Re: Spirulina cephalopod confusion

edit

Hi ScottHW. Spirulina is a suborder of cephalopods. As we don't have a separate article on this group, I redirected Spirulina (suborder) to its parent taxon Spirulida (the latter article includes Spirulina in its classification section). Is there another Spirulina suborder that this clashes with? mgiganteus1 (talk) 21:48, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

No doubt, spirulina is overwhelmingly used in reference to the dietary supplement, but I don't see where the problem arises with Spirulina (suborder). The cyanobacterial Spirulina is at a different rank (genus) and, as far as I can see, "Spirulina (suborder)" unambiguously refers to the cephalopod group. A case could probably be made for the dietary supplement being the primary topic under that name, and therefore for moving Spirulina (dietary supplement) to Spirulina and Spirulina to Spirulina (disambiguation), but again I don't see what this has to do with Spirulina (suborder) in particular. mgiganteus1 (talk) 22:25, 15 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Dundee Community Garden

edit

The article Dundee Community Garden has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi ScottHW -- I support Keeping the article, and commented so at the ArticlesForDeletion discussion. I hope you are not turned off too much by the nomination. At the AFD, i suggest that an alternative to deleting could be the redirection/merger of the article into a new List of community gardens in Nebraska. I do think it is pretty obvious that there is coverage of that larger topic, and a list-article can include an item on the Dundee one, and the list-article would not be vulnerable to deletion happening. If you would start that list-article, I volunteer to help develop it. If the list-article exists, then the history of the Dundee article would be saved in the redirect's history, and the Dundee article could be re-started sometime later when there is more coverage known. If the list-article doesn't exist, I think it is most likely that the AFD will be closed with decision to delete. That's my best guess. Either way, I hope you are not unduly discouraged and continue to contribute in Wikipedia. Cheers, --doncram 23:04, 20 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Got your reply at my Talk page. Glad you understood my good wishes, and that you added more references and have even more to add. Please do add. By the way, i actually sorta think the carrying of a giant carrot by the organization is funny, maybe newsworthy, so if you happen to have a picture or could round one up of that, I personally think that would support keeping the article. cheers, --doncram 13:03, 21 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'd like it if you would start List of community gardens in Nebraska. I cannot, due to an editing restriction, but i would develop it. I think having it would support, or at least not detract, from the DCG article's chances of surviving now. I added a bit more there; didn't you say you have some more to add, too? --doncram 18:24, 22 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid that I've had to take a position opposite to yours at this AfD discussion. This isn't a reflection on your contributions as a Wikipedian—I see that you've added some valuable material on Omaha subjects. Unfortunately, I just can't see that DCG has sufficient notability to justify a WP article.
I notice that in your first comment, dated May 20, you began with a boldfaced "Keep"; and that you did the same in your May 21 comment. Could I suggest that you remove the bolded "Keep" from the second? I'm sure it wasn't intentional on your part, but it could confuse readers trying to gauge the article's support by counting the bolded words, and could give the impression that you're trying to create a spurious appearance of popular support for keeping the article.
Hope that you'll continue working on Omaha subjects. User:Freechild did a lot of great work in Omaha in past years; unfortunately, he seems to have moved on to other things.
Incidentally, if you're working up articles on Nebraska subjects and you'd like them illustrated, please feel free to drop me a line. I do lots of photography (more quantity than quality, I'm afraid) for WP in Nebraska, and would be happy to add some of your subjects to my things-to-photograph list. notification, and note post-AFDs cessation of editing

edit

Hi ScottHW. I came here to notify you that I mentioned you at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification_and_Amendment#Amendment_request:_Infoboxes, which I believe I am required to do. I commented there about the AFDs and so on about Dundee Community Garden and List of community gardens in Omaha, Nebraska, and so on, in which i thought you were treated badly. I am sorry to further note, now, that your contributions history shows that you have not edited since May 2014 when those AFDs were concluded. I am sorry, myself, that you were treated badly in my view, and that Wikipedia seems to have lost your continuing contributions. Hope you are well. --doncram 20:27, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
