Leibniz
editWithout specific information it seems unconvincing to assume that Leibniz' father has noted where the Moon stood at Leibniz birth. At 6:15 it was not visible so he must have had a special interest. What clock did he use and how accurate was it? We don't know, but looking at the chart the educated guess would be that the sun has just set below the horizon and Aquarius was in the Ascendant. Most probably he had in mind a 'schematic clock' with sunrise at 6 in the morning and sunset at 6 in the evening.
Btw I already mentioned that in XVIIc people were much much more interested in the ascendant - this is the meaning of the word horoscope - "looking at the eastern horizon". The sun sign became popular in recent time when civil birth recorded just the date and this is what most people knew. Leibniz father recorded traditionally that his son is born 'in Aquarius' meaning that it was at the eastern horizon.
Of course this is how I see the things.91.92.179.172 (talk) 18:32, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- Why unconvincing? Here is for example what the stars said about daughter of Galileo (Livia), according to her father. Galileo begins as follows: "Livia's temperament: Mercury and the Moon in separated signs...: the very well placed Mercury in Virgo overcomes the weak Moon so that the emotional side is completely subjected to the rational." (J. L. Heilbron, Galileo, Oxford, 2010, p. 92) Sepiolo (talk) 19:14, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- Galileo was a professional astrologer, something that Leibniz father was not. We should check what was at the visible horizon in Leipzig in midsummer - more than 180 degrees of the zodiac are visible. Also we should remember that there was no obsessive timekeeping and the old roman system a "day=12 hours" was still used (in winter hours were shorter, of course). With these two details in mind the contradiction between 6:15 and 'in Aquarius' could be resolved. My opinion is that "Aquarius on the horizon", either the visble or the theoretical one, is the main point. 91.92.179.172 (talk) 20:34, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- I understand your point of view. It should however be borne in mind that in the first half of the XVIIc almost every educated man knew the basics of astrology and considered it to be important. Sepiolo (talk) 21:33, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- Did Leibniz' father know enough astrology to be interested by a "Moon in Aquarius"? In the absence of evidence I doubt it and I would maintain that he mentions the Ascendant.
- A short digression here: according to the current pop astrology for some 30 days people with a character of one general type are born - it is connected to their Sun sign. Earlier, it appears that every 2 hours people of a different type are born, 12 general types every day of the year. Instead of choosing, one could assume 'there is something' in both views. However the pop version proposes a simple striking fact or rule, viz. a sun sign for every 30 days, something that today everybody knows. But was there really something that everybody did know in the xvii c.?
- Anyway, a good astrologer, knowing enough about Leibniz, should be able to tell what is his Ascendant: Aquarius or Sagittarius (or Capricorn). And so there would be also an argument how to read (i.e. "rectify") the post sextam verspertinam and next the 1/4 uff 7. 91.92.179.172 (talk) 21:58, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- By the way: not "... verspertinam" but "post sextam vespertinam" which means "after six (o'clock) in the evening". Sepiolo (talk) 23:22, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

editHi! I do actually like Hume and that's a great quote that I was unfamiliar so thanks for that! But yeah, it probably is more trivia than anything. This doesn't mean we couldn't create a section dedicated to notable people who have played the game but in general I think such sections are more about trivia and take away from the encyclopedic quality of articles. In any case thanks for bringing it to my attention! SQGibbon (talk) 18:01, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Sources needed for Days of the Year pages
editYou're probably not aware but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details see the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide. The article about the person you added to June 21 did not have any source that I could add to this page to back up your addition so this change has been undone. If you restore it, please provide a direct reliable source. Thanks. Toddst1 (talk) 19:38, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
