Hey
editPraise the Lord, a psychiatrist! Welcome to Wikipedia (I see you've been welcomed before, but one can never be welcome enough). I'm thrilled to see you are addressing the views expressed on some psychiatry-related topics. I've had the honour of defending the medical viewpoint in a few discussions, despite having had fairly limited exposure to clinical psychiatry.
Please let me know if there are any issues I could help with. You have already shown on talk:Psychiatry that the only solution to neutrality debates is evidence, evidence and more evidence. Well done. Cheers. JFW | T@lk 02:13, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- When it comes to what we should perhaps call clinical apologetics, the most important character attribute is patience, followed by persistence. We have several key policies, and citing them judiciously is a vital tool in guiding debates on article content: WP:NPOV (bias issues), WP:NOR (brand new theories and interpretations), WP:V and WP:CITE (accuracy and verifiability issues), and the guidelines WP:AGF (assume good faith) and WP:NPA (no personal attacks). If a debate is unsolveable, early requests for community opinion on WP:RFC can be very helpful. Irrational attacks and undesirable behaviour is best reported on WP:ANI (the administrators' noticeboard).
- Alphabet soup, innit? But in the end it's great fun. Having access to a repository of citation is immensely helpful. JFW | T@lk 11:43, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi !
editI just wanted to say "hi" ... I'm fairly new to Wikipedia, a layperson, and have been attemtping (mostly in vain), for about a month, to clean up the Tourette syndrome article. If you ever want to have a look, I could sure use some input ... I'm not a good writer, or a medical professional, but the article was in such dismal shape at the end of '05, that I decided to dig in and do what I could! Sandy 22:03, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Anti-psychiatry
editThanks for your praise! It been hard work (perhaps the most difficult experience i've had on Wikipedia so far) but worth it. And i've learnt a lot about the field of psychiatry in the process. Perhaps when the job is done, i'll drop into the psychiatry page to learn more - as i've been purposely avoiding it so not to bias myself. Thanks again. Rockpocket 07:15, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
prisoners...
editthey were due to be hanged at Tyburn, some distance from Newgate. Maybe "Tried in exchange for their freedom on prisoners who were due to be hanged..." Midgley 08:59, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
“Medicine” on MCOTW
editAfter a bit of inactivity, Medicine has been selected as the new medicine collaboration of the week. I am taking the unusual step of informing all participants, not just those who voted for it, since I feel that it is important that this highest-level topic for our collaboration be extremely well-written. In addition, it is a core topic for Wikipedia 1.0 and serves as the introduction to our other articles. Yet general articles are the ones that are most difficult for individuals to write, which is why I have invited all participants. I hope it isn't an intrusion; I don't make plan to make a habit of sending out these messages. — Knowledge Seeker দ 02:16, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
Psychology Wiki
editHi Scot,
I noticed that you are a physician working in psychiatry, and thought you might be interested in this project which I am involved in, The Psychology Wiki.
I won't say too much, as I'd like you to judge it for yourself, but you should find that it is different from Wikipedia, because approximately 90% of our contributors so far are psychologists, academics, or students and trainees.
Its hosted by a company called Wikia, which was founded by Jimmy Wales and Angela Beesley. There are Google Ads on the site, but we dont make money from the project, they're just to pay for the bandwidth, storage and technical support that Wikia give us.
Have a look and see what you think. You may enjoy contributing in an academic community.
Hi,
the main page of WikiProject Medicine has just been redesigned, comments are welcome! Please consider listing yourself as a participant.

The Wikipedia Library now offering accounts from Cochrane Collaboration (sign up!)
editThe Wikipedia Library gets Wikipedia editors free access to reliable sources that are behind paywalls. Because you are signed on as a medical editor, I thought you'd want to know about our most recent donation from Cochrane Collaboration.
- Cochrane Collaboration is an independent medical nonprofit organization that conducts systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials of health-care interventions, which it then publishes in the Cochrane Library.
- Cochrane has generously agreed to give free, full-access accounts to 100 medical editors. Individual access would otherwise cost between $300 and $800 per account.
- If you are still active as a medical editor, come and sign up :)
