Ministry of Education of Singapore

edit

[1]

Then the list should be linked from the article. However, the list may grow too big, so maybe a separate List of government-operated schools in Singapore can be made. WhisperToMe 03:52, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually this link is already in the box for Education in Singapore at the bottom of the article, but I am ok with your edit. Thanks. —Sengkang 04:24, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikimania 2007 bid

edit

Hello, if you are not aware of the Wikimania's bid next year, you may like to take a look. I need some volunteers and it will be great if you like to help out. It's alright if you can't, though shortlisting only starts on 15 September, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It will be nice to meet you though. --Terence Ong (T | C) 11:37, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Will need to find out more about this first (do not know much what Wikimania is about!) =) —Sengkang 16:13, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Read more about Wikimania at its article. Looks like a big event! Just to find out, what does helping out entail? May not be able to help out much as I am entangled in my full employment. —Sengkang 13:54, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
May I request for images? I post it here since the notice board's images page is dead. Can you take pictures of the Hungry Ghost Festival (burning of papers, worshipping them, Getais etc.), we need more pictures of such festivals. Keep up the good collection though. :) It will be nice to have more pictures of Fernvale and Rivervale. Local and foreign community pictures are needed and worshipping and stuff, this is needed in articles such as the demographics and religous articles. Sorry if the demands are a little too high. --Terence Ong (T | C) 11:46, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ah...today is the last day of the 7th month...I am afraid it is too late. Will find the time to take photos of Rivervale and Fernvale though I am ironically too lazy to walk about my neighbourhood...lol. As for the demographics and religious articles, I will see what I can help. —Sengkang 16:13, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I thought the seventh month this year lasts until September. ;) --Terence Ong (T | C) 05:44, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, there are two 7th months this lunar year, the second one is the so-called "leap 7th month". However, traditionally, the festivities are only carried out in the first 7th month and not extended to the second one. So, "officially", the 7th month was over yesterday at the stroke of midnight (or 11 p.m. as some would say). —Sengkang 05:56, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for explaining to me, now I understand how the seventh month works. --Terence Ong (T | C) 09:53, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

IP blocking

edit

I frequently use the IP address 166.121.37.10 to access Wikipedia and do unofficial policing, attempting to detect and reverse vandalised articles. However, I am often thwarted from doing so as the above IP address is always banned. I hope admins can look into this. Thanks! —Sengkang 01:05, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Samir, it seems that I am on a dynamic IP address (166.121.x.x) as I am now in turn blocked on 166.121.36.8! Anyway, thanks for your help. I guess I have to live with it. —Sengkang 03:17, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Fixed that one, I hope. Rich Farmbrough 11:50 25 August 2006 (GMT).
Thanks for all your help. I have been blocked again on User:166.121.37.9 for the past 2 days. —Sengkang 03:45, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
That is claimed to be a Open Proxy, i.e. a computer anyone can use. I've requested that it be rechecked by the people who do that sort of thing. Sorry I can't be of more help. JesseW, the juggling janitor 04:14, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Image:Napier Road 2, Singapore, Jul 06.JPG

