Page deletion

edit

Hi, I noticed that your page on Rise of Hip Hop was up for deletion and while investigating the page I noticed that it was largely taken from other Wikipedia articles, to the point where the majority of content was either directly taken word for word or only slightly paraphrased. There looks to be at least one portion that was taken from an outside website, which would make it a copyright violation and potential plagiarism. When editing and creating articles you must attribute the content you took from other Wikipedia articles properly, which means that when you add the content you need to comment on what you're adding in the edit summary. Not doing this can be seen as plagiarism and a form of copyright violation as well, even though Wikipedia's content lies in the creative commons. The page also wasn't very clear and didn't really expand on the pre-existing articles on hip hop and hip hop music. It's extremely unlikely that this will survive deletion in its current state. It does look like you did a form of attribution to the other pages on your sandbox article by putting it in footnotes but since you just cut and pasted the content it did not make any note of this.

Please be more careful when you are editing, since you really need to take more care with your edits. I'm aware that the Wikipedia portion of the class is over, but I am going to tag your professor Sarahczarita so she can be aware of this. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 05:18, 28 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
