Request reason:

As a new user, I didn't realize that I was supposed to create a user account. There was an edit button on the page, so I used it. Once I understood that I needed to create an account, I did so and posted a COI notice in my profile as directed. I made a mistake and corrected it immediately. Now I have been banned because I made mistakes as a newbie on my first day. I didn't realize that I had a COI. (I didn't even know what that acronym meant.) Once I asked for assistance and got clarification of the issues, I made the changes. It's rather off-putting to be accused of being "duplicitous" because I made honest mistakes on my first attempt at editing content. The message to me says that ExpressViewPortal is banned. I do not have an account by that name, nor do I know who that is.

Hello Sharonschreiberg. You appear to be saying you are the same person as the anonymous editor who was working on the article recently. That would be 96.244.140.242 (talk · contribs). Is this correct? Did you notice that a whole series of messages were left for you at User talk:96.244.140.242? EdJohnston (talk) 00:36, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
Ed -- Yes, I was the anonymous editor. Once I realized that I shouldn't edit anonymously, I created an account.

I didn't see the messages at first. When I did see them, I went to Help to ask for clarification. The person I messaged with explained the problems. Upon his direction, I created a user profile and noted my COI. I also updated the content based on his clarifications. Sharonschreiberg, please double check the message at the top of your talk page. It is called "Edits with a conflict of interest". Not to belabor the obvious, but did you notice there are five bolded pieces of advice there? I draw your attention to #1, avoid creating.. and #2, propose changes.. That part sounds good. Now you should learn how to participate on talk pages. When you post a new comment it should go at the bottom of the thread. A new comment can be indented from those above it by entering a colon ':'. You should be signing your posts. This is done by adding four tildes '~~~~' at the end of your post, or by hitting the squiggly symbol that may appear above your edit window. Yes that's good except it's not properly indented under the posts above it. Try editing your last comment. Add four colons at the beginning of your line and do a 'Save'. EdJohnston (talk) 01:21, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

OK, I have unblocked your account. You are expected to follow the COI rules from now on. The kinds of things you were trying to add to the Congregation's article were not in the usual Wikipedia style. Until you can figure out the style, you may be disappointed with your progress. Consider looking at other pages for ideas. Type 'Congregation Beth' in the search box and see all the existing pages that pop up on other congregations. For example, Congregation Beth Elohim. If you have a change to propose, you can use the {{request edit}} template at Talk: Beth Shalom Congregation (Columbia, Maryland) and someone will get back to you.
