Richard Keech

Hi. I noted your contributions to Richard Keech's page. It is right to include his background as an essential part of his story, however Wikipedia is not a fansite or blogsite. I updated the text to keep as much information in accordance with WP:BIO and WP:POV. I believe I have given the text extreme latitude given the lack of references or sourcing. You are, of course, free to update the article again, but please review WP:POV, WP:BIO, WP:NEUTRALITY and other sections before doing so. If there are any references or sources, i.e. on the Internet or in writing (newspapers, magazines, etc.), preferably containing the same information you provided, please add them at the bottom of Mr. Keech's article. Hi, Steven. I had to remove your contributions to the D'Ewart page as they comprise pure cruft. Please read the sections I recommended above to get a clearer idea of what kind of information is appropriate for Wikipedia. Your insights are valuable and interesting but you should seek out a different format, perhaps your own webpage, to make them public.

Unfortunately what you added to the D'Ewart article, while obviously of great importance to you, is not appropriate for an article here. By all means, set up a blog for yourself to discuss your dad, yoru uncle, your family. I am not a computer expert at all, but I briefly had a blog at gmail.com. It's not that hard to set up and I am sure you have friends and relatives who would help you. I did not know that Mr. D'Ewart was your uncle. You have been blessed to have so many people of note in your family. Sorry about the article. Don't take the term "cruft" personally-I use it refer to anything that seems frivolous. Hello, Steven.I already figured out that you were Richard's son, hence my condolences on your mother's passing.

It is understandable that you want to show off your dad's best qualities, and unfortunately many encyclopedia bios can be dry and dusty, although your father's bio is interesting. I think it is very good as it is and I would suggest you run by me anything else you plan to add, lest it be deleted for cause, i.e. for violating Wikipedia policy. There are a lot of guidelines and I hope you read some of them as I recommended to you previously.

If you have a telegram from 1945 with bearing on something you added to your father's article, put all the details on my talk page and I will see if I can incorporate it. The person it was from, title, date, and gist of message (if not verbatim) helps.

Most recent edits to Richard Keech page

Steven: Recently, an anonymous edit was made, adding further unsourced text to the Richard Keech article. The IP address was recorded as User:76.22.58.29. As you already have a username I do not know why you would do so unless you simply forgot to login, which is no big deal it has happened to almost all of us, including myself.

My concern is that the content of the latest edit is unsourced (i.e. WP:ORIGINAL RESEARCH), of which the article already has too much. I have already advised you that the article as it stands is fine, although a large chunk is unsourced text (i.e. backed by sourcing other than personal communications between yourself and Mr. Richard Keech). Such edits, especially when done anonymously, will most likely be continually reverted and probably subject the article to the scrutiny of others with less tolerance for latitude than I have given this article. In short, I have already explained to you as gently as I can that Wikipedia is not a personal webpage where anything can be added at the user's discretion and tried to encourage you to seek alternative venues where you can give the full story as you like and to your specifications. Editing

As the son of the subject of the Richard Keech article, you must be extra careful to avoid any violation of WP:BLP and WP:POV. Much of the article is already based on non-verifiable sourcing, i.e. personal conversations and recounting of facts. As far as removing text that could be perceived as "spiteful" from the article lede, the nature and genesis of the circumtances surrounding the killing are germane. Remarks about edits to Richard Keech page

Hello: You will have noticed I made several major edits to the Richard Keech page. Also, I have posted a "notability" template on it. My concern is that your dad, as an encyclopedia article topic, does not qualify for notability guidelines on Wikipedia. There are two difficulties in this regard. 1. As a military person, he does not qualify as notable under WP:MILPEOPLE. (No major decorations, no major role in combat operations, etc.) 2. As a convicted murder, he might qualify for notability under WP:CRIME. But then we've got to look at the perpetrator factors: motivation, victim, "historic significance...which persists beyond contemporaneous news coverage." If notability is established in that regard, then the biographical article gets combined with the "murder of.... " article. (And I don't think you'd like that.) Back to the notability template – these are indexed so that interested editors can look at the articles and perhaps improve them. Please notice that the template has links for various search tools which aid in improving articles. With this in mind, please don't let the notability template bother you too much. But be aware that editors might notice the template and nominate the article for deletion. Also, Steve, please notice that the Find a Grave page for Richard has been modified. You, yourself, might make additions to the page by becoming a Find a Grave member. You could then add a photo of Richard. Also, you could request transfer of the memorials to yourself. In so doing you could then add biographical material to the pages. Frankly, Steve, that is the better way and place to memorialize your father and mother on the internet. Wikipedia is not a memorial website, and so I think sooner or later the article will be deleted. You're welcome. Please feel free to comment on the AfD. Simply say "Delete. Not an event notable enough for Wikipedia encyclopedia coverage." In other words, de-personalize. Your parents have received and can receive memorialization on other websites, such as Find-a-Grave. You can be the "manager" of the memorials by signing up with F-A-G and requesting transfers. – S.
