At Wikipedia, the job we are doing is to summarize the published literature.

You appear to think the job is to throw out some of the literature that doesn't fit your viewpoint. The best you can achieve toward that goal is to tell the reader about the outlier opinion (the one you don't like) but counter it with more opinions that form a consensus because of their greater number.

Regarding album genres: Sources describing the overal album genre are what we use to list album genres. Sources describing the artist's musical style should not be transferred to the album. Sources describing the various songs in the album are not added up to create an album genre. The overall album genre comes only from sources talking about that exact thing. Hi, I really do apologize if my editing has come off as disruptive. I just realized now that my second edit didn't go through for some reason, so my reasoning for removing the "chamber rock" genre was never shared. I am very sorry for the lack of discussion on that part. I understand that sources describing the overall album genre is how you come up the genre list for an album, my problem is that the individual songs are what should be making up that genre. This isn't just an opinion, only three songs have been called "alternative rock" yet a much larger amount have been called folk (or a subgenre/other form of folk). Even if more sources call it alternative, having that as the lead genre is inaccurate because the songs are what make up the genre. There are also three songs listed as a form of country, which is just as many as alternative. Regarding chamber rock, it's the same type of scenario but there are literally zero songs on the album listed as "chamber rock" for this one. If it's supposed to be synonymous with chamber pop (which is already a subgenre of rock) then there is one chamber rock song on the album in gold rush, but the genre of one song doesn't define the whole album. Swift had two country songs on her 2019 album Lover, but no one was calling it a country album. I understand how things are done here on Wikipedia, I really do, I just think that sometimes "original research" can be heavily supported without a source to make an article more accurate. People always say "I read this on Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt" and that can only change if people are willing to edit outside the box a little. I'm not saying people should be able to edit and do whatever they want on this site, of course, but I feel that if editors can use their own brain just a little and present their reasoning for certain small edits then that could lead to articles being more accurate in categorization. Just yesterday some friends and I were looking at a page for an album and laughing about the genre because it was just completely inaccurate. Genres should be as accurate as possible since categorization is an important part of music, in my opinion, but that's just my opinion. If Wikipedia wants to improve, then the two options are to actually try to think about the specific songs, or to remove genres completely. If movies don't have genres, then it might be time for songs too. I made a detailed but long post on the talk page for Evermore about my personal thoughts on the album, however I also included facts about the situation and explained everything much better. Please, if you can, read through the post. There are a few more things I want to ask. First, when you say "Sources describing the artist's musical style should not be transferred to the album" are you just trying to bring that up as a general statement about the genre of albums, or is it directed towards something I edited on Evermore? I can't think of how this applies to the situation in any way. Also, I want to say I'm a bit worried about how this interaction is going to go, and whether this will go anywhere or not. I'm not trying to call you out, just using this situation as an example, but in May of this year, I removed the "pop rock" genre from the page of Sparks Fly by Swift (it was not sourced) and added arena rock, which was sourced. When I first did the edit, you reverted it and said "rv unsupported genre." I edited it back after and it hasn't changed since then. I've seen similar situations from looking through the edit history on some other songs, but this makes me feel like editors are quick to edit something without actually looking at all the details or seeing what the other editors have said. A little over a week ago, an edit war was happening for Swift's 2017 album Reputation on the genre because one side just didn't seem to care at all about anything that the other was saying. So if you're going to respond, I just want to say I'd appreciate if you read through all of this and even my post on the talk page of Evermore if you have the time. Sorry for writing a lot, this was meant to be much shorter but I have a lot to say when it comes to certain things such as categorization of music. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
