Hello. In answer to your queries:

Although I did get the reviews online, it wasn't from a publicly-accessible site - I found them in the InfoTrack database, which is a big searchable database of British newspaper content which you can get access to if you are a member of a British library. However, it should be easy enough to use it to find some more reviews from the time - I shall try and get hold of a few for you, with the appropriate citation details.

As for adaption and adaptation - as far as I am aware "adaption" isn't a real word, although I think it is quite a common spelling mistake, even by native speakers! "Adaptation" should always be used.

Regarding the pictures... I can't say I have any particular preference! I am rubbish on the visual side of things, sorry... Have very little aesthetic sense at all! Angmering (talk) 20:22, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Starship

Well, in my opinion, whomever said that "starship" is too much like Star Trek is simply wrong. "Starship" is a generic term used for any ship that travels amongst the stars. If it were simply a ship that stayed inside a solar system (aka, not lightspeed-capable: the F-301/302 and Death Gliders), then "spaceship" is appropriate. But for a general article containing multiple ships, the majority of which are lightspeed-capable, "starship" is by far the most appropriate term ( are the only which aren't hyperspace-capable). Star Trek does not dictate the naming of all other sci-fi terms, and I firmly believe that "starship" should be used over "spaceship" or (ack) "starcraft". — Huntster (t • @ • c) 23:10, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Article mergers

Hey Sgeureka, nice job on the merges, as I've mentioned before. However, I notice that two critical things were not performed. One, make sure that for any images that you retain from the merged article, you update the fair-use rationales so that they link to the current page...else the bots that roam will mark them for deletion as missing a valid rationale. Second, when you merge multiple pages into one, leaving the original talk pages behind, make sure you link to those talk pages on the new page's talk, as I've done at Talk:Ancient starships in Stargate. I'll keep the talk page notifications in mind (in fact, I am thinking of adding {{merged}} to all the SG lists, which may solve this "problem" as well). About the images, as far as I know, image bots do recognize redirects, and I always fix double-redirects when I merge articles, so everything should be fine. – sgeureka ^t•c 08:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Zachary Jaydon

There seems to be confusion as to the relation between Jaydon D. Paull & Zachary Jaydon. They are one in the same. A large percentage of performers/artists don't go by their legal name. Any notability no matter which of the two names they are credited under are still assertions of nobility under either or both. Many people are eliminating anything that can be user uploaded or changed. I agree with the principle of this in general, however, videos, magazine scans and the such are irrefutable proof of events or facts no matter where they came from. If there is a video of Mr. Jaydon playing with a National Rock Band, you can't say that because it was put up by a "user" that the fact doesn't remain.

While every sentence of this Wiki Article isn't strongly sourced, it doesn't mean he doesn't meat notability requirements for an article. I have scanned and uploaded quite a few of my sources at: http://zacharyjaydonwiki.blogspot.com/

Criteria for composers and lyricists

For composers, songwriters, librettists or lyricists:

  1. Has credit for writing or co-writing either lyrics or music for a notable composition.

Jaydon has written material on several Multi-Platinum records, including *NSYNC, Craig David, Ryan Cabrera and others. These WERE songs that were included on these albums. They weren't scrapped, or obscure B-Sides. These were songs included on official releases by MAJOR artists. He obviously has notable talent if these artists are choosing to work with him. This is obviously an arguable issue, but given the success of the albums his work has been featured on, it seems at the VERY least, notable. These credits are easily verifiable here:

The 3 above sources are all from www.ASCAP.com which is one of the most trusted sources used on Wiki for Songwriter Credit Verification.

([4]) also shows from a VERY large, Fortune 500 companies website with information on Close To Home and confirming Mr. Jaydon's Songwriting Credits. This website would be considered reliable on any front, and also independent of the subject himself.

I had a look through the article yesterday and agree with Angmering--it is excellent. There are no outstanding Br Eng concerns in the article, however, you might want to check some of the wikilinked names as many are repeated throughout the article. Additionally "producer Sue Birtwistle" and "director Simon Langton" appears a heck of a lot--readers would be expected to remember who they are! Pride & Prejudice (2005 film) lead

I know exactly what you mean about the "choppy" quality. I've found it everywhere on WP and I really don't know how to fight it. How do you make 5 unrelated facts sound like they're related? Anyway, I'd be happy to take a look at the lead and see how it reads to me. I'm a little cramped today, but tomorrow's no problem. (That's my east-coast US tomorrow).

BTW, did I see something just above about an 1100-word plot? Whoa! I hope that's an exaggeration. The MoS says 400–700; and definitely not above 900 unless you've got a really good reason. Just took a good look at the lead section (the TV serial, not the above-named film). I think it's brilliant. By far the best I've read here so far. Only two things I would even think of changing:

I would prefer that the BBC "air" the episodes rather than "screen" them.

More importantly, the first sentence of the 2nd paragraph doesn't seem to work all that well. If you remove extraneous words you have: "tells the story of daughters when a man and his friend move into the neighborhood". Would it be better if it told the "story of daughters and what happens when"?