edit

That's Holland Road, not Napier Road. Napier Road only starts after Botanic Gardens. Just to let you know. --Terence Ong (T | C) 03:26, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Looks like the on-line street directores are wrong. I have just verified with the official street directory issued by Singapore Land Authority that you are indeed correct. —Sengkang 03:33, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Which edition? I thought they don't produce directories anymore, Mighty Minds does it now. --Terence Ong (T | C) 07:22, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
The 21st edition, 2002/03, the last one. Mighty Minds is too garish and childish-looking to me. Some of the information is also not accurate, and I don't think it's sanctioned by SLA. —Sengkang 09:07, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Lol. SLA don't produce anymore road directories, now its all the private corporations who publish the directories. There's AAS if you don't like Mighty Minds. I have bought almost every edition of Mighty Minds directories. To be honest, the very first one was lousy. --Terence Ong (T | C) 14:54, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I see, maybe I am particular where accuracy of information is concerned. What does AAS stand for? —Sengkang 01:16, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Automobile Association of Singapore. Mighty Minds is accurate nowadays, but just don't trust their places of NTUCs or Cheers stores. Their information is always verified somewhere around October the previous year. --Terence Ong (T | C) 10:51, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I see. Maybe I am just being nostalgic, with unflinching loyalty to the "real" street directory when I received my first edition in the 1980s! LoL —Sengkang 06:08, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ummm, are you going for the Biennale? Do take pictures, if you do go. ;) But the sad thing is you cannot take pictures at places like National Museum and Art Museum, it was good though. --Terence Ong (T | C) 15:01, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Most probably, as this event would last until November. Maybe more of the static displays. Have you taken any? —Sengkang 01:16, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Finished all the paid attractions. Taken tons of pictures, but I need a lot of time to sort and upload it, very lazy in such things. And Friday evenings (1800 - 2100) are free, except National Museum which closes at 6pm sharp. Would you mind if I email you, or can you sign in on MSN? --Terence Ong (T | C) 10:51, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I envy you with lotsa time to visit all the paid attractions! I am ok with you emailing me but I may not be familiar with the masterpieces which you have taken (being not personally there), and hence may not be of much help in sorting them out. —Sengkang 06:10, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
A staff told me you can get a book about the biennale for ten bucks, which features all the masterpieces and the events. Its fine though. I realised I have about 10,000 pics to sort, though quite a lump sum are rejects. --Terence Ong (T | C) 07:07, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
10,000???!!! That's shocking. How did you manage to take that many photos? LoL —Sengkang 07:18, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I take around 200 - 450 pics usually, though sometimes it can be less than 200 (around 100+ or even less than that), I occasionally go crazy and take 600 pics a day. Yesterday, I went lunatic, took 900 pics. What's your SD card memory? --Terence Ong (T | C) 08:14, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Wow, you are indeed a photography fanatic! The most I have ever taken in a single day is about 200+ pics. My SD memory is only 1GB. Just a word of caution, be careful of where you aim your camera as photography is forbidden at certain locations, e.g. near strategic installations. —Sengkang 08:31, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I have several 1GB, 512MB, 256MB cards, but I don't use them since I got my 2GB card, unless my card is misplaced or in use. What do you mean by "near strategic installations"? Thanks for the reminder. --Terence Ong (T | C) 09:08, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I would say protected government buildings and foreign embassies. —Sengkang 09:28, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ahh, no wonder I see no pics from you of MFA Building for example or any embassies. --Terence Ong (T | C) 09:30, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the Barnstar, really appreciate that. I'm currently quite obsessed with semi-/fully-automatic wikipedia tools, which I'm finding very useful for maintenance. I hope you find the page Wikipedia:SGpedians' notice board/Maintenance helpful. If you have any repetitive task in mind, or want some analysis on Sg-articles, please send me a note. Thanks again. ;D --Vsion 02:58, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Go Vandal-whacker

edit

Hi. I was just looking through your log of contributions and saw that you have made quite a few vandalism reverts. Vandalism-reversion is good work, but it should be accompanied with appropriate warnings to the vandals/users. So, please warn vandals with a test template after they have vandalised. Thank you. --Nearly Headless Nick 08:36, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, would you have some test templates for me to refer to? Thanks. —Sengkang 08:48, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Festival pics

