Regarding your question about the architecture of Iran, please explain a bit more. Im afraid I didnt quite understand what youre asking about.--Zereshk 23:14, 27 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm. You mean like a western style (e.g. colonial) that can be seen in Iran today?--Zereshk 23:19, 27 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
The colonial thing was my question to you. No one in Iran (save academics) even know what a colonial style is. The style of building is quite dependent on the geographical area. In the northern provinces, roofs are traditionally sloped. But in cities, and particularly in drier areas, roofs are flat, perhaps not unlike Albequerque. Nowadays, architecture is the least element considered in building and construction. Profit and mass production are in priority. That's why Tehran (and most other big cities in Iran) look like a bastardized Soviet city, despite its many individual gems. The urban fabric is oversaturated and isnt able to accomodate its population. That's why I tried to focus mainly on the traditional architecture of Iran, which has a rich history, style, and literature of its own. I dont know if this'll help any.--Zereshk 00:09, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
If residential stuff is what youre after, then see Kashan and Shiraz, Iran for some examples. See also the gallery of photos I took here. Kashan is particularly rich in traditional residential architecture.--Zereshk 00:31, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Re: 71.131.2.251

edit

No, I'm not an admin... I looked over the changes from 71.131.2.251 and, as I understand it, they aren't current enough to warrant a banning (which is usually only for 24 hours, and generally requires several reverts in the last few hours). Check out Wikipedia:Vandalism, which shows some of the guidelines. For what it's worth, the IP is on my (and I'm sure several others who use 3rd-party tools to monitor changes) blacklist and he'll get shut down pretty quick if he starts vandalizing again. - Dharmabum420 06:36, 12 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

2003 invasion of Iraq

edit

Hi there, when trying to go over the discussion at 2003 invasion of Iraq I saw it has become a big mess. If I see it correctly there was a conflict between an anon and others and now the page has been blocked. I think the anon had a point that an encyclopedia article about any military conflict should not be written exclusively by three members of one the conflicting parties, in this case Pookster11, Swatjester, and Dawgknot who according to this comment all belong to the US military. I therefore suggest to get more people into the boat, that should take the wind out of the sails of bias allegations. As I saw you also edited on that page, would you be willing to help out? CSA To Do list

edit

I see you nominated the To do list for an article for speedy deletion as nonsense. While I understand, by itself, a to do list doesn't make complete sense, do you not think that's a litle too harsh? I can't take the db off myself, obviously, but I was in the process of asking for help with the article as per WP:AID, and one of the requirements was a to do list on the article. Could this be a mistake perhaps, and not knowing this wasn't a main article? MartinRe 00:17, 19 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

No worries, I see you're removed it, thanks! Thanks for the note as well. :) MartinRe 00:22, 19 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

The "Arabian" Penninsula

edit

That is home to all the semitic tribes not just the Arabs so why should it be named after them. The Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Arameans, Chaldeans all orinigated from there. That is my implication that it is NOT Arab in origin.King Legit The Arabs call the Persian gulf the Arabian gulf. In my eyes it should the Sumerian Gulf.

Actually Sean, The name isn't out dated. The Shiite south actually thought of reinstating the name. One of the proposed names of the southern portion of Iraq if it's to cecede is the Islamic Republic of Sumer.King Legit
I honestly don't care if you don't believe me. This one of the plethora of rumors that I've heard about Iraq. I here news all the time through relatives. As far as credible sources, most of the times they're right albeit exaggerated a bit. I guarantee a full scale civil war very soon. You'll see. I predicted this before the US even invaded, it would have happened once Saddam was gone regaurdless, this has been brewing since the first British occupation of the country. Turmoil has to be forever entagled in the middle east, read about the history. Every great civilization that's tryed to conquer Babylon has received it's very same fate.King Legit

Wikipedia:Wikiethics

edit

Hi,

We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.

Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.

Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.

If you have concerns about the ethics and editorial standards in Wiki, please visit the page Wikipedia:Wikiethics with your suggestions on the policy. We have two subpages: Arguments and Sections. You might want to consider reviewing these pages as well...

Thanks in advance. Resid Gulerdem 22:12, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Speed Demon Community

edit

Thanks for the note. In answer to your inquiry, the SDC article is orphaned and appears to exist solely as a means of promoting an external link (which is does not appear to meet the tests of WP:EL) to an otherwise unnotable discussion forum. The article does not appear to really impart any significant information, and the only way someone would run across it is if they were specifically looking for it. Not being a pianist myself, it is certainly possible that this article could be worked into something useful, but I think it's a stretch. Twisted86 03:12, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

edit
Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

edit
The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.
Signed...

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

A short Esperanzial update

edit

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Please offer your opinion, vote, or whatever about your choice for the image to be used with the Islamic Barnstar Award at the Barnstar proposals page. Personal attack

As I'm sure you're aware, since you're supposedly part of the anti-vandalism force here on WP, the paragraph you restored to The College Preparatory School constitutes a personal attack. Not only that, but you edited it several times, showing that you were aware of the content. I would like an explanation as to why you restored the paragraph, and an apology for doing so. You may leave a message on this page, which I will be watching. Mrs. Hamilton ("fascist bitch") at 68.122.14.4 04:24, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Okay I was NOT the first username, and that's not my sockpuppet. Futhermore, I did not edit, rather someone using this screename on my computer did so. And I deleted it after I noticed it was there (check the edit log) so i'm absolved from this matter. --SeanMcG 01:13, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just a question, why was someone who was absolutely not culpable whatsoever for this ad hominum interogated today at CPS? --SeanMcG 19:35, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
A personal attack on a member of faculty by a student is a very serious offense. I support interrogation of any students at CPS who may be remotely suspected or involved. Mipchunk 00:32, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
First off, you're not involved. Second off, interrogation of ANY student? That's absurd. The blame should be placed off this one individual and ON to whoever therlaender is, and this can easily be found out by an ISP check. I'm sure any computer administrator at CPS can figure out how to. --69.105.225.201 02:37, 25 October 2006 (UTC)--> This was SeanMcGReply
I may not be directly involved, but I too watch the CPS WP article and am a CPS student, so it is in my interest that I see this issue through. I didn't say that the blame should be placed on whoever this individual is. An interrogation implies asking students question in relation to the issue. Also, it's possible to do ISP checks on users? Hrm, I thought that only WP admins with checkuser could do that... But anyways, who was it who used your account to restore the vandalism? If you know, it would immediately place the blame off whichever individual that is being wrongfully accused. Mipchunk 02:54, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well the problem is there are two users involved: someone from my school who used my account, and Tharleander who is probably someone from CPS. And yes, an IP check would have to be done by an admin --SeanMcG 04:27, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, SeanMcG, and welcome to WikiProject
San Francisco Bay Area
!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to the Bay Area. Here are some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve Bay Area-related articles, so if people ask for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page. It is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, which you are welcome to participate.
  • Our system for improving lower-quality articles is Jumpaclass. If you'll be editing stub, start, or B-class articles, consider using Jumpaclass to track your progress.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign Bay Area topics.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Again, welcome! We hope you enjoy working on this project.
