Dipterocarps

edit

Thanks for the fixes on the Dipt pages. The plan is to get all Dipts onto Wikipedia (and check the ones listed there – as there were/are a few synonyms) and link these to IUCN redlist pages. Some Dipts are currently not on the IUCN redlist - however, Ashton (2004) lists them as endangered/vulnerable – so is it okay to use this source? I could check with Peter to see why he didn’t include them on his IUCN assessment and get confirmation from him as to their status.

After that I then hope to try and sort out the Dipt biology/general information and have a range of photos (mainly Sabah Dipts) to upload.

I’m off to a conference (Association of Tropical Biology and Conservation – Asian Chapter) in Kuching, Sarawak in April 2008 and was wondering if you want to promote the WikiProject:Plants there – thru a poster presentation. In general the pages covering tropical plants/ecology are fairly bare (with the exception of the Durian page) and could do with the input of a few tropical biologist. No problem. I wanted to thank you for your contributions there. You're beginning to fill in an area we sorely need to. Fantastic stub creation. I just made sure there were stub notices and categories. Keep up the good work! On the poster presentation, perhaps that's something you could bring up at WT:PLANTS and see what other editors think. It might be a good idea, since a lot of academics view Wikipedia as unreliable. And sometimes it is, but that's all the more reason for more academics to get involved! Anyway, go ahead and propose the idea to the other members of WP:PLANTS and see what they think. If you ever need my help with anything, just ask :-) Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 02:43, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Science lovers wanted!

Hi! I'm serving as the wikipedian-in-residence at the Smithsonian Institution Archives until June! One of my goals as resident, is to work with Wikipedians and staff to improve content on Wikipedia about people who have collections held in the Archives - most of these are scientists who held roles within the Smithsonian and/or federal government. I thought you might like to participate since you are interested in the sciences! Sign up to participate here and dive into articles needing expansion and creation on our to-do list. Feel free to make a request for images or materials at the request page, and of course, if you share your successes at the outcomes page you will receive the SIA barnstar! Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to your participation! Sarah (talk) 01:34, 18 April 2012 (UTC)|}Reply

Elaeis summarizing Social and environmental impacts

edit

Hi Sepilok2007, I've made another try at the Social and environmental impacts summarized text for the Elaeis article. It includes some peer reviewed articles as references and I've also made the other changes you mentioned. Now that it's ready, I'm just letting you know so that you can review again. Thanks in advance. YellowOwl (talk) 13:46, 27 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi again, Sepilok2007, I'm still looking a review of the revised version of the request I posted a few weeks ago on the Elaeis talk page and also for a new request on the Palm kernel oil talk page. I would appreciate your input if you have time to spend on either or both of these. Please let me know if you have any questions. YellowOwl (talk) 21:39, 10 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Palm oil requests

edit

Hi Sepilok2007, having been busy on other projects for a while, I have recently returned to working on the topic of palm oil and thought to reach out to you again. Last week I left a request on the Social and environmental impact of palm oil page for two changes there, introducing new information and supporting references, and suggesting the replacement of out of date information. These requests are again on behalf of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council, so I will not make these additions myself. Please let me know if you have any questions and thanks in advance for your consideration of my request. YellowOwl (talk) 20:31, 7 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi again Sepilok2007, the above request has been resolved but I have posted a new revision here. This request addresses the Sustainability section of the same article. I have also left a message with Sminthopsis84, who has helped on previous revisions. I see that you haven't been active lately, but I would appreciate your review of this new text if you have a few minutes to give. Thanks. YellowOwl (talk) 19:43, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