edit

Can youtake pics of the Chinese Garden Lantern Festival, Chinatown mooncake festival light up, Kampong Glam and Geylang Serai Hari Raya light up and the Little India Deepavali light up, provided you have the time? If you do spot a Ramly burger stall at the pasar malam, do snap a shot. --Terence Ong (T | C) 09:15, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sure, will give it a shot, though I am not good at night photo-taking. You taken any? —Sengkang 09:17, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Not yet though, though I hope I can take. You should get a tripod then. --Terence Ong (T | C) 09:31, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Exam time for you? Yup, considering to get one, though I will not be as mobile then. —Sengkang 09:36, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Kind of, starting to prepare, not much time left. I once thought of getting a DSLR, but I'm not "pro" enough yet to use a DSLR. You do work in the civil service right i.e. MOE? --Terence Ong (T | C) 09:45, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Good luck to your exams! Yup, thought of getting one DSLR too but after much consideration, I prefer a friendly point-and-shoot camera which is more convenient for me to lunge around. Well...not convenient for me to reveal my occupation here. =) —Sengkang 09:49, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Done for Chinatown. —Sengkang 16:02, 1 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nice. :) I hope I can visit Chinatown soon, maybe on the day itself. I passed by there, but didn't get the chance to take any. :( --Terence Ong (T | C) 13:16, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks...heard the Little India lights are better. Only caught them in the daytime, hope to go there at night soon. —Sengkang 13:22, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
ST rated the Deepavali ones the best ;) Think will drop by again, though I have some daytime ones (taken from the car). I heard the Kampong Glam/Geylang Serai lights are average, but I hope they sell Ramly burgers. :P - Terence Ong (T | C) 13:25, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yup, caught them in the daytime. Wasn't impressed until I saw the photos in ST. I was like...Wow! You have a sudden craving for Ramlies? Lol —Sengkang 13:30, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I never tried them before, yearning to taste Ramlies. Lol... Do take more cuisine pics. Now the haze is getting worse, you may like to take a picture or two of hazy Singapore. --Terence Ong (T | C) 14:13, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh great! Nice ones for all though, was in Chinatown on Friday night snapping pics. I wonder if I have any opportunity to go to Little India or Kampong Glam to snap pics. But that will be after the festive seasons (my exams are during this period of time, unfortunately). Did you buy a ticket to enter City Hall? --Terence Ong (T | C) 05:45, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I didn't know I have to purchase a ticket to go in there until I encountered "bouncers" at the entrance....and nope, I did not go in eventually. —Sengkang 02:50, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Make a visit on a Friday night (6 to 9 pm), it is free. So as for Tanglin Camp and Singapore Art Museum. National Museum closes at six daily, so no way it is free. :( There are other attractions to go to that is free, see this page. --Terence Ong (T | C) 05:09, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for reverting 193.216.130.187's various vandal edits; I've left a couple warnings on his talk page, and I'll be keeping a close eye on him as well. Sellapan Ramanathan

Hi, I still insist that Sellapan Ramanathan was not elected. An Election involves a group of individuals casting votes. This has not happened in this case. This may be a legal process in Singapore but it's not a democratic election by any definition. --AmH2 16:17, 10 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

RE:Singapore shopping malls

edit

Goodness, he is also prodding Taka's main article which is a listed company in Japan. Ngee Ann City is so huge and very well known and he wants to prod it. Suntec was the largest mall before VivoCity and it also has to go, Centrepoint is notable for Robinsons and also has to go. Sim Lim is a tourist attraction and also has to go. Shaw House that has a Lido also has to go. Marina Square one of the largest malls, also has to go. Tampines Mall one of the biggest malls in the east, also has to say goodbye. This is madness. --Terence Ong (T | C) 15:49, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

If we have articles such as Peck Seah Street and McCallum Street, then I believe a longer road like Cantonment Road which you made it as a redirect should also become an article. --Terence Ong (T | C) 14:00, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry to trouble you, forgot they have a bigger and better pasar malam at Geylang Serai and also a light up there? Planning to make any visits before or after Hari Raya? I need more pictures for areas like Ang Mo Kio, Yishun, Pulau Ubin, Kusu Island, Pulau Hantu, St. John's and Sisters Islands, dunno whether Sehajat and Bukom still accessible to public. Need more aerial views of Singapore city area and outlying islands. Need some cuisine pics badly, not only local but Malaysian or Chinese food. I know this is a very high demand, but take your time to do it. --Terence Ong (T | C) 10:05, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Nope, not planning to go Geylang Serai. —Sengkang 10:11, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
How about the other requests? It's fine if you are not willing to do it. I will find time to do it as well, to ease the burden for you. Category:Outram