Jane Austen

Please don't be discouraged by the "oppose" I lodged over at the Pride and Prejudice FAC. I thought the article was quite good - just incomplete. I feel sure that you will be able to add those sections without a problem. I was also wondering if you would be interested in working on the Jane Austen in popular culture article? Simmaren and I have been working slowly on the Jane Austen article, a Reception history of Jane Austen article, and we have several other articles in draft form, for example, one on the styles and themes of Austen's novels. All of our notes are online as well. We have nothing on the popular culture front, however, and could really use the help. You have obviously started digging into this research and we would appreciate any assistance you could offer. Several FACs have taught me to take "opposes" as constructive criticism and not as discouragement. I still have tons of unused notes in my userspace (and the Making-of book) for themes and cinematic style, which I simply didn't include because I needed to decide on a cut-off point somewhere. Shouldn't take me longer than three days to come up with something acceptable.

I haven't really decided on my next GA/FA-worthy project yet, but I am not familiar with Austen (beyond P&P and some of its film/TV adaptations) or with literary criticism in the first place. I may be of some help as far as Pride and Prejudice (1995 TV serial), Pride & Prejudice (2005 film) and Bridget Jones goes, but then I am becoming useless quickly. Sorry. WP:DISCUSSCRUFT

I wrote a new essay with the shortcut WP:DISCUSSCRUFT. This is an essay that is supposed to explain the word "cruft" in neutral terms and promote intelligent discussion about the cruft problem on wikipedia. Carl Davis

Forgive my indulgence in putting that claim in the P and P article. Don't you agree that it's fantastic music? I wonder whether he might have a line in the infobox (do other TV series ever have that in their infobox, I wonder)?

I guess I though you might have access to the book listed in the refs. The article on him at WP, I'm embarrassed to say, I inserted a similar claim in. To make amends, I've written to his office (Threefoldmusic) via his website—

I must admit in shame that I have never heard of Carl Davis before watching P&P, although I am a big fan of instrumental music in general (classical music, movie scores, but mainly scores and electronica like from Vangelis and Air). My search for your claim is coming up empty; nothing usable on google books for "carl davis" pride prejudice, and I stopped looking after the first 300 GHits (I only found [6] [7] and [8], which at best received some comments about P&P, but nothing to support your claim). I doubt my library has anything on him. Couple concerns

The title of Chi-Chi is alright. Tōya should be moved to Toya since most entries are spelled "Toya" and because hardly anyone in the Western world can produce the letter "ō" on his keyboard anyway. Last point, I think a completely different article gives the best information:

• SETA (Search for Extraterrestrial Artifacts), a project in Xenoarchaeology

HP characters and Notability

Hey there!! I want to invite you to this discussion regarding the articles of Neville Longbottom (talk) and Luna Lovegood (talk), whose characters are important within the series, but have failed to meet the criteria for Notability: popular culture references, reliable secondary sources (not including interviews with portrayers or book reviews), and impact on the real world. If you take a look at Harry Potter or Severus Snape's article, you might get an idea of whtat I'm talking about. Also, some other important and popular characters in the series like Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupin or Cedric Diggory have been merged. Re: Grammar

Hey there. The first one is "SG-1 encounters someone", because in this instance, SG-1 is treated as a single entity. The second one is "the SG-1 team encounters someone", for the same reason. If the wording was "the team members of SG-1...", then it would be the singular 'encounter', because the people on the team are being referred to individually, or at least, it can be thought of that way (actual grammar rules elude me at the moment). Change your mind

Can you please change your mind on merging Threads (SG-1 episode). This episode is one of the most important episode of the series and I saw what happened to most of the other SG-1 episode articles, merging didn't make it better, it made it worse, so please change your mind on Threads. Series premiere (remake) (talk) 13:17, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

I haven't merged "Threads", and I have no intention to do so either (for the reasons you just mentioned). But the article still lacks established notability (that's why it is tagged as such), so someone else may propose a merger at any time. I saw the episode mentioned in a few gateworld interviews [9], and I expect some genre magazines like TV Zone [10] and some books [11] to have covered/reviewed this episode. Plus, two actors received award recognition for this ep. It's a week claim of notability to keep this article around for a while longer, but I don't know if this article can survive the scrutiny of WP:NOT#PLOT enforcers forever. – sgeureka ^t•c 14:21, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

You have noticed the "SG Wiki" link next to each episode title, right? Because that's where all the old articles were transwikied. Either way, you can save the Redemption article easily by adding sufficient production info from the audio commentary (Martin Wood is good with that). Have a look at Window of Opportunity (Stargate SG-1) and Zero Hour (Stargate SG-1) for episode articles that rely on info from audio commentaries and are pretty much deletion-proof now. – sgeureka ^t•c 14:21, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements. As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Stargate allusions

