editWelcome. |

I'm French = my English writing must be full of barbarisms, such as (non exhaustive list) :
- "since" instead of "because",
- French narrative present instead of English biographical past tense,
- rédacteur = editor ; rédaction = editorial staff
- responsibility
I'm a former French student = I use only a little hand of verbs :
- become,
- begin.

editThanks a lot for translating and adding an interwiki link to the article Donald Tsang. — Instantnood 08:09, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)
- My pleasure. Sebjarod 08:43, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Philately
editI guess en: doesn't have portals as are found on other WPs; philately, list of philatelic topics, and Category:Philately are about as close as one gets. A portal would be handy! BTW, I've observed your philatelic contributions in fr:, very nice. Stan 16:52, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Ceres stamps
editThanks for doing Ceres series (Portugal), I learned some new stuff from it! I fixed up the language a bit. It would be nice to scan in a design from continental Portugal, perhaps when I get back home (am on a trip right now). Stan 04:56, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
- I am wondering what person was a prototype for the Ceres image? Is there any information about that? --Michael Romanov (talk) 22:40, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Stamp designers and engravers
editHello. I have a question about semantics and the opportuny of creating a new subcategory into Cat:Philately : Category:Postage stamp drawer ?
- I think it is needed like on fr: and de: and can bring into light people that usually are forgotten ("were" in France where they are very mediatized by the French philatelic litterature since the 1990's).
- If agreed, what would be the correct formulation in english, please ?
Thank in advance and if you're agree, I start categorizing the sooner the better since I've got vacation. Have a good evening. Sebjarod 19:37, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, it would be good to have more about these people - en: seems to have Slania and not much else. There's not a good single word ("drawer" usually only meaning a component of a desk); one could have a pair of cats "Stamp designers" and "Stamp engravers" or a single "Stamp designers and engravers", if the job functions tend to overlap a lot (do they?). I think it's better to say "stamp designers" etc instead of "postage stamp designers" since a lot of the same people do revenue stamps, duck stamps, and so forth. Stan 20:39, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
- I'll use Category:Stamp designers (category are always plural on en.wiki if I well remember).
- Yes, some engravers actually create the design of some stamps they engrave. On fr.wiki I use a lone category to have in one cateogry all artists involved in stamp design, and other categories put them in their originate category (C:engravers or C:illustratrors, etc.).
- Thank for the answer and with some translation work, some French stamp designers will arrive soon. Good evening. Sebjarod 17:42, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- On de:, a user used his passion for Feroese stamps to add some artists ; on fr:, I simply open a stamp magazine to find enough to fill a stub et Dallay catalog to add a quite complete list of stamps.
- Are stamp designers known by philatelists in the anglo-saxon world (US, UK, etc.), except the great Slania ? Do english-written stamp catalogs give the designer's name ? Sebjarod 17:51, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- Designers seem not to be so well-known in the English-speaking world; Scott doesn't mention them, one has to go to specialized publications. The UK does have its "Machin" and "Wilding" series, but even having one designer for all of the US' Washington-Franklin stamps was not enough to call it the "Huston issue". Perhaps WP can give them a little more of their deserved visibility. Stan 13:10, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
-> Personal idea : can an article "Stamp designer" have a part consacred to the story of their visibility by the philatelists and by the public. Perhaps contacts with the Art du timbre gravé association can be useful. Sebjarod 13:23, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
DYK
editDid you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Cécile Guillame, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page. |
- Thank for choosing a DYK-fact from one of my translation. Encouraging. Sebjarod 10:22, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
Vocab building
editUseful addition to St-Michel - Notre-Dame (Paris RER). Some improvements for your thème anglais:
- précision > clarification
- décennie > decade
- Thank you for the barbarisms and sorry for the inconvenience. And I chose the most simple fact of the fr.page I can write in english... Sebjarod 18:20, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- It's no inconvenience. It's easier to correct a few Frenchisms than to write an article oneself à partir de zéro! Well done for making the effort. Rollo 18:48, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Redirs
editI'd think we'd like to keep this particular misspelling around as a redir, in case somebody types in the wrong name. (I think that's a en-specific practice.) Googling seems to show lots of people using "Guillaume" for the designer, so you're not alone! Stan 19:28, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Stamp copyrights
editActually, what I had in mind was a WP article on stamp copyrights that also covered fair use situations and the like, but what you suggest for commons is valuable too, since it can be more of a prescription, perhaps referring to the WP article for the reasons. Stan 22:37, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Need your support
editAs a member of the Project Philately I would like to make you aware of a discussion about the Category:Philatelists that some of us have recently come to a consensus about. The discussion is here, but essentially a decision was made to try and remove all the subcategories that grouped the philatelists into country categories even though there are only just over 20 pages referenced and some of the subcategories had a few as 1 listing. Besides which, I would never go looking for a philatelist based on a country of origin, even if I knew it, I would look at the category for his/her name. Anyway, this is up for discussion now at a CfD, categories for deletion, page and I would appreciate if you would weigh in on the matter having first looked at the original discussion. I am sure you will see the benefit and logic of getting rid of these redundant subcategories and vote a Support for this. By way of reference, one of these subcategories was up for deletion a short time ago and basically all the non-philately people won the day, overriding the philatelic viewpoint. I am sure you would not want that to happen again. Do not delay as CfDs get dealt with fairly quickly. TIA ww2censor 20:08, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Wings of Desire / Les Ailes du désir
editDear Sebjarod, would you agree to add the image Image:Smichov andel wings of desire.jpg to the article in French wiki you started? It pictures a building by French architect Jean Nouvel, with an angel from the film on its facade. Regards JanSuchy 22:35, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
List of Philatelists

