Philadelphia Parking Authority
editThank you for your good work on the Philadelphia Parking Authority article. I changed Linda Miller to not have a link to the representative in Iowa. Caution is needed when adding links to names, especially those with common surnames.
I have left a comment on Template talk:Infobox government agency about the "executive" rather than "Executive" entry. We will await comments or results from those who specialize in templates. Consider putting that page on your watchlist.
Are you in Philadelphia? There is far more material than currently included that is relevant to PPA. For example, Vincent Fenerty is a Republican ward leader, and Al Taubenberger is a Republican ward leader and an at-large candidate for city council, and formerly a candidate for Mayor. I added a redirect for Al, so the entry at PPA is a valid link.
I redid the article from a pointer to the TV show, but I have not had time to do more. Let me know how I can be of help, but I am very busy with other matters until November 9, 2011. --DThomsen8 (talk) 12:21, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the cookies! I do live in Philadelphia and I agree it would be very interesting to have an understanding of the people behind the PPA. I also think a proper guideline of the finances could be useful.. Do you have any advice on how to begin writing about people? --Segarch (talk) 12:41, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- Writing about people is not easy, especially living people whose notability may be challenged. Fenerty may not be notable by some criteria. Dead people, especially long dead people, are not quite so difficult, but even there I would suggest that you use your talk page to create a draft before moving to mainspace. See User talk:Dthomsen8/Draft articles/Schwarzmann for an example. Even there, the live article has drawn a discussion on Hermann vs. Herman. Hermann is right, but I am not pursuing that issue. See also User talk:Dthomsen8/Charles Janeway Stillé for a draft, a long way from an article, and I need a source at the HSP to have an independent source (obituary), but I am unlikely to get that anytime soon.
- On any subject, the most important element in creating a new article which will survive its first few weeks is to have good sources. The Central Library is a great resource, because they have clipping files in Social Studies, various newspapers online to be searched in Newspapers, and of course books in the catalog. I have also used the Library Company of Philadelphia and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania for good sources. See, for example, the sources for Abraham Markoe. --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:45, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
User page
editConsider starting your user page. Look at other user pages, and maybe copy an idea from them. For example, add a template for your location. I have two. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:48, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
Drafts
editComments on Vince Fenerty
editA reasonable start on an article on Vince or Vincent Fenerty. Whether the formal Vincent or the informal Vince, a redirect takes care of the alternative name. See Al Taubenberger as a redirect.
You need to add all the standard features of a living person biography. See Brian J. O'Neill or William K. Greenlee to see elements your article lacks. Certainly you can add ==References== and the PERSONDATA template. Consider an infobox template, too.
At least one of your references needs to be archived, and I will do that for you and leave the inline citation here, but not tonight. --DThomsen8 (talk) 00:39, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
This template must be substituted. -- Emperor of Oz's New Clothes (talk) 17:27, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