edit

Imo, I rather we categorise them under Category:Chinatown, Singapore, its much better as we are being more precised as well as for Tanjong Pagar, categorise them under Category:Tanjong Pagar. Since you created them already, then we shall stick to Outram but have also another category. I really need sources for Centrepoint's renovation and if you really keep archives back in the 1980s and 1990s, well its fine if you don't have it though. --Terence Ong (T | C) 14:08, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've categorised it under the Outram Planning Area, which I am systematically doing for all locations in Singapore, which is to cat places under their respective urban planning areas. Of course, you could create the above categories too. —Sengkang 15:31, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry to gahjiao you, can come on MSN? It's alright if you have other things to do. --Terence Ong (T | C) 13:21, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's very redundant to have Category:Orchard since we have Category:Orchard Road. Don't you agree? --Terence Ong (T | C) 12:01, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orchard Road does not only mean places located on the road itself, it refers to the entire Orchard, Scotts shopping belt. That's my opinion, of course. --Terence Ong (T | C) 12:08, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
In creating Category:Orchard, I am actually following the nomenclature of the urban planning areas, which in this case refers to the Orchard Planning Area. The naming convention being adhered here is to remove the "Planning Area", and thereby leaving only the word "Orchard" and therefore Category:Orchard for the category for Orchard Planning Area. In the case of Category:Orchard Road, it would be somewhat similar to Category:Chinatown, Singapore which you have created. Thus, Orchard Road would become a sub-set of the Orchard Planning Area (although the road itself extends into the Museum Planning Area near Dhoby Ghaut). Hope this clarifies. (I expected to hear from you. Lol) —Sengkang 13:18, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, your style of naming is good and I support that. The thing is I believe the Orchard Road category is not only places located on the road itself but including the places that is which is commonly listed under the Orchard shopping belt. The special categories (like Chinatown and Orchard Road) are more for like "touristy" purposes. You don't expect someone to say Plaza Singapura is in Museum, sounds too vague or Shangri-La in Tanglin cos most people don't know where on earth is Tanglin. We shall see for the rest, I plan to start writing road articles of major roads, Little India, Kampong Glam and notable roads. --Terence Ong (T | C) 13:39, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Now that I know your intentions, we will leave it as that. I will not gah-jiao your Category:Orchard Road. I like a good discussion! Thanks. —Sengkang 13:43, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Lol...Maybe we can help the new Wikipedia project when it runs. Shall we collaborate on writing articles of Singaporean places? --Terence Ong (T | C) 14:17, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Haha...I have a phobia of projects. You can propose some ideas. But I can only contribute now and then, and I always contribute in spurts you know. Lol —Sengkang 15:27, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Argon popup reverts

edit

Take a look at the history of the argon article. According to the edit summaries, your reversions were to the correct revisions, but checking the diffs [2][3] they both times somehow missed the last edit. A bad case of server lag? A bug in the popups? Technically this shouldn't be possible to happen at all, any idea what caused it? Femto 15:37, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hmm...thanks for pointing this out. This should be a flaw in the popups? Do you know to whom shall we provide feedback to? —Sengkang 02:31, 4 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've posted at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Incomplete reversions. Femto 14:38, 4 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

It would be nice if you could add pronounciations for the chinese characters in the article. Circeus 19:00, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sure, could add the Pinyin, a pronunciation scheme for Chinese characters. —Sengkang 02:37, 4 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
That'd be perfect. Circeus 13:19, 4 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Reversion of Puma

edit

Hi – I undid your reversion of Puma. The changes look like a good faith effort from one of our newest editors. The changes certainly need some cleanup and perhaps the editor needs some gentle suggestions about how to better add material or an explanation why the material is not appropriate. JonHarder 01:21, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok. —Sengkang 01:51, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh you got sponsored ah? Lucky you. Feeding lories and buying drinks were the most expensive stuff. Also, having a disappointing cup on Ben & Jerry's at the kiosk, made me buy another one right at the end in the cafe itself... --Terence Ong (C | R) 16:30, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, sort of. I try to avoid the F&B outlets there as the prices are obviously marked up. Gotta koon, ciaoz. —Sengkang 16:31, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I only like Bongo Burgers, even water there costs $3. You have any more pics of BirdPark? I think I'm going to visit Ah Meng tomorrow depending on weather conditions. --Terence Ong (C | R) 04:09, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Have more taken last year, but no time to sort (since). Also, took a few birds but they will reside in another section. —Sengkang 04:23, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hope to see it soon, I am a fan of your pics. Lol. BTW, there's this assesment thingy as you know. Refer to notice board for details on how to go about assesing articles. --Terence Ong (C | R) 04:34, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh really? I am so honoured! Lol. The assessment thingy looks quite complicated to me, will go through it when I have the time. —Sengkang 06:08, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
