Weather
editHi Ser - I've been reading about the awful situation out your way that was caused by the recent weather. Are things ok at your home/work, or are you still off the power grid? --Rosiestep (talk) 20:40, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Ooo do hope things are OK, I don't tend to think of the DC area as the most weather prone in the way Florida or Louisiana is!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:45, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Glad to hear things are ok for you. The news said that traffic was snarled beyond belief because of the traffic lights being out, and that emergency services were down; can't imagine what that would be like! Rosiestep (talk) 20:53, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Is it over yet? Everywhere seems to be having crappy weather. My parents such got back from Australia and said the weather was poor, and the whole month of June was poor here too! We don't often get storms though! Was it one of those nights where you fear the roof is going to blow off or a tree crash on you or something?♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:01, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Air conditioning in the office though of course? I hate it when its too hot. I remember getting into the car in Florida after a day out somewhere and burning my hand on the seat belts and often it had been parked in the shade!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:06, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
I've got lightning going on outside. :) ⇒TAP 21:33, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Baffled as to how Miley Cyrus earned $54 million between June 2010 and 2011!! She's annoying as hell but you've got to hand it to her!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:48, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Still, that's a heck of a lot of dough..♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:52, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Ah the Hannah Montana merchandise. That makes sense now. Isn't she an adult now though? Its still popular though, obviously.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:00, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Hehe, now you must have been bored!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:37, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
The weird thing is that she had a 50 year old smoker's voice from about the age of 14!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:03, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

What does one call "a scholar/expert of Hieroglyphs"?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:09, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
hieroglyphology hieroglyphologist or Hieroglyphist?♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:31, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Oxford dictionary has hieroglyphist and it has the highest number of google book hits so I've gone with that. Now finding entries to fill it is another thing entirely...♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:45, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Can you create zee categories for Roque Centurión Miranda?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:31, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
The content missing for Paraguay and Suriname in particular is quite scary.. Every new article turns up primarily red links. We only have articles on 3 Paraguayan actors and no coverage of plays or anything! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:09, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Not to mention as you said before that a lot of important even existing Paraguay articles are a shambles and a lot seem to consist of bad machine translated text with no wikification or sourcing. But a lot of Californian articles are a shambles too. I mean articles like Sunset Strip are entirely unsourced!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:18, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
The Dutch coverage of Suriname is as you'd expect, far better. I'd say that overall though German wiki seems the most "encyclopedic" and consistent and where you're likely to see a better quality of coverage on non anglo countries on traditional encyclopedic topics. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes on there but it seems they have a better overall focus on what we are supposed to be about and what is important. On here an awful lot of editors do next to nothing to contribute and just sit around debating issues which really don't matter and I'd say we are the most popular culture driven pedia. Most editors stay away from improving town articles. You're more likely to see a good article on a building in a town than on a town itself!

Niterói circus fire
editYou created this article. I don't know if you're aware of it, but the article makes mention of scapegoats and coverups now which to me on the surface violate WP:NPOV. The article has references that supposedly back up the claims, but they are in Portugeese, a language I don't understand. This is just to inform you so you can take a look at the article. I do recognize your account from sometimes edits to aviation accidents....William 13:47, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Renaming proposal
editHello, Ser Amantio di Nicolao, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia!
I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you worked on, The Glebe (Arlington, Virginia), for renaming because I don't think the current name describes the subject well. Please come join the discussion here.
Thanks again for contributing! Argos'Dad 19:08, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Quite a few sport shooter categories missing too. GB vs Cameroon women;s football match almost over, being held locally in Cardiff actually. Quite a few swimmers to create later, need a break and some fresh air right now though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:09, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Mauritian and Thai cyclists also missing cats. Monegasque and Armenian swimmers too and Uruguayan sport shooters and Olympic shooters of Kyrygzstan.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:29, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, did you create the cats? A lot from the sailing 49 ers and laser class I started earlier missing for some of the more "obscure countries" too♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:54, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I mean I'd rather the talk page were tagged and not red linked but my honest opinion is that most wikiprojects are a waste of time unless there is real collaboration.. Its useful as an organization point of missing articles and such but that's about it.. Thai and Nigerian canoeists cats BTW need creating.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:20, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

I did wonder if he was a bit albino or something, not too disimilar to Peter Schmeicel. He reminds me of a baddie from superman or something. From what I've seen he's a damn good interviewer though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:28, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