Hi, I see you deleted several allusions and references that Stargate SG-1 used (too old, too much space taken). I think it's too bad just to suppress this like that, wouldn't it better to create a page dedicated to those ? Diegowar (talk) 15:04, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I removed them (as noted in the edit summary) as OR (WP:Original research). I've seen at least two television articles that listed allusions and references (I think one of them was for Lost) deleted, so I'd say creating a new page for allusions is not such a good idea. However, I don't know whether WP:Notability was the problem leading to deletion, or the lack of WP:Reliable sources and thus original research again. I know that the producers have admitted in the audio commentaries and other DVD features (do you remember which?) that there are allusions to (at least) Star Wars, The Simpsons, and The Wizard of Oz, so if we can source these claims in the article first, that would be a big step forward. – sgeureka ^t•c 16:36, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, for The Wizard of Oz and The Simpsons, I think both of these titles are literally said in Stargate (can't remember exactly where though). For Star Wars, same thing, but I do remember the episode : it's in "Ascension" (season five), when Jack and Teal'c went to Carter's to eat a pizza and watch Star Wars... Anyway, thanks for explaining me what OR was (I didn't know). Vincent is obviously a {{surname}} page. I am not aware of any wikirule for how to deal with such a situation, but I'd simply swap the two pages, moving Vincent to Vincent (surname), and Vincent (disambiguation) to Vincent. Congratulations on your hard work in getting Pride and Prejudice promoted to FA. Now, dare I drive you mad by informing you that the shirt scene influenced a scene in a major new TV series? I daren't add it myself in case I ruin the article:

"At script stage we had discussed if we dared nod to the famous Colin Firth scene of Darcy in the lake invented by Andrew Davies. Courageously Guy went for it. In our version Amanda (Jemima Rooper), our modern-day heroine, asks Darcy if he will recreate this iconic moment, and he obliges. But how to do it?

The first opportunity to schedule the scene was in late October and it was freezing. If Elliot Cowan, our superb Mr Darcy, caught a cold, how would we cope for the rest of the shoot?

The crew assembled, the water was tested and the bottom of the lake checked for anything unpleasant. Elliot was dressed in a wet suit from the waist down, with a long white shirt spritzed with water on his top half, to give the full wet Colin Firth look. The stuntmen were ready, and costume were standing by with foil blankets and a hot shower.

We had a few takes from different angles but only one go at total immersion. The trouble with period shooting is that all the cast are in expensive wigs, and we could only afford one each. Elliot could only submerge once; the sun came out and a little mist ran across the top of the water. Sometimes the gods smile on location shooting."

I've known these plans of him for about a week, and it's within his rights. I first learned of your efforts when coming across List of Stargate SG-1 episodes - a featured list. Although I don't have the energy to do a series with as many episodes as SG-1, I've tried to emulate your work on Talk:List of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles episodes by advocating mergers.

The thought to award the barnstar occurred to me when I came across your work on Talk:Technology in Stargate. I already thought you were outdoing yourself with the episode list, but to learn that you're also doing it for all the technology lists is truly amazing. Maybe modesty is out of place here, but I didn't turn the SG-1 LoE into a Featured List - I just wanted it to keep that status. The merger was merely my attempt to apply wikipedia policies and guidelines to fiction articles (have you seen User:Bignole's kick-ass Smallville articles?) and not be a hippocrit for/about my own favorite fiction. Thanks go to User:Yzx for performing the final tech mergers because fictional technology is not really my area of interest. I don't think there will be a problem with having both. Title cards are pretty much "freebies" when it comes to NFCC. I've never been a fan of having DVD covers in the infobox of TV series articles--especially covers like the LIA one that have cherry-picked comments from newspaper critics on them. Still, it's up to you, since you're the one working to improve the article (I only watched the first episode--I couldn't stomach another hour of such watered-down ITV dross). Polar bears and German IPA

Hi, Sgeureka, I hope I'm not bugging you, but I have a favor to ask. I remembered that you were very helpful in German spelling/phrasing at Knut (polar bear) when it was at FAC, and now I have a similar issue: Flocke is now at FAC, and Giggy rightfully asked for some help in how to pronounce the bear's name. I added an IPA note in the lead, but I'm not exactly sure it's correct; the pronunciation examples are German words, so I had to guess. Would you mind taking a quick look to see if the characters are correct? Or am I just completely wrong? I've mainly heard it pronounced "flock-uh" (one keeper calls her "flock-ee", but he was a little goofy; perhaps that was just German baby-talk?), so that's what I was trying to write in IPA. My rule of thumb is two, preferably three paragraphs of non-trivial real-world information, and the episode article is mostly fine (so, yes, "The Shrine" seems fine). You may be able to get more real-world information from gateworld and the Atlantis script-coordinator's blog. If I wasn't already busy with a lot (too many) other wikipedia projects and also real-life, I'd promise to help get the article to GA, but I really need to learn to stop biting off more than I can chew. :-) – sgeureka ^t•c 16:54, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Sgeureka, remamber your VPT question about bolding large positive additions? In a great case of whine and ye shall receive, it is now integrated into the MediaWiki software, apparently by User:Happy-melon (and FunPika and ^demon) [12][13].