Commons:Stamps/Public domain
editStamp catalogue publisher in Thailand must pay loyalty to Thailand Post to use the images. Thailand Post also issued some warning against using postage stamp images for commercial purposes in recent Thai philatelic magazine. However they have pulled two issues from post office due to copyright violation of other's work. The troubled stamps show the paintings of famous artist and it turned out they haven't properly got permission to use them. For other issues, its mostly designed by inhouse designers or came from stamp design competition organized by Thailand Post so it's safe to say they own the right of the remaining stamps. -- Lerdsuwa 14:33, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject France
editHello! We are a group of editors working to improve the quality of France related articles. You look like someone who might be interested in joining us in the France WikiProject and so I thought I'd drop you a line and invite you! We'd love to have you in our project :-) STTW (talk) 21:17, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Philately WikiProject
editYou are listed as a participant in the Philately WikiProject. Today I have created an inactive list consisting of those participants who have not made any philatelic edits for more than six months. I was going to use a 3 month cut off point but felt generous. You are not one of those editors, so I have not moved you and you remain as an active participant. If you are still active on Wikipedia but are inactive in philately please let us know by moving yourself to the inactive list. However, we really need more active participants for all philatelic articles. The Philately Portal has been running for some time and I am doing occasional updates, Postage stamps of Ireland is a candidate for featured article (that would be the first philatelic article), and several of the redlinks have been filled but we need more activity so if you are around please participate. Thanks for the work you have done in the past even if you have not done anything recently. Cheers ww2censor 01:06, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
My user page
editThanks for cleaning up my page. I put an admin request in, after posting a BV warning which he obviously did not like and he has been blocked indefinitely. Keep well. ww2censor 21:14, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Chalon head
editDid some wordsmithing on Chalon head but there are some phrases that I don't know what you mean. Maybe you can have another look and tell me if it sounds good, or as I think, still needs some attention. Cheers ww2censor 03:14, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think you discovered all my barbarisms. Thank you for your rereading patience (I admit mine is less large). Sebjarod 18:15, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Monaco postage stamp and abbreviations
editDear Sebjarod, could you kindly respond to the following 2 questions as a French and a philatelist: Are Pierre Gandon and (French: Gabriel Antoine Barlangue) authors of this Monaco stamp? And what do abbreviations DEL. and SC. (used after both their names on the stamp) mean? Similar abbreviations can be seen on many French stamps. Thank you for your great contribution to philately in Wikipedia. Regards, --Leonid Dzhepko 07:55, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Dallay Catalogue : drawn by Pierre Gandon (DEL. = latin for "he drew") and engraved by Gabriel-Antoine Barlangue (SC. = latin for "he engraved").
- I have a problem with this picture : since they both died less than 70 years ago... Sebjarod 15:53, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you a lot for your prompt response! You are very helpful. --Leonid Dzhepko 20:31, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Chalon head
editThis edit reverted my edit to Chalon head. Perhaps you are not familiar with the recommended categorisation methods. Normally if an article is in a sub-category of a parent category, it is not also in the parent category. Have a look at Wikipedia:Cat#Duplicate categorization rule and you will understand why I made my edit you reverted. There is already enough overcategorisation going on. ww2censor (talk) 04:20, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- Part One :
- Well aware of that rule.
- As written in edit: article not only about Canadian stamp.
- Conclusion: article not overcategorised.
- Stop. Sebjarod (talk) 17:27, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- Part Two :
- If I ever categorize every philatelic countries for that article,
- You will snivel on the Project talk page about categories being empty and quoting another rule...

Steve Dagora
editLooks like you might have made use of a reference to a stamp catalogue which may or may not have coverage relevant to the current AfD on Steve Dagora, a person most notable for his appearance on a 1932 Papua New Guinea stamp. I've probably noticed that connection too late to catch ya, but your comments on the AfD and perhaps available sourcing would be welcomed, I'm sure. Best, --joe deckertalk to me 17:13, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