United Arab Airlines Flight 749
editI prematurely hit the save button. My bombay cat wanted to sit in my lap, and to please her, I meant to hit the preview button but instead hit save. Blame it on the cat! Thanks for the help on the article which I am still fixing it up but it no longer looks like South African Airways Flight 406 now. When doing a new crash article, I take an old one and cut and paste it into the new article box. Hi there. Are you sure that Timothy Rees (judoka) is an alumnus of the University of Victoria? Backstage at the Smithsonian Libraries is part of Wikipedia Loves Libraries 2012, the second annual continent-wide campaign to bring Wikipedia and libraries together with on-site events. Running this fall through October and November, libraries (and archives) will open their doors to help build a lasting relationship with their local Wikipedian community.
Organized by Wikimedia DC, this event will take place on October 12, 2012, and will include new editor training, a "backstage pass" tour of the National Museum of Natural History, and an edit-a-thon. Everyone is welcome to attend!

editWatching Siegfried on PBS. So lush! --Rosiestep (talk) 04:21, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
To be honest, it's not my favorite. A bit limited and boxed in. All that said, it was a lovely background to the evening, while I worked on a couple of articles and did laundry. Made me think of my grandmother, my piano teacher for 10 years, who put me through one opera after another, but alas I have no memory of playing this one. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:50, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Freymóður Jóhannsson
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Freymóður Jóhannsson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Redsky89 (talk) 04:47, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject template redirects
editHi, sorry to bother you I was just wondering if you'd know anything about how to create a redirect for a WP template. e.g. I keep on writing "WikiProject Musical instruments" - when the template for some reason has capital I. Most overrated celebrities
editWho makes the top 5 in your view? Kim Kardashian/the Kardashians, Justin Bieber, David Beckham, Kanye West, Paris Hilton or any of the Jersey Shore morons I think. The British top 5 would be David Beckham. Cheryl Cole, Katie Price, Tulisa Contostavlos and any of the vacuous shallow morons associated with the casts of TOWIE and Made in Chelsea (UK Jersey Shore) I think! Of course there are many but the Kardashians definitely win by a country mile on a graph which measures talent (or lack of it) against success.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:32, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
We both agree on that one then. The sorts of people glorified in TOWIE and Made in Chelsea just like Jersey Shore are the types you think life is about who has the best tan and hair or car. They try desperately hard, both the girls and lads in it to meet the stereotypical "pretty or handsome" but they come across as extremely shallow and not a lot going on upstairs. Worse still is the tabloids/British media who glorify them and think they meet some physical ideal for the general public to adhere to!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:30, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
See what I mean LOL.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:38, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
I've heard of a short dark haired lady named Snooky or something. Is she Jersey Shore? She looks pretty repulsive, pure trash!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:46, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
She makes Kim Kardashian look classy! Hehe. Starting a stub session shortly, you using the new page feed with all the details?♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:51, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
Difficult not to notice it. When I click "new pages" now it redirects me to a new page feed which gives every detail about the article and my history, even my bra size hehe. Its excruciatingly informative and unnecessary I think, but I suppose its good for new page patrollers finding the bad eggs.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:55, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
Clunky, yeah exactly what I thought. And if I'm creating 1000 stubs which I might over the next few weeks even more so!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:59, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Whoa categories
editNo wonder you're one of the most active wikipedians... you just made 9 edits to an article to add categories! I'm just jostling you, but you know HotCat will let you add more than one category at a time by using the + arrow and then the checkmark. It's not the most intuitive interface, and I forget how it works sometimes, but in the future you should add all those categories in one edit which of course makes my watch-list much cleaner :).Shadowjams (talk) 21:28, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

