Hello, Sdornan, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.

Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username.
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

Abbey Road edits

edit

I just reverted your edits to the Abbey Road (album) page, because you seemed to make a number of major changes without providing an explanation for them, except the word 'Infobox' in your edit summary. Can you provide any references for the changes? Flowerparty 21:02, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Looking more closely, it seems you've accidentally edited an out of date version of the page, so your changes were just undoing a load of other people's chabges. Sorry about that - I was worried you were up to some insidious new form of vandalism, I'm afraid. If you edit an old version of a page there should be a big pink warning bar at the top of the edit box, so you might want to look out for that in future. Ok then, keep up the good work. :) Flowerparty 02:00, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

NBA Street move

edit

A tag has been placed on NBA Street, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Moved NBA Street to NBA Street (series), and so I am requesting to delete this page in order to move NBA Street (video game) here.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. 18:48, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Your move of Command & Conquer (video game)

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, articles should not be moved, as you did to Command & Conquer (video game), without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. We have some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. First, I want to point out that you moved the page back afterwards, so I guess you understand your mistake. Nevertheless, the move was wrong to make in the first place. If you had looked at the talk page you would have seen a discussion about this. If you feel that a previous move was wrong, especially if it already has a attached discussion, discuss it on the talk page bofore reverting the move. Thank you. --MrStalker talk 16:57, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Edit summaries

edit

Hello, I have noticed that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! Fair use rationale for Image:Madden 97 Cover.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Madden 97 Cover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. CSD on Dick Lane

edit

I do not believe that this article will ever meet WP:AFD let alone WP:CSD, so if you want to consider it for deletion, you might want to try the AFD process. Juan Miguel Fangio| ►Chat  20:48, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I moved the Dick Lane page to Dick Lane (American football) for disambiguation, decided to keep articles title as they were, with the football player located at Dick Lane, and created Dick Lane (disambiguation) as the disambiguation page since the football player is the most notable of the people named Dick Lane. Please don't removed my CSD. Thanks. Sdornan 20:49, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

What I am trying to do is simply revert the pages back to how they were. Dick Lane was the original title of the article, not Dick Lane (American football). I made the Dick Lane (American football) article myself to made Dick Lane a disambiguation page. Then I realized that Dick Lane should remain where he was, (without American football disambiguation), as it is the primary use of the word, per WP:D#Primary topic. As you can see here, Special:Whatlinkshere/Dick Lane (American football), many pages that link to Dick Lane are being redirected. All I am trying to do is reverse what I did, and put the page back like it was. As you can see at Special:Movepage/Dick Lane, I made the move myself and merely want to reverse this move. Hey. I'm coming here to you because I see you have made a lot of edits to this page. I made an edit to the page which Jmfangio mostly reverted because we've had some recent history. He reverted my changes because I didn't discuss them and because of the recent history between us. I made the change again, and I ask you: do you think there's anything wrong with this edit ([1])? Ksy92003(talk) 23:22, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

The links to the data are there. Are you saying that the simple act of adding and dividing the numbers makes it unreferenced? I can post the whole damn spreadsheet if you want. My point is that, compared with modern-day kickers, Stenerud's stats look below average, and that's all a lot of younger fans know.

Redirect of A place to bury strangers

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on A place to bury strangers, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because A place to bury strangers is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting A place to bury strangers, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Fair use rationale for Image:NFL_Quarterback_Club_98.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:NFL_Quarterback_Club_98.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Billion dollar babies cover.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Billion dollar babies cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Unspecified source for Image:Two_Worlds.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Two_Worlds.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:08, 24 May 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rockfang (talk) 21:08, 24 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Richard Nixon GAN?

edit

Hi Sdornan, I see that you have nominated Richard Nixon for GA status. It troubles me that I, someone who keeps this article on his watchlist, do not think that the article is GA-worthy and that you have not edited the article heavily in the past to ensure its passing. The bottom line: it needs more work and I suggest withdrawl of the GAN until the article is brought up to par. Kindly, Happyme22 (talk) 05:19, 29 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Are you trying to improve it or make it worse???

edit

Why do you challenge NPOV? Yyou must ask yourself, are you really trying to improve this article, or do you see it as your duty to make Nixon look bad. It seems to me that we have a dispute, and per policy I wish to have a third party administrator come in and settle the problem. I don't see why you two must use your own bias to make Nixon look worse. It may have been controversial to you, but not to everyone, and certainly not to me. The best way to present that information is to only present the basic facts. It being controversial is not a fact, it is a bias. Another aside, Nixon was not tried and convicted, but you present the facts like it was ineveitable. Please be more careful and lets not have an edit war since I am hoping that your intention is to improve the article and not to disrupt it.--Jojhutton (talk) 23:06, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I also see that you have attempted to get this article to WP:GA. I also see that it failed. I am trying to do the same as well. Please, lets work together and understand that this article needs major NPOV work.--Jojhutton (talk) 23:09, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

Revision to Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri articles

edit

I noticed that you have revised either Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri or Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire.

I intend to revise those articles following the Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Article guidelines. There are more details on the discussion pages of those articles. I'd be interested in any comments you have. It would be best if your comments were on the discussion pages of the two articles.

Thank you.

You are now a Reviewer

edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:32, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Sumday.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Sumday.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
  • If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.
  • To opt out of these bot messages, add {{bots|deny=DASHBot}} to your talk page.
  • If you believe the bot has made an error, please turn it off here and leave a message on my owner's talk page.

Non-free rationale for File:Sumday.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Sumday.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Article Feedback Tool update

edit

Hey Sdornan. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:39, 1 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

edit

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
