meeting right now and saw that there are 5 clinical subtypes of the disease and the page just mentions them but does not explain them. We're trying to see if we can find more information on them to add to the page! Kcoates13 (talk) 02:03, 17 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'm having A LOT of trouble finding information about the discovery of the BCKDHA, BCKDHB, and DBT genes that are responsible for MSUD. I found one that seemed promising but it's a primary article. We may just have to leave this section out. Let me know if you guys find anything!Kcoates13 (talk) 02:26, 17 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I just added a subtypes section with information on the classic and intermediate subtypes. Michaela is going to add the intermittent and thiamine-resistant subtypes later. I also changed some small formatting things.Kcoates13 (talk) 03:51, 17 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hey, guys! Was just looking over the current MSUD on wikipedia (not ours) and saw that it mentioned how it was an autosomal recessive disorder, but didn't really go into what that meant or how that contributed to the risks. I decided to add a short risk factors section that I think will be helpful for people who may not be familiar with what exactly autosomal recessive means, but who want to know their chances of passing on the disorder to their children. I got info from the HealthLine website previously used, along with including a new citation from a site called DoveMed. Cafpff (talk) 23:46, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Also, I just fixed the sub-headings so that they all appear under the "contents" box. Feel free to change it around if you think it would look more organized another way. Cafpff (talk) 23:58, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hey guys, reporting that I wrote the parts on foundations and genetic screening last weekend Sunday 11/27. and also reporting that I was present at all group meetings. Let me know if you need me to make changes. I was having trouble using the talk page, but if you need me to upoad our group chat that we communicated on, ill see if I can.(Darvia Okoroigwe) DarviaOkoroigwe (talk) 16:21, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