editHi Ser Amantio di Nicolao, I would like to call your attention to an article you have contributed to last year, i.e. Talk:Second Portuguese-Brazilian invasion of the Eastern Bank. Sub-categories of Category:People from London
editIf you must recategorise people, please only categorise them in categories foe which they are primarily known. Recategorising the police officer Alker Tripp only as an artist and then a sportsman and the lawyer and colonial administrator Edgar Bonham-Carter only as a sportsman is ridiculous. These were far from being their primary careers. Thank you. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:55, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- Also all the Category:chess players you categorized under "Writers from foo" are pretty bad too. Very few chess writers are really known as writers. Most chess players belong in "Sportspeople from foo" if it's really important to subcategorize them. Quale (talk) 02:58, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Talk:List of Carl Squared episodes
editAt the time you created Talk:List of Carl Squared episodes on 23 August 2010, the article page was a redirect.[5] After a few recent speedy delete rejections, Dogmaticeclectic listed Talk:List of Carl Squared episodes at MfD. Please consider commenting at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Talk:List of Carl Squared episodes. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 10:33, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
The last footnote I've added is beyond my expertise. It relates to Polish Wikipedia. Please take a look to tune it up. Thanks. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 00:10, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- I reformatted it. I think it is fixed and satisfactory. Just used a more conventional format without the template {{polish}}. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 02:06, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
Phallic stuff
editThanks Ser di Nicaolao. Mmm we need a Category:Phallic architecture, but it might be abused and placed on any American building. I've created Category:Phallic monuments for now anyway.. Noticed your work on Spanish uni cats, a lot to cover there!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:04, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
Reckon you can replicate the categories from French wikipedia for Louis Serre (politician)? I'll follow suite with some more entries then.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 15:56, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Proposal for category:Bible translation stubs
editHi, Ser Amantio. Thanks for caring about my first translator-related proposal. Now I have another one, which would mean two new stub categories: Category:Bible translation stubs and Category:Bible translator stubs. There are more than enough articles for them. What do you say? Regards, --Fabio Descalzi, aka Fadesga (talk) 10:55, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
Categories for compositions
editHi. I've started Category:Compositions in B-flat minor. I was wondering if you could begin categories for the others keys and start with categorizing those in the List of symphonies. I think its very useful to categorize like this.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:53, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
December 10 is Ada Lovelace's birthday! Not only was she the world's first computer programmer, but also the world's first female open source developer! Come celebrate with Wikimedia District of Columbia at Busboys & Poets for an informal get together!
The Washington, DC event will be held on Monday, December 10, 2012 at Busboys & Poets on 5th St NW & K St NW near Mt Vernon Square. The area is easily accessible by the Red Line Chinatown stop and the Yellow Line and Green Line Mt Vernon Square stop, as well as by WMATA buses.
Wikimedia DC Holiday Party and Wiki Loves Monuments Exhibition
editPlease join Wikimedia DC and four other local media nonprofits—the National Press Club's Young Members Committee, 100Reporters, IRE and the Fund for Investigative Journalism—in winding down another year with a night of well-mannered frivolity.
The festivities will take place on Friday evening from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM in the Zenger Room on the 13th Floor of the National Press Club, located on 529 14th Street NW, near Metro Center. There will be meat and vegetarian appetizers as well as a cash bar with specially reduced drink prices all night long. In addition, we will be exhibiting the finalists of the Wiki Loves Monuments photo contest at the event.
Hope to see you there! Kirill [talk] 04:44, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
Turkey
editThanks for tagging. Eeks spotted a category error on List of populated places in Batman Province up to Kozluk. Can you fix over the weekend?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 15:36, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Opinion of Jon Stewart? First impression. Obnoxious arrogant tit.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:37, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Colbert is intelligent too though isn't he? Letterman is definitely the biggest asshole I've seen on US television to date. If they make a feature film any time soon of the Rugrats, Chelsea Handler could play Angelica, "spoiled vulgar bitch" is the impression I get of her. Like a stereotypical school girl bully. But Letterman definitely wins the title of most loathsome American chat show presenter! I really hate his tone and expressions. Although you have Jeremy Kyle now, so he'd beat Letterman! Who was the nice brunette, slightly plump, you had in the 90s, on a Springer type show. Can't remember her name but I used to watch her and think she was sweet.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:57, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Ricki Lake yeah. Nice looking and seems nice too.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:02, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Category:Film directors by city
editHi. I've created the container cat Category:Film directors by city for what appear to be directors from city categories created mainly by yourself, recently. Please do add any I've missed. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:08, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Louvet River
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Louvet River requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
Since you created Louvet River, I am letting you know I have marked it for speedy deletion. 72.244.200.13 (talk) 22:40, 15 December 2012 (UTC) P.S. Before I marked it for speedy deletion, I performed various internet searches in an attempt to supply coordinates for the river and online citations that demonstrate its existence. I found no evidence that this river exists, including a search at http://geonames.nga.mil/ggmagaz/ and an attempt to find it through Google Maps. 72.244.200.13 (talk) 22:40, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

ho ho ho
editI do believe that this card explains
a lot of the hitherto misunderstood
and even ignored origins of a variety of Christmas stories.
I am considering writing an article about the theology involved
but am having a difficult time with sources.
Oh well,
have a good one, it does appear
that we have made it through the worst of 2012,
which is a great start to 2013

Ah, well I live in Dixon, where we don't have them, so if I need one then I have to be one. Carptrash (talk) 18:00, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- No thinks - we just used the electoral process to send you a few more. Wish that I could send our governor, whose contribution to the gun control discussion now going on is that we need to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. Is that wise guy talk or not? This is a recent death. Since this is a recent death I want to attempt to collect a free image before uploading a non-free one (though there is not any in web). I have expanded the article, can you check the article to see if this is a stub still! --Tito Dutta (talk) 21:46, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
- Oops! Generally I try not to remove tags myself! But, I used AWB to do the typo fixes, genfixes, add persondata etc and I can see AWB has removed that tag! I don't know AWB's logic behind it! --Tito Dutta (talk) 21:52, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
