We changed the copyright/license for the image caption. We also removed the "warning" on the image's internal page. Just to clarify, were we supposed to remove these "flags," or is that left for an administrator after the 14-day period? Please let us know, and thank you again for your assistance in this manner.

What copyright tag should I use??

Hi, I have uploaded the photo Image:Bangkok_microzonation_map.jpg in Seismic microzonation page. The picture is my own creation and I want to release it in public with only two conditions (1) Anyone can use it freely for academic and business use but proper reference should be given to my paper published in http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/106564765/abstract (2) The picture should not be distorted beyond its original purpose meaning it should not be distorted to give any wrong meaning

Ince and Elton railway station Images- speedy del

Do not delete the station sign, as this is a source. Services no longer operate to these destinations displayed, but are still displayed on the platform. The point is that the station remains the same as it was many years ago, and is an important addition to the page, considering that Ellesmere Port to Warrington Line also mentions this fact regarding station signage. There is no other way of providing proof that the station signs actually say that. I would advise you to read the article before attaching any tags. In terms of the level crossing picture, "it compliments the article by providing a visual reference". Particularly as very few stations actually have these, it would be stupid to remove it. Copyright tag

Yeah, the copyright tag I think I would use is

but I'm not sure how i'm supposed to link this to my images. Do I need to log in. I just want my images to be available on Wikipedia with no strings attached whatsoever.

Deleting the Image of Brian Alters

Image Copyright problem

The image Image:Brian Alters.jpg is owned by Brian Alters and he gives his permission freely to use it. I believe I made that clear when I uploaded the picture. However, it apparently did not have the proper tags from the copyright tag page, and you had it deleted. These tags are greek to me except for {{GFDL-self}} which, in my case is not appropriate, since I do not own the picture.

I have now uploaded the image again as Image:Brian_Alters_2.jpg. It would be nice if you could give me explicit instructions on how to prevent the image from being deleted. I do not want it to happen again! pionade (talk) 14:15 PST, 3 July 2008

inform the correct person about deletions

Be careful with deletion notions (like this and evidently also those you have left on the pages of several of the prev. users that have commented on your page). You should inform the person who uploaded/made the photo, not some random person who commented on it. Take this photo, which resulted in you leaving the previously linked deletion template on my page. As it clearly states in the box below the photo, the author of that photo is the user InaKoys. Notice that informing the uploaded/author generally is a requirement, i.e. if you fail to inform the correct person, you risk having the deletion request fail by default. Just for the record, that's incorrect and based on a misunderstanding. Btline didn't create the page - it's simply because of the "hole" in history that occurs when moving things between various wiki's. Regardless, you should always inform the person who uploaded/authored it, not some random person who commented on it. In this case [3] for example, the person who should have been informed is Loganberry (or alternatively his account on commons). Rabo3 (talk) 19:50, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

As noted in my previous comments, you should inform the correct person, which, as noted in my previous comments here on your talk page, is InaKoys. The original author is either stated in the box below the photo (as in this case) or in the file history section (near the bottom of the page). Infrequently, where both these are missing, you're left with the last visible editor. I have explained in previous posts why the "hole" occurs in history. Note also that when something is moved by the automated or semi-automated process to Commons, the original file on e.g. English wiki is deleted automatically. What you then see on English wiki is not the original file. Rather, it is a hotlink from Commons. Notice also the quote below such files: here; This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons. The description on its description page there is shown below. If you click proporties over the photo it'll also confirm that it simply is a hotlink to the photo on Commons (i.e. not actually hosted on English wiki). For this reason, your current request for deletion of the above mentioned file won't work, as it isn't an independent file on English wiki. When you use a photo from Commons on e.g. English wiki, it will always automatically make such a hotlink page. To delete this page, you'd have to delete the photo from Commons, as that's where it really is. It is the same in all photos with a box below the photo stating: This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons. The description on its description page there is shown below. Try for example clicking on the various photos in the wiki article Bird (same in other versions of wiki; check e.g. the photos in the Portuguese article for bird). You'll notice that most originate from Commons and have the above mentioned quote below the photo (i.e. the first page you get to when clicking on the photos may give the impression that they're hosted on English [or Portuguese] wiki, but they're simply hotlinks from Commons). CSD I2 tags

To explain it better to anyone who want to communicate with about this subject, I'm using WP:TW and the script says that CSD I2 is for an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image, like the {{Db-noimage-notice}}:

A tag has been placed on Image:Discrete probability distrib.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Discrete probability distrib.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

So, please change it if isn't right, I mean the notice, the script or the information, to everyone base on correct information.

You had been tagging images which fit the "available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name" description. I believe the User:Hollyrandall78 is indeed the photographer, Holly Randall, and is uploading her own images. She is new to wikipedia so when you tag her images for deletion, could you also write her a personal note what is missing (like a license) or what she did wrong? You are going to delete this image because it is "available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name" yet you will notice the one in en.wp is newer than the one in commons has several misspellings fixed. I have worked on a fair use rationale and I believe that the use of the picture in the article for which it was intended (Raymond Wintz) would add a great deal to the article. I've noticed several instances where you have made some questionable calls in regards to images uploaded on Wiki. One of which was mine, which has since been uploaded again. Notice is what you give people when you're going to do something with their property, intellectually or otherwise. Just like a foreclosure, you should give plenty of notice. Seems like you would benefit more from actually working with people instead of trying to get kudos for monitoring copyrights. Especially when you don't seem to know what you're talking about.

Lewis Library (re: speedy deletion)

Uh, yes, hello. You tagged one of the images I recently uploaded for speedy deletion, since it has an identical copy in the Wikimedia Commons. What happened was that I had uploaded the original image, but later realized I hadn't put a license tag on it. Without really intending to (I'm new at this, obviously), I created a duplicate, somehow. One version now has the license tag it needs, and I'm not sure what to do about the other one. Your recent Twinkle action

Wikipedia offers many user talk templates to warn users about possible violations of vandalism ({{uw-vandalism3}}), the three-revert rule ({{uw-3rr}}), and other policies and guidelines. You should use these templates carefully.

These templates serve to explain the respective rule to new editors. When novice editors break rules, it is quite possible that they are unaware of it, and educating them is helpful. On the other hand, most editors that have been around for a while are familiar with these rules. If they break (or are about to break) one, it is frequently the result of some dispute, or temporarily heated tempers. In such situations, sticking to "did you know we had a rule against this" mentality tends to be counterproductive in resolving the issue, as it can be misconstrued as being patronising and uncivil.

A personal message tends to work better in these situations. If you have a question, why not ask the experienced user your question? You may begin a dialogue that will prove much more effective than a template.

Note, however, that templating at all — to regulars or newcomers — may be taken as rude by being impersonal (biting the newbies). No one likes to feel they are being bureaucratically processed. Writing what the template says in your own words, with reference to the particular situation, is more likely to communicate well if the editor is amenable to reason. Failing that, you can append a personal message immediately after the template.

Having said this, those who receive a template message should not assume bad faith regarding the user of said template. They may not be aware how familiar the user is with policy, or may not consider it rude themselves. They may also simply be trying to save time by avoiding writing out a lengthy message that basically says the same thing as the template, which is, after all, the purpose of a template.

All this text because of this. Personally, I think that WP:DTTR policy is a discrimination to all other users, thinking that an administrator is an user (like others) with sysop operations. And, when I see an image that missing something, I have to notice the uploader of that, according the rules for all users, even the user is administrator or not. The image description don't say if is an administrator or not, to do that I have to go to the user's page to see if is an administrator or not to know what kind of notice if have to send... I guess I could upload them all to flikr under a pseudonym and then someone could take them from there, since this seems to be allowed. Or I could create a sockpuppet on Wikipedia and claim that I took the pictures myself. But isn't that ridiculous? How is author: SomeStupidWikipediaPseudonym any better than author: anonymous? Show me the policy I have to follow.

• Your sentence doesn't parse, grammatically, and there is no such thing as "a discrimination", nor is a "regular" the same thing as an "administrator".
• It's preferably to refer to other editors as "editors", not as "users".
• WP:DTTR isn't policy, it's an essay. Essays are advice.
• Treating editors who have different levels of experience differently isn't "discrimination", it's simply a smart thing to do. See, for example, "teaching your grandmother to suck eggs". -- John Broughton (♫♫) 15:44, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

See Noun#Countable and uncountable nouns for further information. Using the phrase I was blocked on Wikipedia to using this image on their actor's biographical article. The same is this image. But if this image pass, then the other I uploaded too, so there wasn't any reason to block me. as the basis of a content decision is almost always, if not always, the wrong basis to make such a decision. PD-textlogo

Regarding your recent spate of edits such as this, this is an inappropriate use of PD-textlogo. This licensing is only valid for when the logo is made of a simple typeface: Image:Los Angeles Times.svg is a good example. Any text logo that requires some sort of creative choice such as Image:888 logo.gif will be protected by copyright (someone had to decide that the 8s should have the illusion of perspective). September 2008 ???

Dear Sdrtirs,

You put this note in my talk page today. I am not sure why or about what.

I am working on the Polish heraldic clan Sas coat-of-arms and some of their variations as Biliński coat of arms and Garczyński coat of arms, may be I will do the same with Sas II coat of arms today... if I get time, (I am working in the w:pl: Sas (herb szlachecki) and else). All this works are still going on, so they will remain as stubs some time.

I may do a lot of mistakes but I never vandalise. Please tell me what is the problem in order to revert whatever I did wrong.

By the way, I noticed that it is an issue in w:pt about the categories concerning Polónia or Polônia. May you tell me what is the proper word in Portuguese? I would like to help.

Several established users have repeatedly corresponded with the author of this image, and we have confirmed that he is fine with them being released under a free license. That's where we are. You can throw your weight around all you like, but you will not remove correctly freely licensed images from this project under my watch. Should you re-add the notice after ignoring the image notes and my explanation here, the tag will be re-removed, should you nevertheless go on and delete the image against policy, it will be undeleted.
